Got to have lunch at the Club today with a few Blue Suits members. Also in attendance - Michael Malouf (CEO), Lorraine Diggins and Marcus Rose (both Board Members).

A few points:
1. The upgrading of the ground, when complete, will be the equal, if not superior, to the Lexus Centre (may take 2-3 years).
2. Recruitment policy is youth. All draft selections will be used to select a young player. Will not player trade for anyone over 24 years of age. The only 24+ players considered would be through the PSD. (The name Polak was mentioned with regard to the PSD)
3. No decision yet on our Father/Son selection with 3 eligible (Sheldon, Johnston, Williams), although Sam Sheldon is still young enough to be drafted in 2007. An independant source is reviewing each of the lads, and will report to Wayne Hughes.

Might have already been asked but can we trade a player for a 3rd round pick and then use that pick plus our original 3rd round pick to get both players ?

no. You can only use your original 3rd round pick. If we want to take both players we need to use a 2nd round pick.

That's a bummer.. I know this is off topic and I apologise, but didn't Collingwood or Essendon* traded away there 3rd round pick with a player and got a 3rd back from another club and use that for there F/S ?

I think you have to use the earlier pick.

Brad's referring to claiming them both before the draft.

Sorry, I don't know whether to feel relieved or angry at that news. There's nothing there to make me wildly excited, just what should be standard operating principles for any club.

The upgrading of the ground to a decent level means that we are finally catching up to the rest of the competition.
Only focussing on drafting youth ?? Great !! It has only taken them 15 years to catch on to how to use the draft system to obtain the best results.
Father-son ?? At least we have some choices, but in a supposed super-draft, they wouldn't want to waste that 3rd round pick.

Oh well, better later than never I suppose.

Is that an attempt at humour ?? Might be better to stick with writing cheap barbs & "garthps".

I'm normally a glass-full kind of guy but I'm just so frustrated at our administration's lack of urgency in most areas of operation. We are continually playing catch-up to the rest of the clubs and have been for some time now which is downright embarrassing. What's worse is that this is not something that just happened overnight either !!

I'll take that offer because I broke my brown coloured glasses.

I'd rather take another player ahead of either of the father-sons given this is the "superdraft.

Obviously the club would be considering each of Johnston and Williams in the context of having to sacrifice a 3rd round pick (potentially pick 35 or 36) in a deep, quality draft such as this years. Obviously...

Why does that statement not give me much confidence??? :(

I dont think either boy has given the club nowehere near enough reason to justify utilising a 3rd round pick on either in 2006.

If sheldon or Joshnson/Williams nominate and we deem them good enough to draft .. if we dont use the third rounder on them we can draft them later... or next year.

the key is to draft the best possible players.

And hope one of them can slip through to the 4th, 5th round or even the Rookie draft.

That's if we are interested.
