First of all, it's quite clear that Marc Murphy is most definitely leadership material and will most likely captain the club one day. That much is true.

But, out of the rest of our younger kids, who could also be a captain or leader of the club?

Someone like Kade would have to be up there given he has recently been put in to the leadership group. I see him as becoming a vice captain of the club somewhere down the track.

i'd say JK has leadership stamped all over him and though he probably wont captain this club (unless in the absence of murph) he could be a great vice-captain and leader on the field, someone opposition teams fear and has an awe and a presence about him. and like you said i think simmo has got it too and hopefully some fo the players we pick up in this year's draft have it too because all premiership teams have heaps of leaders in their side.

Agree PJ.

Murphy - future captain - like father, like son.
Simpson - VC, as recognised by his peers into the leadership group this year.
Hartlett - haven't seen much of him in terms of air time, but loves the physical side of things by all reports in VFL, and I just reckon he may have a leadership role, so long as he stays injury free.
Fisher - he's well respected by his peers and his committment against adversity with the injuries he's had is a good role model for others.
Waite - see Hartlett, minus the air time bit.

You need to ad Walker into the mix. He wants to be a leader and that must count for something. He put himself up for the leadership group at the start of he's first or second year

Quite possibly, but, I believe, you cannot have a team with too many designated leaders. The team dynamic would be outta kilter. However, you do want a team that displays leadership behaviours, individually, without being designated leaders, persay.

yeah i agree with that but i think JK would make a better leader than fisher (not that fisher ahs done anything worng) and possibly more than hartlett, waite and simpson but its still too early we cant just look at a player and say he'll be a better leader than another player, i just think kennedy is the type of player who could physically and mentally let his presence be felt same with hartlett.

Maybe the case - it's just my opinion and observations thus far, and I could be wrong. The thread was about who we thought are leadership material.

i think we both agree that all the players mentioned above are a chance.

Good sides have leadership density - you don't have to be the captain to be a leader. I remember Parkin talking at a coaching seminar where he talked about the 95 flag and how he had leaders in the different lines of the side i.e back half (read Peter Dean) midfield (Williams, Bradley, Harry), Forwards (Sticks). Our new crops of young players will develop that leadership density over time.
Go Blues!

I agree, but it appears Pagan doesn't have much confidence in Walker or he'd release him to a wing and put a Bannister or Russell on the HBF.

Oh come on. He gave him the job on the (or at least one of the) most dangerous Bulldogs players on the weekend. And left him on him for the entire game. That isn't a sign of no confidence whichever way you want to look at it.

Murphy=captain
Kennedy=could be a captain one day but more than likely will be VC
Fisher=he has to stop getting injured.
Walker=maybe, fearless and smart are good attributes

Possibly because he has been playing for what seems like forever in a seriously bad team, but T-Bird gets my vote for leadership material.

He puts Walker down back because we don't have anyone else who can do the job. Pagan doesn't have confidence in his kicking and playing him closer to goal where a turnover and mistake costs you a goal is a strange decision. :?

How many other developing players have you seen put under such pressure so early in their careers?

Russell is a better kick ATM and he should be played in defence along with Bannister who is a better option than Teague.

I'd have issues with the way that he tends to pay out fellow players - a bit more control of his emotions would raise his leadership prospects I'd think

4thChicken playing in the worst defense in AFL HISTORY for the better part of 4 years, it's a wonder T-Bird hasn't murdered anyone.
