Incredibly, Bret Thornton wasn't listed in the best players in the 'Sunday Age' today. In my humble opinion, Thornton was B.O.G. Another story from Bizarro world. |

In my humble opinion, Thornton was B.O.G. Another story from Bizarro world. He was BOG for me as well, incredible game he had. After a few games this year i was starting to think maybe Thornton hasn't got what it takes, but if he continues like yesterday he can be all australian. Not many full backs take 5 bounces down the wing. |

Surprised they didn't put in Lance despite the fact that he had a shocker. But then what do you expect when most of the Age journalists barrack for Essendon*? |

Thornton has been getting overlooked for credit and kudos his entire career so far. He was magnificent yesterday and I agree, best game I have seen him play. |

I love T-bird, when on song his ability to remain composed and surefooted in defence is very good. He's our Presti, nobody else rates him except the true believers. |

In the end I think Thornton was more effective than Lucas - a guy who struggled for possessions after half time and rarely had one that wasn't under pressure. Thornton basically took on 2 player with big names and towelled them up - and they didn't even chase him out. His run from defence was the difference between losing and what happened. I think Peverill was probably the BOG - he killed us in the middle of the ground. Around the ground it was a different issue, but we were well beaten for most of the game in clearances. It was when we FINALLY got on top around the pack that we looked dangerous (last half of the 3rd quarter and the last half of the 4th). |

Thought TBird BOG for us. But he was Lucky Lucas missed a few - kicked 1 goal 3 behinds after TBird was moved on him. If he kicked another 3 to bag 9(including the touched one that was given a goal in the 1st) we may not have been so happy with TBird. His attacking run of half back is where he showed up Lucas, gave us a lot of drive and put him under a lot of pressure as he is qucik enough to shadow him. |

He had opponents but juts didn't mark them!! The HUN has no idea. Enough of the softly softly attitude towards Stevens ....... had a shocking game!!! |

Stevens had 27 possessions... but had 7 clangers. So when he gets the ball, our "top line midfielder" has a little more than 1 in 4 chance of butchering it. Jarusa.... care to compare that to some of the opositions top midfielders? |

Stevens set up at least 2 shots on goal with good passes to leading forward. Agree tho not his best game for the blues...is he injured at the moment? |

Well The Age may have done a backflip as Thornton received votes in todays paper. Another interesting note was there injuries column which showed a striking resemblance to those received last week (ie. it was exactly the same), compounded by the fact that both Jarrad Waite and Ben Hart were listed as possibles to return next week despite both playing this week. |

Martin Boulton wrote the article on the Sunday which appeared next to the best players list so I assume he did the best players (why would The Age send along a second journo just to do the votes) and Martin Boulton was the vote giver on the Monday.

I think the best players and initial reports are done by AAP which supply most papers & their web sites, ninemsn etc. An inhouse journo does the report for the next day's paper and votes. |
