Mrs Cazz - Yep he is his manager and yep he may be stating things that Bret hasnt personally okay'ed. The fact is in a court of law it is more than just a wee bit reasonable to to accept that his actions have been done so with Bret's either EXPRESS or IMPLIED authority. So given it is good enough for a Court of Law I think it is more than reasonable enough for us mere Carlton supporters to get the shits when we see our Club spat on.

Its all good to have various examples defending Bret where the club might in the past have shopped a player around. The big difference is that the club was acting in the interests of the Carlton Football club not the individual. Now alot (and I dont mean anyone particular person) on this site rant about the club being the important entity but now see sit to question the same ethics they are willing to endose at other times. Well what is it the club or the player. You cant have you cake and eat it.

This player doesnt want our club so stop putting up excuses.

Yeah I'll put it in the memory bank with 'Pagan is gonna make you eat your words' and 'Collo is setting us on the right path'.

Boy am I gonna have to eat some crow.

That must be the same memory bank where you said Grant Thomas was a top quality coach.

Why was Sheldon? Why was Alves? It's StKilda they don't have much success but when they get a little bit they try to act like they have higher standards.

Tractor Boy - we will miss Thornton and we will miss him big time. As Mrs Caz mentioned, we don't know all the facts. His manager has been pushing him to go for some time. I can'tblame him. Thornton is just acting out what most of the guys really want to do - they don't want to play for Pagan and facing another two years of his mismanagement is driving sane boys literally insane - I really think that is what he means when he talks about a 'fresh start'.

We will have this scenario this time next year when Stevens comes out of contract. If Pagan is still at the helm, count Stevens out.

Thornton says he wants to be a Hawk

Quote:
With little difference between Carlton's final offer and the Hawks' three-year, $300,000- a-season deal, the decision, according to McConville, was made for other reasons. It is believed that the recent upheavals in Carlton's boardroom and the climate of uncertainty at the club were among those reasons.

Who is responsible for that?

See! Thornton is a cauliflower. :P

Quote:
"At the moment, they (Carlton) are saying he is still a required player but they are also saying they want a first-round draft selection for him," McConville said.

Hawthorn's player manager, Chris Pelchen, said he was confident of doing a deal with the Blues but not one involving the club's first selection in the national draft, pick six.

Quote:
The Blues, who say they want a first-round pick to consider a deal, will be happy to know that Essendon* and Richmond are also circling.

Essendon*'s first round pick would be perfect.

Quality journalism from The Age as per usual.

Why did he meet with Malouf and Williams on Thursday if he is so steadfast in his desire to be a Hawk?

You read between the lines - and it's clear that the relationship between coach and player is shot.

Quote:
So certain is he of his decision to leave the Blues that he declined an invitation to meet Pagan, who called his defender yesterday in an attempt to persuade him to reconsider.

Nice try Denis. Too little, too late.

Surely it's not just Denis which is making Thornton want to go? And how childish is it to refuse a meeting where any differences could be addressed, even if they will never be resolved.

Cop out.

Why didn't Denis meet with him earlier?

I think this is more of a concern…

"Malouf, McConville and Thornton met to discuss the proposal on Thursday, when it is believed there was embarrassing confusion over the details of Carlton's upgraded offer."

I think every party comes out with egg on their face. It's pathetic administration by the club and a perception of greed coming from the Thornton camp.

If Thornton was really serious about a tilt at the flag, he'd go to the Dogs surely. If the Dogs gave up pick 11 (would you do it Sedat?), you'd have to think seriously about it.

Hawthorn have been after him for awhile it seems; it's up to the other clubs to make an offer for him - Dogs might offer 350K (stupid but you never know) and be closer to a flag than the Hawks.
