I think we are getting a bit ahead of ourselves with believing Teague is our man

I say let it play out to season's end and make an informed decision

We are only 5 games in and expectations have been low

Too early to tell

Expectations are starting to rise again

It will be interesting to see how they perform now

This week is a litmus test

100%

He has a 3 month probation period.
He's ahead of B Scott and R Lyon for me. That's a start.

Besides the Sydney match, the rest of Teague's coached games have resulted in us being 5 goals + down early.
The wins are good, but let's wait for a bigger body of work.

Here's the story from Tom Morris

https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/afl-20 ... f7877264ea

Quote:
Senior Carlton players have begun approaching key decision makers advocating for David Teague to be appointed as full-time coach.

The groundswell of support began quietly among players last month but skyrocketed after the club’s upset win over Fremantle in Round 14. The positive feedback for the former Roo and Blue has only increased since then.

Although player led support for an interim coach is not uncommon (and is also evident at Arden Street), foxfooty.com.au understands senior players have directly and specifically told head of football Brad Lloyd – among others – they would like Teague beyond 2019…

If Morris' report is accurate, what do we make of the players blatantly pushing for a coach?

Given our board-led appointments haven't really worked either, maybe a tail wagging the dog approach is as good as any.

The players' actions for the rest of the season will show how much they're prepared to push Teague into a full-time gig.

I would not make any decisions solely based on the wishes of the players. It's one factor among many.
Those same players will be telling the board members "We Can't play under Teague" in 2 years time, if things don't go well.

The players have been through so much, as have we. I do think it is important that they have input.
Teague is surely ticking a lot of boxes
And,
Let's not forget the Blueman factor.
This is not a 'honeymoon' thing. It's a footysmarts thing. Perfect choice for mine. Whether or not the RooTsy loving, moneyed influencers need to have a director of coaching as well is up to them.
The other way to keep Teague would be under a succession plan with a surprise big-name coach such as Clarko.
Personally, I'd rather just stick with Teague and get some ripper assistants around him.
Although funny how with a good coach, this no longer seems to be an issue. More kudos to Teague for that as well.
I guess I'm saying when it's right, it's right. I love seeing the players happy.

I think there is a reasonable body of evidence to suggest the Players have been "willing to play" for Teague already. We have seen clear improvement in a number of players outputs, like Charlie, Ed, Marc Murphy (has probably shown a complete turnaround to just turning up - which I think hes been guilty of for a long time - to making a consistent impact each week, Gibbons, Newman to name a few. The most significant though IMO is Jack Silvangni, who has been outstanding the last few weeks.

We've also seen at least two players in Cripps and Jones give their tick to Teague in the media recently.

So on the basis of what we have seen, Id suggest it more likely than not the players will continue to provide performances which are at least competitive and more likely to provide a few more wins.

Ratts has just been given six weeks by the Saints to show the AFL world what he's got.

There's no definitive right way to go about these things. Teague is doing brilliantly and it's his to lose if this continues.

There's also no reason to announce anything until this season is over.

If the players want him they have to prove it by winning this weekend when the pressure is on and win at least 1-2 more for the year. The balls in their court.

Wonder if Teague will apply for the Saints job? (Or the North job for that matter).

Imagine you were in a job that you were doing well and really enjoying, but there was no certainty of tenure past a couple of months. A similar job comes up that would keep you in work for the next, say, three years. What would you do?

My point being that all the discussion so far seems to have been in the one direction. I understand that Judd's comments were blown out of all proportion, but nevertheless nothing particularly inviting about Teague was said. What's wrong with admin emphasising that they'd love to talk to Teague about the position at the end of the year. Show a bit of enthusiasm towards the bloke, (without necessarily committing to anything).

He gets a couple more wins and we'd better.

Teague’s 11 game stint includes five games against clubs in the bottom six.

Brisbane ✅
Bulldogs ❌
Adelaide
West Coast
Richmond
Geelong

More to it than wins & losses, but these are the games that will earn him the gig... hearts & minds at the very least.

No point Teague applying for North. That is done.
Saints is down to 2 apparently, Scott or Ratts if he does a SUPER job.

There’s no need to rush this decision. Let the final 6 games play out before making any decision.

Teague is ticking all the boxes at the moment and at minimum should be told to start working on his presentation for the selection committee.

The reality of the situation is that we have 3 teams in the market for a new senior coach and not many great candidates. I understand the desire to appoint someone who has coached an AFL team on a permanent basis but I think we need to be careful putting all our eggs into this basket. The record of senior coaches at their second club is not great. Think about all the flag winning coaches since Mick in 2010 - all at their first club as senior coach. We shouldn’t forgot that an untried full time senior coach (like Teaguey) might actually become the next great coach.

We are still second last

We are not exactly setting the world on fire.

If Teague can get us to win over Richmond or West Coast, Ill start to take notice.

Until then, we are still an under-performing, inconsistent list who has beaten a few bottom teams.
