It all started so well, a fighting win against a much fancied Demons at the Dome. The new gun, Murphy showed us he was the correct choice, the forward line looked dangerous - Waite kicked goals from everywhere, Fev on fire.

I can't remember what happened after that though. 8)

At least it's all over for this year now, no serious long term injuries to any of our guns.

Take a look at the following list, hopefully it will look much different over the next couple of years, starting with a clean out this year:

Carlton's Team 2006:

Jordan Bannister - gone
Adam Bentick - stay
Eddie Betts - stay
Luke Blackwell - stay
Paul Bower - stay
Chris Bryan - gone
Andrew Carrazzo - stay
Callum Chambers - gone
Justin Davies - gone
Adrian Deluca - gone (trade?)
Jake Edwards - who ?
Brendan Fevola - stay
Bradley Fisher - stay
Barnaby French - retired
Adam Hartlett - border line, stay only because we need tall defenders - 2007 Make or break
Ryan Houlihan - trade?
Josh Kennedy - stay
Anthony Koutoufides - should have retired
Matthew Lappin - 1 or 2 years left
Luke Livingston - trade?
Troy Longmuir - gone
Cory McGrath - ??
Dylan McLaren - stay as only "ruckman" (term used loosly)
Marc Murphy - gun
Setanta O'hAilpin - stay
Ian Prendergast - gone
Anthony Raso - 2007 - Make or break
Jordan Russell - 2007 - Make or break
Jason Saddington - gone
Heath Scotland - stay
Kade Simpson - stay
Trent Sporn - trade
Nick Stevens - stay
David Teague - gone
Bret Thornton - stay
Jarrad Waite - stay - send him to CHB
Andrew Walker - stay
Lance Whitnall - stay
Simon Wiggins - ???

Rookies
Daniel Batson - who ?
Craig Flint - from all reports goes alright, stay rookie
Ryan Jackson - promote
Aisake O'hAilpin - stay rookie
Jesse D. Smith - promote

That means 9 should definatley not get another contract. Couple of trade bait. Let's hope we get some good late draft picks like the swans manage to get. Badly need ruckman, defender, midfielder.

Goal for the players over summer - bulk up and get some penetration and accuracy into their kicking. Also learn to run towards our goal as a first instinct rather than going backwards (Houla does this everytime he gets the ball, he isn't the loan ranger there though).

Not going to comment on the off-field stuff. Big shake up needed there - coaching, board, general football operations (leaving training/runners gear in Melbourne  . We are a rable.

Hopefully young Bryce Gibbs and Marc Murphy get along well and decide to take a stand and form the partnership that can take us to the flag.

that's my 2cents worth.

Agree with most of your player summaries however contracts come in to play when analysing the list. For example Saddington, Mclaren, Teague and DeUseless are all contracted.

I suppose we will need to wait till the Ants finish their season before the fun begins.

Unlike last year our club needs to make statements about the playing list, trades, drafts, coaches etc.

It doesn't work that way,the club could delist up to 15 players and trade a few but it's likely only 7. The club will use 1,17,19,35 and possibly the last pick 51,i cant see them going after pick 66 and promoting 1 or 2 guys Ryan Jackson and Craig Flint and 1 pick in the Pr Season Draft, while 1 player may be traded or 2.

Very unlikely Jesse Smith gets promoted after Ryan Jackson 1st game today.

With French retiring only 6 probably have to be delisted, this will probably save guys like Mcgrath, Bannister, Teague and Deluca even though they last 2 still have contracts, i think it is quite obvious they are not up to it.

my 6 delistings

Livinston
Prendergast
Chambers
Sporn (trade if possible, but shit lets be honest, who would want him)
Davies
Longmuir

That's only 7 players. With French retiring, the club will have to promote Aisake, just in case he's needed in the senior team (eg a ruckamn is injured and we have no long term injuries) and I reckon Smith will get promoted. We'll definately use the first pick in the PSD, so that leaves only 4 picks in the national draft (1, 17, 19, 35). Pick 51 is the first of the fourth round, essentially a free late third rounder for use, so we'll use it.

That means we'll delist at least 8 players this season. I'd prefer 9 (see my list in the delistings thread), but the club has been pretty conservative and might only delist 8. I reckon 8 has to be the absolute minimum for this season though, any less and the club is just shooting itself in the foot - okay, this isn't outside the realms of possibility at the moment :)

Eight gives the club just enough flexibility for any situation without taking trades into account.

ok well i will add either Bryan, Bannister, or Mcgrath, i would probably have Teague, Sadinton and Deluca delisted before those 3 but they are still under contract so i dunno

we are morons if we don't use pick 66. Melbourne picked up clint batram or matthew bate (can't remember whico ne) late in last year's draft). better than keeping teague, bannister or sporn for another lost year

Batram was the late pick
