Blues need a priority draft pick 27 August 2006 Herald-Sun Comment by Jon Ralph http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/ ... 42,00.html "SHOULD Brendan Fevola threaten to tear Collingwood apart today, Denis Pagan would be advised to repatriate him to the back line to continue his all-round education." "The Blues have 14 premiership points from 3.5 wins this year, which gives them 25 victories from 108 games. Another win would take them over the new priority pick threshold of 16 points, and strip much of the benefit from what shapes as their third wooden spoon in five years. Carlton is desperate for that priority pick, even if, under new rules, it has become pick 17, rather than the first selection of the draft" Pretty brually honest article. |

I don't know... we'll probably give the extra pick to the Eagles for Gardiner anyway so I hope we win. |

What are the chances that we can get our priority pick moved to the first round? I know the draw from last yr put us over the edge with the "rules" that the AFL have put in place, but where carlton are at the moment, i dont think anyone can really argue that carlton do not need this kind of help. The real reason that the priority pick was put in place was to help struggling clubs to get back to the pack. Carlton at the moment is the epitome of a struggling club and desperately need the aid that the 1st round picks would give. That and i want both Gibbs and Hansen. =o) |

Gotta love some of Ralph's ideas. "Every other club would trade for Aker with pick 17. But he doesn't want to come to Carlton." Speaks for itself really. |

However, and I know I'm going to have the masses descending on me about this, I am actually of a different view regarding Demetriou. I think he has now got to the stage where he can see that the competition is suffering because of where Carlton is, and he would like to see Carlton in shape off the field, and a finals participant on it. Whatever his thoughts were back on Black Friday, I am sure he now wants to help Carlton rather than pusnish it. Cue the rest of you to jump down my throat. ![]() |

Carlton having such a poor run is beginning to hurt his bottom line. Doesn't give a sh1t about the fans. |

You have got it pretty right their is no humanitarian or magnanimous motives behind "The Spew's" moves to "assist" Carlton - its all about the precious Key Performance Indicators that his salary bonus is measured against - he knows that a successful Carlton means better KPIs and this is where his next salary increase will come from. ![]() But I would swap the dollars any day of the week for what we rightly deserve and that is Picks 1 & 3 in the coming National Draft. ![]() |
