Now talking about his tiff with Eddie saying he hasnt spoken in a year

He is a human headline and I hope 1 or 2 of the assistants know what they are doing because otherwise we are screwed

I was very pleased we made the changes at end of season.

However, I'm greatly concerned we can't seem to attract assistant coaches.

What is to be gained by bucking the recent trend of increased number of coaches?

Our coaching spend will be down in 2013 despite $ spent on MM and paying out contacts??? WTF

Successful clubs have increased off field spend and personnel - why would we think it's good to reverse this? the AFL are considering a cap on off field spend yet we are defying the trend of other clubs by having approx 20% less coaching personnel.

It's still the same people running the club. Why would we expect us to all of a sudden operate intelligently and professionally?

They bought a new senior coach, but that's about it.

McKay said football department spending wouldn't be down (still in the top half of the AFL), just that we'd have less coaches.
Personally, I'm a little surprised that we won't have a midfield coach, but given that Mick doesn't want a senior assistant, and 2 midfield coaches seemed overkill (especially for the results the provided last year), I'm not sure that it's such a concern that we have less coaches than last year.

I actually don't mind us downsizing the coaching panel but I think we do need a "dedicated" midfield coach.
I think we had too many chiefs last year and it showed.

And unless you have other info, it seems that we have only chased 3 guys, 2 of whom decided not to get into assistant coaching.
O'Bree going to Geelong instead of us is certainly disappointing.

MM would have either made this decision or ok'd it.

He doesn't get off the hook that easy.

If anyone seriously believe Malthouse is not having full control of not only the coaching panel but the list currently, they are seriously delusional.

Agreed. I'm very unenthused about where we are at in this regard and am absolutely fearful about what will transpire on field next year.

That being said, I was quietly optimistic going into this year (even being a nervous nellie) so hopefully it has the reverse effect.

Actually, the fact that senior Filth players were prepared to start a petition to keep Mick in the job ahead of the club's favourite son actually made me feel quite comfortable.

Actually the fact that the bitter old egomaniac went public with this, following his attempts to undermine Buckley during the year and Richardson as he was being sacked by the Blues help confirm what I think of our beloved new coach. He is going to have to be unbelievably good to get me to unhate him a little. I suspect MM started the petition and signed it on behalf of several Pies players who have trouble with writing. Collingwood gave him 12 years to win a flag and massive resources, what has he got to be bitter about? Pagan, for all his faults never publicly bagged the Blues even tho he had way more cause than Malthouse. This appointment (and the people making the decisions) is making it very hard for me to support the club as I have in the past

Yep, you are a spot on.

Collingwood gave him everything but when he went there they were nothing, they were last, they were broke and they were shit.
He did nothing for Collingwood in those 12 years it was all Eddie's doing :screwy:

..lookit, the ol' Malty is a crazy ol' coot, but he's now our crazy old coot, and like many a good coach, he's crazy like a fox.. ..i think some ppl are allowing their dislike of the man to cloud their judgement, i try to give credit where credit is due... ..and the ol' cantankerous git is a very good coach..

,,ppl should really try to refrain from making up their minds in such a closed manner, he hasn't even coached a game yet.. ..let's see what he can do for us first, we know he's highly capable..

That's not quite right.
We just haven't been able to hit our specific target of attaining a midfield coach.

The O'bree situation though is intriguing as he chose Geelong over us. Why?
Ling and McLeod may have just been happy where they were. No problem with that.

Whichever way though, I'll be just a little uncomfortable should we not have a good name with us withing 2 weeks.

It is a good post but for me i just can't handle the thought of Malthouse being at carlton. He could win us 3 flags in a row and i will still struggle. He is a collingwood/richmond dog.

This appointment robs me of the things i love about footy.

Barassi was a Melbourne dog, Parkin was a Hawthorn dog, Rhys-Jones was a Sydney dog, Perovic was a St Kilda dog.

Once they came over to the good guys they became OUR dogs!!! Same with MM. He's ours, so stop dissing him.
