I wouldnt be over stating the obvious by saying we kick it to Fev too much and we really have only one plan and that is to kick it to Fev. Having a champion FF doesnt always equate to winning flags either..Ablett and Lockett were about the best going around but couldnt get their teams over the line for a flag... Good forward lines have plenty of options and look for them....Adelaide have no star FF but a even group of marking forwards who are also good ground players and a midfield who dont play favourites but look for the best option....I'd like to see Denis say dont kick it to Fev so much but lets look for Fisher/Waite/ maybe Edwards when he plays/Kennedy...we wont be any good IMHO until we have Fev kicking less goals and the other players kicking more.... |

Ablett still got his team to grand finals. It's not really about how many tall targets you have to hit, it's also about what happens when the ball hits the deck, and whether your midfielders and flankers can get the opportunity to run into the 50 and then have the skill to slot one on the run when there's no clear leads or options. It's these players bobbing up for a goal or two a game that help you kick winning scores. So in that case there's no real issue in opening the forward line up to Fev a bit more, and I think the biggest problem now with Fisher and Waite back is how they work with each other as there's only so many genuine leads you can make from the square. This is where a player like Jetta, Collard or Proud (along with Murphy, Simpson, Blackwell and so forth) would be fantastic because they'll size up the options and if it's not worth it they'll work it around by hand to open up some space to run in and have a shot. Having said all that there are a few times where there has been a bit of blunder in sizing up leads and the surer option would be to ignore Fevola, but of late he has been almost irrepressible despite the number of defenders tracking him. |

there was far too much preference to pass to fev and there always is, when players get the ball they always look for fev rather than looking for the best option. a great stat that proves we do this and that it is costing us is that fev has the most goals in the league but carlton as a team have the least including fev's goals. i dont know if it has anything to do with us trying to give him every chance he's got of getting the coleman or anything, but the team has to come first. |

Nailed it in one, 24! There were at least a couple of times yesterday when the open option was ignored in favour of Fev, which cost us. It's happened all year. We're just lucky Fev has marked most of what's come his way (and been decent), and is fit, and kicking goals. We're still lacking a crumbing option or 2.... |

Fev had nowhere to lead at times yesterday. Forward line was way too congested. Has been all year! I know Pagen likes to flood, but don't flood our own foward line for god sake. I would have liked to have seen Waite be moved into the midfield yesterday instead of being left up forward for so long. |

Waite should be used as wheels running towards the 50 not being part of it. He should be another midfield option who goes forward and back.. kind of like embley. |

Hence we should consider trading Fev if we can get a VERY good deal (no to just a 'good' deal). As it stands we are unable to utilise the forwards we have efficiently. Unless the coach is able to change the team structure to improve this, we would be negligent to not consider trading Fev. If our great coach got off his ass and restructured our forward play so we were less Fev centric then I'd be a lot less inclined to entertain the thought of trading Fev. But given that the issue hasnt been addressed for close to 4 years, I dont hold out much faith in it happening. |
