With our current glut of tall forward options (Fevola, Whitnall, Morrell, Waite, Setanta) and lack of tall defenders should we really start turning this kid into a solid key defender? From memory he's done it once in the past and did a pretty decent job of it. Can you imagine him running across CHB taking pack marks, giving us another tall defensive option who can run forward and kick goals? I think it's something to consider in the near future.

umm... no - I'd have him as a key forward anyday (ahead of decluca). Also dont really see morell as a long term option as key forward (too similar to whitnall). Dont imagine waite will be a permanent forward either.

A key position forward that can take pack marks will win you more games than a backman

Interesting thought... i reckon Rivers might have won a few games for Melbourne with some pack marks in defence. Having said that i dont think we need a turnover machine at CHB - rather have the fish kick 2.2 each week than give the ball up to he oppostion

Think less of it as 2:2 but more a 40-50 goal forward to complement Fev and whitnall - 50 goals/season isnt out of fishers reach given that he averages 1+/game atm on less than 50% match time.

Just on Fisher's kicking - I think it was revealed by someone (can't remember who) that Fish was a beautiful kick until he had a minor knee injury. Since then his kicking has been suspect. As a result of the knee reco for the ACL, the problem that has been causing his poor kicking has now been rectified. :?

If the above made no sense at all, the point is that we can expect a much more accurate Fish when he returns... :?

Bloody cookies... they ruin everything....

Yep, I think so. Beautiful hands...... a bit of a Jared Rivers maybe.

I reckon he's make an awesome CHB/HBF/BP. Definitely important for his development, and Waitey's too, to learn some versatility.

I see in the 'Age Footy Guide' they have him listed as 192cm and 82kg now. He needs another 10 kg then look out. A kid who moves as well as he does will be a handfull forward or back.

Its always good to have players that can play more than one position. Id prefer him as a forward but if he is haveing an off day it might be good to rotate him through the backline.

If what strangeblue said is correct then I think he could kick 40-50 goals a season. If Betts can chip in with 40 and Whitnall and Fevola can kick 120 between them then finals here we come! 8)

How good is this:= :?: :!:

Fisher - Whitnall - DeLuca
Betts - Fevola - Koutoufides/Lappin/Houlihan/Camporeale

BEST.MARK.AT.THE.CLUB.BY.FAR.

His pack marks are unbelieveable.
He really has no right to take those 6/7/8 pack marks for a guy of his size, when he really should be getting crushed by the mature aged bodies around him.

Bodes well for us in the future.

Love this kid! Can't wait till he comes back.

Was thinking the same thing the other day. With the form of Fevola, Whitnall, Betts ect, where would he fit in? Never thought of playing him down back but now that i've heard it, yeah i like the idea. Stuff him full of food and whack him in the gym to build him up and he could be a great in that posistion.

Very good idea.

Too light to play as a key defender.

Get him up forward for some contested marks

Anyone looked at Scott Thornton (Freo) lately? Still looks pretty spindly.

He only needs another 10kgs to play on Anthony Rocca. No one's putting him on a gorilla. But certainly he could try and match someone like Scott Welsh, Tim Notting, Kent Kingsley etc etc.

Sometimes you just have to chuck them in and cross your fingers.

Cammo seems to think he is T-Bird's brother.
I'm not too sure if it is or not.

Can anyone confirm?

don't think so.

Scott Thornton is Victorian, but from a different junior club as Bret. I suppose its possible though.

Fisher and Whitnall at the Gabba nearly destroyed the Lions in that last quarter i think fish had 10 marks and 4 goals or something like that he could be the missing link

imagine him getting the 4th best defender

I'm not so sure about the extra weight. I mean, maybe the extra bulk could give him the physique to really shine, but I think his current physical attributes, within reason, are something we should try and keep. Sure, he needs a base level of strength to compete at AFL level, but do we really need to turn him into a hulk?

FWIW, I'd like to keep him as a forward, and think he would prove to be the perfect foil to Fevola and Whitnall. Those two guys are always going to attract the best defenders, leaving Fish to work his magic, either uncontested, or sneaking into a pack situation with defenders paying too much attention to Fevvie or Red. His stature allows him to kind of be a bit more unassuming and prone to being underestimated by opponents.

I rate Fish, very highly, and can't wait for his return. He'll help us win a flag one day. ;)

Walls is called "The Count" in his role as a Special Comments Man, always refers to those players who can kick 40/50/60 metres, or the players who kick 5/6/7 goals a game or have played 50/60/70 games or are 24/25/26 years of age etc.
