What's Simon White - chopped liver????

Maybe more chop suey
In my view at 190cm too small for full back and better at the 2nd or 3rd tall marking/running option

Boy, meekstar, that's a tough gig for Judd on your team...two positions!?

I agree about the backline. I think Gibbs should be moved to the midfield now to strengthen it. Lucas also. The midfield is the make-or-break area for 2011 to my mind. Get that strong and working well together and we will games from there. Less pressure on the backs and more opportunity for th forwards.

What gets me about some of these posts, though, is how Collins and Laidler get in so easily....how can they be considered best 22 already?? Give them a go no worries, and like White, Lucas and Davies this year let's hope they take their opportunities, but not best 22. unless some punters want to be able to say in May "I told you so".

Oops :donk: That would be Murphy as ruck rover - but if anyone could pull off 2 positions at once it would be Judd

Could easily have Houla in before Collins think it will depend on pre-season and praccy match form

For what its worth and with so many unknows here is my team.

Armfield Jamison Joseph
Russell White Scotland
Simpson Gibbs Carrazzo
Houlihan Henderson Waite
Garlett Kreuzer Betts

R: Warnock Judd Murphy

I: Walker Mclean Lucas (Collins)

Obvious players like Laidler could come into that team.
Others like Davies and Ellard are on the edge.

I think the team is a long way from being a serious Premiership chance.

I can't say that it differs much to my team.
What happens to your team when you pick your best with Kreuzer?
I still reckon emergencies are worth considering in our best 22.
Whose your 3 emergencies?
There will always be at least 1 injury to a Senior 22 player every round; we've always had more over the last 10 years.

I believe these to be next 6 in-line for selection and this will be our core team in 2011.
Picking 3 will be week to week proposition. I'm hoping to see others like Davies, White, Casboult, etc push the above throughout the year however.

Armfield Jamison Russell
Bower. White. Yarran
Walker. Gibbs Lucas
Waite. Hendo. Simpson
Garlett. Kreuzer. Betts

Warnock. Judd. Murphy.

Bench: McLean houlihan Scotland carrazzo

This would be my first choice lineup, talented, quick, versatile and only a few poor kicks in the team. Carrazzo to play as a negator, yarran using his extreme pace and sublime skill of hbf,0 with Robinson, Collins and Hampson emergencies. If we could stay injury free this lineup could knock off anyone of their day.

My best 22 below (at this stage).

- where it is a line ball 50/50 call alternative players below in brackets.
- Scotland was good this year but turns 31 in July and is not the future. If players like Scotto, Houla and Carazzo are regulars in our best 22 next year then we probably won't be moving forward IMO.......just like Collingwood this year moved aside "regular" players like Lockyer, O'Bree and Medhurst we need to do the same.
- I think it is important that either White or Austin can develop into a reliable key defender for us.

B: Davies Jamison Armfield
(Laidler) (Joseph)
HB: Russell White Bower
(Austin)
C: Simpson Gibbs Lucas
HF: Garlett Waite Murphy
F: Betts Henderson Walker
R: Warnock Judd McLean
I/C: Kreuzer Yarran Carazzo
Sub: Ellard
Fringe Players: Scotland, Collins, Robinson, Hampson, Houlihan

Nothing really and i'd expect him to be in the selected team rd 1, but by mid season im not so sure.

Certainly love his hard at it attitude, but if i have reservations its his disposal / play reading across half back. Its certainly going to hotter for places for Army next year if we have a good run with injuries. Laidler comes on to the list, White and Davies were solid at times, add a new recruit or 2 ,a fit Bower and Austin maybe a rejuvenated Thornton? , plus a McLean and Lucas possibly added to the midfield might push the likes of Gibbs back to half back. So interesting times. Hopefully in response Army and co will step it up a notch.

I reckon Armfield will just get better. That's the trend.
His pace at AFL level is highly desired to break lines, make space and create opportunity and necessary for a top 4 team.
We only have 1 of his type, so I don't see anyone competing for his role in the team.

I know there's not much happening but there's still the 'form guide' to consider.
That's the good 'form guide' in the preseason, when you don't see anything and go with gut feel from gossip, media & inuendo.

It's a week or so before the draft and Watson is the bet/guess/likely/perhaps.
Point is, is that we haven't picked up anyone from the draft yet.

I'm also guessing we don't go for Anthony either....no one.

I don't know if the coaching panel in Ratts, Richo & Brown are 100% but they talk up Setanta as a backman.
CHB imo will be one of Setanta/ Austin/ Bower/ Waite/ White.
So I reckon we've got options given we're injury free and only lost Jacobs for height.

I just hope Jamison and Bower pick up their 2011 form to the level they are capable off: AA level.
I'm really keen on the idea of freeing up Russell & Gibbs to play midfield when we can.
Laidler is a good kick, but I think we need more class out there atm, so free up Gibbs and keep Russell at HB.

B: Armfield Jamison Bower
HB: Laidler Setanta Russell
C: Lucas Judd Gibbs
R: Warnock McLean Murphy
HF: Garlett Henderson Waite
F: Walker Kruezer Betts

IC: Carrazzo Simpson Houlihan

SUB: Scotland

EMERG: Hampson Joseph Yarran Collins

White & Austin

Just a guess.
Good luck in trade week

Ok so a quick break down of the list structure, using my best 22 as a reference point.

Ideally you'd want to have 2 of everything for your perceived best structure, which IMO is still this in modern footy: 5 talls, 2 rucks, 4 medium flankers, 12 smalls and mids. Ideally the flankers can play some midfield elements but need to be able to be a lead option or lock down one.

My best 22 has:
4 talls
2 rucks
4 medium flanks (Lucas, Russell, Houlihan, Walker)
12 small/mids

FB: Armfield Jamison Duigan
HB: Lucas Bower Russell
CC: Gibbs Murphy Simpson
HF: Yarran Henderson Houlihan
FF: Betts Waite Garlett

RR: Kreuzer McLean Judd

Int - Warnock Walker Scotland

Sub - Carrazzo

Which leaves the following:

Rucks - Hampson
Talls - O'hAilpin, Austin, Watson, Mitchell, Casboult*
Mediums - Thornton, Laidler, White, McCarthy, Dare*
Smalls - Joseph, Collins, Ellard, Davies, Robinson, Kerr, McInnes, Cachia*, Tuohy*

So the rucks are ok with a few pinch-hitting talls, we're a little heavy with medium types, and pretty much all remaining spots on the list need to go to smalls & mids to balance things out. Note that I'm assigning a type to a player based on the conceivably 'shortest' role they can play on-field.

The list is currently a bit tall, but I think at a pinch it can handle smaller, quicker teams without breaking into a panic. We'll most like put Cachia & Tuohy up as nominated rookies, unless we see a midfield role for Dare this season (IMO, it's the only way he'll survive after next season).

I think Watson, Laidler and Duigan are the best chance to play rnd1 from the newbies list.....the latter two have been playing senior footy VFL/SANFL and the former has the body size to slot straight in...mind you Watson is still a kid and even though he is built like Tarzan he might take a while like Tom Hawkins has at Geelong......still be Jamo, Setanta, Bower etc taking on the gorillas in the main for 2011 IMHO...

I'll have a go.

Best realisitic scenario as at Round 22 2011 ie heading into finals (a home one apparently )

B: Armfield Jamison Bower
HB: Lucas Watson Russell
C: Waite Gibbs Simpson
HF: Yarran Henderson Houlihan
F: Betts Mitchell Garlett
R: Kreuzer Murphy Judd
I/C: Warnock Ellard Carazzo
Sub: Scotland

Tricky.

Significants who can't get a guernsy: Walker McLean White Joseph Robinson Duigan McCarthy Laidler Collins Davies Thornton O'hAilpin Hampson

Starting to get some depth. Walker, McLean, White, Joseph, Robinson and Davies were all regulars this year, or would have been if fit.

Once Watson, Henderson and Mitchell (McCarthy also) get a couple of years under their belts, look out!

Sub is a stupid rule. Bet they get rid of it within 3 years.

I wouldn't expect Watson to be thrown straight to CHB just yet. He'll play his share of games in 2010, of this I have no doubt (his kicking is a weapon we desperately need back there), but we shouldn't throw him to the wolves so quickly. He ain't ready for Pav, Buddy, Hreevoldt and their ilk I would suspect.

Who is ready for those guys at Carlton and any other team? I suspect Jamo will anchor the FB spot, so who will play these formidable opponents further up the ground?

Pav....bloody difficult match up given his mobility and ground he covers as a forward....lets see we haven't got a match up..maybe Waite, Setanta???
Buddy..see above....Bower has done OK, and maybe Waite again. What happens if Bower is injured? Setanta?
Reiwoldt....Nathan Brown is the obvious choice given his effort in the GF, but I reckon his success came from the midfield pressure his team mates put on the Saints which made the opportunities to exploit rare for Reiwoldt.....we have....um....Waite

Then there's Jonathon Brown and Barry Hall to mind too....um who at CFC can do that? No one really. Setanta had Pavs scalp 3 years ago.
Oh yeah...then there's also Cloke, Dawson, Cox, NicNat etc. We really do need some height down back who can play against the monsters, because Jamo and TBird have been chewed up and spatout in the past because they were too short to compete...same goes with White and Bower really.

So you see there is a good chance Watson will learn his craft in the big league. I suspect that the next 4 months will be focussed on further developing his strength and endurance, and after that if he's fit enough...well there's the beginning of an era.

I'm not saying it's the right thing to do throwing him to the wolves, just that there's reasons why it may happen....unless Austin and Setanta really excel in the preseason.
