Do we have any room in the Cap to have a go at getting Jacob Hopper????

His addition would make one hell of a midfield.

And failing Hopper, I still hope we are having some quiet chats with Grundy.

What's this fascination with big bodied mids? We've got Cripps, Kennedy, Cerra and Hewitt and you want to fork out money that we're short of for another (not-much-better-than handy) big bodied mid? We want speed, run and zip (all with great disposal skills).

I am the same. We also have Setterfield & Carroll.

I look at our list and I would like another mature Ruck/Fwd and then I would go to the draft for some new talent especially around speed and ball use.

Is this right?

Gone: Williamson Jones McDonald Newnes Parks

Uncontracted at this stage: Curnow Fogarty Hayes Honey Cuningham Setterfield Marchbank

Possible trade: Dow

Based on delistings so far we have 2 available spots in a list of 42. Akeui Cat B. Strong rumours are we will get Acres & McAsey
So I would think we need a minimum 3 more spots to make

That’s my understanding. The other factor to throw into the mix is that I believe Owies has now met the maximum years for a rookie stint so either he has to be upgraded to the senior list, re-rookied or delisted. In either of the first two scenarios, he loses his status as a category B rookie (i.e. his additional list spot). Means we need to find another list spot if he stays.

I'm guessing Setterfield and Curnow will be delisted and rookied.

Fogarty and Hayes spots precarious.

Cuningham is intriguing....the ghost player

I don't agree that we're one paced, I think that's one area where we showed - through our ridiculous 30min surges - that we have players who can run and burst from the contest. We can play a brutal inside game and we do have some quality and pace, if inconsistent, users of the footy on the outside too

Our improvement simply must come from our high pressure then slice and dice turnover game. We are miles off the best in this department whereas we are in the top tier of contested ball teams.

i have said it for years we need pace /speed across hbf especially and followed by a quick mid . why do you think collingwood so good , Quaynor ,noble, daicos by 2, maynard cripps, macqueery all quick . Austin needs to recruit the correct players that suit MCG .

Spot on.

Acres & McAsey will be good additions, for free.

Take our first pick to the draft.

Cherry: Be good to package up a player or two plus late picks, to get another pick in the top 30. We don't need superstars - we have plenty. Need to improve on our bottom 6 with pace and ability to tackle and hit targets.

Ed is cooked. Couldn't play one full game all year. At his age and role why would we give him another contract?

I don't believe we are slow but we need some more run and players who do more over 4 quarters especially around wing/hb

I wouldn't give Ed another contract, but I've heard/ read Ed's been offered another year. Nothing official yet.
If this is so, it may have been a request by Charlie, and if so, he could easily be delisted and rookied, and made captain our VFL team.
Only value I see with Ed is as a hard tagger, but Setterfield sort of tagged against Oliver when Kennedy, Hewett and Walsh were out.

I've always been a fan of Hopper, and he was on SOS' radar but he resisted SOS' advances when we were shit.

If we didn't have money in the salary cap, something could be fashioned with agreement from the big contracted players Harry, Charlie, Cripps, Walsh and Weitering... add Williams to that group if they could see the benefit to their quest for a Flag.

If we do have money in the cap, where do we play all of Cripps, Kennedy, Hewett, Cerra and Hopper in the same team?

IMO, signing Hopper would see the end of Setterfield and Dow as inside mids.

No doubt sorting out our wings are our priority this Trade/Draft/Preseason.

Hopper hasn't become the player I thought he would, yet. Needs an injury free run

Unfortunately with Salary Caps he can't be a prioirty for us as we have that spot covered well. I think we have other prioirties and I hope we go to the draft to inject some young talent

How?
They've had the same coach since 2011 with a structured game plan with defined roles.
Time and we will get there and do the same.

Having the likes of Mills and Heeney as academy players helps.

Actually I am pretty sure Ed did play one full game for the year.

And Gulden and Campbell, who can't even get a game (although they took him before Gulden).
