Thats my biggest concern as i think the list is developing but i dont have faith on the assistant coaching panel with regards to mainly Libba and Trout but think the whole coaching group needs to be reviewed.

Why do i pick on libba and trout... i dont rate there ability on past 3 years to deliver properly skills though not saying they wernt skilled just that it dosnt look like they have passed on this area properly. neither of them shows much in leadership qualities or great comunicators which i think is part of how we access good assistants as alot are looking to step up at some future time to be the senior coach.
Neither Libba or trout to me would ever be senior coach but i look at some assistants like Worsfold and Roos both now senior coaches.. also in the current crop i look at Guy Mckenna / Jon longmire / chris bond ect
And of course looking into the future to future candidates like Voss.

Well the general feeling from all in why the blues continually loose would be our skill level, awareness, decision making and how we use the ball. If we analyse the games this year i would find most people would agree in general play the following * We appear to get the ball okay statisically we stack up okay and thats half the battel for improvement * In most games i have been happy with our endevour and desire to compete. * Confidence for a team struggling and possibly having been battered by multiple defeats the team still seems to enter games positively * Improvement in players and kids in the team. I am certain we have all been happy with the improvements of Fev in his attutude and also players like betts, simmo and Bentick. Also in the younger brigade to see the likes of Murphy / Russell / JK / Blackers / Santanta would have most smiling. * General game plan of allowing players to run on and take chances not always but we have seen this occur in many games. All these things provide some great positives and would in theory work well and even should have given us more wins than 2.5 games which brings me back to the common problem and what we really need to address and thats is awareness, decision making and how we use the ball. Looking into it further for all the positive or negative Pagan people if we say that Pagans coaching in regards to game play is okay but is let down badly by the execution then where we can mainly blame Denis or the coaching panel is leveled at the skills, decision making ect. i have raised this point before that i strongly believe that regardless of what our assistant coaching panel are considered be good or bad i have real issues in this area If the Denis game plan cannot be implemented due to skills and poor decision making this is the most important area that we have to address as i do believe a lot of our players are better than what we see call me optimistic if you want lol. I really hope by year end we undertake a complete review of the coaching panel if Pagan is not going to be dislodged or mainly works on how we play the game and the moves then i would much rather review the assistant panel for 2 major reasons I am not really confident in the likes of Libba or Trout anymore and have wanted to see these go end of last year. Mitch i have been happy with the developement of the kids. i would really like to see us implement changes on the assistant coaching panel with a strong look towards asssistand coaches who are strong skills coaches and also someone who i would be confident to take over if something major happens to Dennis similar ot sheedy out of action for a game or if he moved on. Would be great if we had a skills coach like Diesel fulltime or of the calibre of him to teach the young team correct disposal and awareness All i know is that to me this is one area i really want the club to address and get the Assistants who are both able to drill our players in all the fundamentals in skills and awareness and also displays good leadership skills to pass on If we can address this and drill into our squad for 2007 i have much more confidence in having a much more positive 2007 season

Some very good points made there, Wolfe, and especially agree with your last point on getting some ex-skillful players in to assist with technique, decision making, etc. There was talk some time ago that Sticks was trying to lure Andrew Jarman over from SA as specialist coach for the midfield. Whilst he acted like a clown off the field (and sometimes on the field), he is one that had exquisite skills, technique and decision making. Our young midfielders could learn alot from someone like him.

Good points there, Wolfe. Aside from any perceived shortcomings Pagan has as a head coach, our band of assistant coaches, and skills trainers are letting our side and Club down by an inability to instill top level skills into our players. Disappointing isn't the right word.....

Interesting thread Wolfe. This is a real Nature Vs Nurture argument. Can somebody be taught decision making or is it a gift? Can Livo/Sporn etc. be made better or is what we're seeing as good as they can get? Can you make a silk purse out of a sow's ear? Walker, Waite and Wiggins have kicks that are decidedly shaky. Murphy and Simpson are beautiful kicks. Did the coaches decide this or is it a natural talent?

natural talent of course is the best option when available but most AFL players can learn and improve this is a proven fact not all the players in the Adelaide or Westcoast list are natural players but all have been drilled with skills and encouraged to improve. I am thinking alot is to do with the skills coaches in those teams and see that as something the Blues seriously need to adopt ASAP. As i stated before we get the ball okay we have no problems in our endevour and how we apply ourselves but when we have the ball we stuff it all up with skill errors and make silly decisions and seem to panic even when we are not under pressure. All these can areas can be drastically improved on.
