Interested to know what the social club facilities at the MCG were like?

Is there a designated bar for social club members to gather? Where is it?

Is the social club seating area still in the southern stand?

thanks in advance. :)

Apparently zilch.

Myself & T4D asked a guy at the door of one bar where the social club was & he said there wasn't one. We then asked another guy and he gave us directions to what turned out to be a stairwell

We then went back to the first bar & saw Col Kinnear & Thornton nearby, considered asking them ,then just asked the guy at the door of the Carlton rooms...he said there is no soc club for us at the G, just at Telstra Dome. So you just go to the regular bars.

Great.

Maybe someone could take a big cardboard box set it up somewhere and write social club bar on it. We could all gather around and have a yarn.

Fair dinkum, next to no standing room, and now nowhere to gather for likeminded fans. Social butterfly's are being driven from the game. :P :)

We phoned the club during the week and they told us it was the Hayden Bunton room in the bottom of the Southern Stand. It's not exclusively social club though, it's just a bar that anyone in the AFL members/social club members section can go into. And it must have been close to 40 degrees in there Friday night!

And my drink (Skyy premix) cost me $7.90 or some such ridiculous price!

Yeah, we were the same. We practically skulled our drinks and ran outside for fresh air. You'd think they could have put the aircon on

Why do Collingwood have a social club? You do realize that on Sat when it is OUR home game they will still get to use that facility in the Ponsford Stand.

is the mcg gonna have a new slogan?

MCG ... Eddie's people's ground!!!

my understanding of that filth social club is that when we get to use it, next year or whatever, we will have to pay the filth .... is that true?

re friday night ...

it felt like i was just sitting in general admission. i had a geelong supporter to my right, some bummer supporters to the left ... and even a filth supporter in front!! it didn't feel like an intimate gathering of the carlton tribe.

then, as people have mentioned, lining evans' pockets by paying $5.10 for a beer ........... !!

"A Current Affair" did a story on the exhorbitant prices that people pay for stuff at the Football, without even mentioning the conflict of interest issue that Ron Evans has  (as Chairman of the AFL and a Director of Spotless  ).

Another point to mention is that the SANFL run the catering at AAMI Stadium and the prices charged for food and drink are far more reasonable there.

The Catering Companies like Spotless, Delaware etc, are basically licensed to rob the public blind - the excuses their management uses like - we are forced to charge these high prices because we only operate the venues for a limited number of events and food spoils etc. so it cant be stored just dont wash.

In the States (and its ironic that I am using it as an example) stadium venues sell a number of concessions to a number of organizations and private operators in a venue - so their is competition inside the venue therefore the prices are far less exthortionate.

But in Australia for some reason Venues sell the rights to one organization.

As an example how Spotless/Delaware can justify selling a 500ml bottle of Mt Franklin Water for $3.80 when it costs them around 60 cents is beyond me.

Sorry, It's not $5.10 for a beer.

It's $5.10 for half a beer - the @#$%&! stuff is demi-beer, not real beer!
