I was happy that Alex was with him at the meeting, although how common would that be in a situation like that for the wife/partner to be there?

He looked ambushed to me and there would be heat from the club with his contract on TFS so he did look uncomfortable. I don't think he tipped Hutchy off.

The fact that DP was not there is glaring and pretty much says he is gawwwwwwnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn by season's end.

Both gone.

If as suggested a new coach comes in at the end of the season, then what power or influence does he have in deciding if Fev stays or goes? I would think that a new coach would demand a say in whether Fev is a required player.

Synbad are you suggesting that this decision will already have been made up for the new coach?

but then we get to trade him for an early pick ... so we don't really lose a pp, just our best player. But the real beauty is that there is no guarantee that the kid picked will be fit to shine Fev's bootlaces and then we can use our second round pick to draft a full forward instead of the best available ... this'll be great.

Hopefully we can have all the success St Kilda did when they got rid of Lockett and Hall (although it turned out alright for both Hall and Lockett i guess), or we can spend another 3 years on the bottom following the Hawthorn model ... but then to follow that model, we need to trade someone of value next year too. I hope Murph and Gibbs aren't to attached to the Navy Blue yet ... or maybe we could trade Walks - we might get a top 5 pick for him ...

So, exactly what model should we adopt, the 'think small because losing hurts too much' model or the 'think huge for self-sabotage' model? :?

maybe we should take on the hindsight recruiting model

Myth

just because we made the mistake of not trading Lance doesn't make trading Fev THE answer.

I didn't say it was but I just find it very disingenuous to argue in the negative whilst using Hawthorn as an example. It should be obvious to all and sundry that we have reached an impasse and something has got to give as far as our list goes.

flip. Theres a truism I was taught early in the corporate worlkd and it applies just as well here.

Don't like your current job? Then slacking off, playing up is NOT the way to transfer/get a new job.

Errrrrr.....no. Fev is childish and immature...but I highly doubt that it is to the extend that he is doing this on purpose.

I don't want to sound harsh, but that is quite a stupid thing to say. But you are entitled to your opinion. Again, sorry if I'm being a tad harsh.

Maybe you could indicate your source WB. Because I'd be amazed if Fev was hostile to Pagan. To the extent that he might not be happy that he isn't the unchallenged focus in the forward line, he would have to realise that few coaches would be prepared to leave him as a 1 out full forward (especially as few opposing coaches would fail to double or triple team him anyway).

It's not at all surprising that Fev has the shits with the new all inclusive forward line policy.
To me, Fev is a very one dimensional 'me' type of guy.

After reading 46 pages of varied opinion (and may I say everyone makes a valid case for their side of the argument), this is my simplistic summation in chronological order
1) Pagan gets sacked either b4 round 22 or the week after
2) New coach appointed.....probably Voss
3) New coach has a meeting with Fev. Knows that he is too much of a talent to automatically think of trading him.
4) Fev tells Voss he will knuckle down, be a team player, show leadership etc etc
5) Voss sells Fev a bright future with a gameplan and environment/culture that may produce ultimate success in the next 3-5 years
6) Voss and his team make the big call.............let's honour Fev's last year of his contract, see if we can turn him around.......again
7) Fev is told of this and is also told that the football dept are prepared to risk his depreciation value over 12 months for the sake of a new Fev in 2008
8) It's all up to Fev in '08. Ball is firmly and squrely in his court. either a new contract for 2009-2010 or thrown into the draft

When fev came out of the meeting with carlton over his future at the club neither fev or swan looked to pleased so i thiink that they will get rid of him at the end of the season.

Thats actually the wrong mindset to have if you want a good trade for someone like Fev.

Not doubting Fevs ability , but does he overrate his own importance a touch? ...to the teams detriment maybe??

You want to delist all these players but you still have to replace them with something better. Have you been watching the U18 Champs this year??? Good luck.
