So how much is Nick Stevens worth?

At the end of 2007(?) he is up for a contract renewal.

Based on what you have seen so far what do you think he is worth per year for his next contract?

a) Who is qualified to answer this question here?

b) What context can you provide to assist in the evaluation of someone's worth?

i've been very dissapointed with his season, and in recent weeks he seems to be getting worse.

for a "senior" player he is making a lot of skill and decision errors.

not setting a good example out on the field at the moment.

i just hope he turns the corner, otherwise i'd be happy to let him go for a top 20 pick to be honest.

Another stupid move by the penguin himself.....He had Stevens tagging Giansiracusa....Steven is not a tagger.....play him in his right position and let him run.....then we will see his worth....Sick and tired of fickle Carlton supporters. I just wonder how many still attend games?

I thought it was a fantastic move! He did very well back there, really setting up play for us. His lower level of overhead marking skills wasnt found out with Gia (as it was with Scotland and Smith, but Smith missed most of those shots) and it allowed our kids to play on the ball. I was very happy with the coaching on the weekend, not so much the team selection as Lappin was clearly struggling.

No-one obviously, unless you negotiate contracts for the club.

Everyone can use their own context, it's a free world.

---------------

We got Stevens at an 'inflated' price to lure him in to the PSD.

At the end of next year the club is either going to have to stick with its 'market value' approach with players or not.

If one assumes Stevens price was inflated then the club should be demanding a lower priced contract from 2008 onwards.

Will Stevens be happy with this? Will he be tempted to leave Carlton the way he left Port? Maybe if the club could trade him this year it might be a way of getting some value out of him? Maybe the club will give him the captaincy to keep him? Who knows what is going to happen, but it is something the club has to decide on fairloy quickly.

Without context and any knowledge I vote for 7 peas in a pod and a 1/5 share of this year's water supply. Context for salaries in a market we all know nothing about is abit murky, even for a fan forum!

At his age we should be demanding a lower contract value regardless of his original contract. Stevens playing 'stocks' have fallen for a variety of reasons, 1) age, 2) skills decline and 3) our decline. Unless he shows the skills are back I'd suggest he's worth more to us than to others.

I was surprised that the FoxFooty guys said yesterday if Eddie Betts tweaked his game a bit and was able to be more consistent that he'd be looking at a $400K p/a contract.

Better question..

Is Nick Stevens an "elite" AFL player?

They also said DeLuca is a season off being a superstar.

And that Stevens was sensational in the first half.

So they're clueless...

that's an awful lot of tweaking...one wonders if Betts has grown afew inches too, after all, the Blues keep kicking to him a good foot above his head....

I think the definition of clanger should be changed to include such kicks.

Absolutely. Especially when Betts is in the corridor surrounded by four opposition blokes twice his height

I'll make sure to add this question to the next Mike & Dan interview:

'so... do the players realise Eddie Betts is the shortest player in the AFL when kicking to him?'

They were making a lot of stuff up as they went along.

I reckon somewhere around the $350,000 mark would be fair?

According to wikipedia the salary cap this year is $6,472,812 with playing lists of 38, not counting rookies and veterans. 38 into the TPP figure is about $170K, one would reckon there's a few players ahead of Eddie on our list in the $350K stakes.

Mind, whenever I think of contracts, TPP and a full playing list I get scared and just stick my head in the ground.

I was meaning Stevens.

One of the things I don't understand about footy - the 38 players on our list get paid the same in total as the 38 on say St Kilda or Geelong's lists, that have many more talented players (delivery is another thing). You'd think a club with a list like Carlton's should be paying below 100%.

Please do.

Frustrates the hell outta me.

He's on $500,000 at the moment and has another year on his contract so he won't be traded. Silky-skilled and never missed target at Port, so there's no probelms with his skills, but like most of our team, can't hit the side of a barn door from point blank range at Carlton. You have to ask why? We're a better side than what we're showing. Alot more to do with real want and focus rather than skills I think. There's only one perosn I want out of this club and he doesn't actually play. That'll help things no end.
