EDIT: No, camelboy - it went to a picture of John Howard. I guess technically the interview wasn't a post so could not be considered?

Shane O'Sullivan has been involved with Carlton for a long time and if I am not mistaken was involved with the "spotting" of Stephen Kernahan in the very late 70s, he may not have been "the" recruiting manager per se at this time but was involved in the administration side and probably did a bit of scouting as well.

Then Shane went off to Footscray as their General Manager in around 1984 and later to the Brisbane Bears before returning to Carlton again, but I cant be sure of the dates.

Did a bit of googling and found out that Shane O'Sullivan was the brisbane Bears foundation General Manager of Football (from 1987), and stayed in the position until he was sacked in September 1992. I assume he went back to Carlton after that.

Looks like he had his fair share of adventures at the Bears.

http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2004/ ... m=storyrhs
Bearing in mind the turnaround in their fortunes, why didn't the Bears go ahead with you in 1990?

Legally, I can't talk about the settlement with Pelerman (Reuben Pelerman, then the Brisbane Bears' private owner), but Shane O'Sullivan went to Pelerman and said if he kept me on as coach, he wouldn't have a side because I was too hard on the players. That's absurd but that was a beef between O'Sullivan and me. It had nothing to do with the development of the side. He decided that was a method of squaring up and he squared up.

Thanks Jars.

The story with Kernahan is that Wes Lofts (who was Match Committee Chairman) at the time told O'Sullivan to go out and find the next Royce Hart.

O'Sullivan called him from the South Australian Schoolboy Championships circa 1978 after observing Stephen Kernahan marking everything in sight and said I found someone better.

Someone I'm sure will come over the top and correct me as my memory is getting real hazy these days.

Story is probably in Stephen Kernahan's book - which I will have to have a look at tonight at home.

Just had a look, and someone has put that story in the Sticks page.

I'd like to highlight a new section of the Blueseum called 'State and Club', which you can access directly from below or via Players:

http://www.blueseum.org/cfc/tiki-index. ... e+and+Club

This section allows you to access players from interstate, including links for Premiership Players, on a Club or Area basis. For example, all Glenelg players can be located including newboys Gibbs and Austin; all Claremont boys can be found including Benjamin and all NT / Qld players have their own separate page.

Of most importance of course is the list of Tassie players broken into North/NE, South and W/NW.

We might need to add a map so we can find the right spots. :P

Gee, spots can be difficult to find.

Just going through the Grand Finals.

I can't believe we have almost nothing on the 1970, 1973 & 1981 Grand Finals.

There's got to be someone who remembers those games and can add something!

Is there anything else that needs to be done on the Blueseum?

There is always something to be done in the Blueseum. Inside the Blueseum is a 'Task List' of anything that needs to be done:

http://www.blueseum.org/cfc/tiki-index. ... ask%20list

At the moment Blueworld is busy moving all player summaries to the respective stat shots. This creates a huge need and opportunity to summarise pre-2000 players histories in their own stat shots; much like Simmo and Kouta and Walker already have.

Also, I have been using the 'bible' (our all-player spreadsheet) to work backwards through debuts made by Carlton players and I think im up to about 1989. PM me if you would like the spreadsheet.

I just did a short interview with Searcher Magazine.

Will appear in an article in the March 2007 edition. The magazine is a U.S. based niche publication sent to around 4000 Database professionals monthly.

Nice little bit of exposure for the club anyway.

I had a chat with Carlton Comunications today and they told me that the club's secretary uses the Blueseum everyday.

She loves it apparently and thinks it is a godsend.

She gets all types of phonecalls from fans everyday asking different things, e.g. they might have a signed jumper where they know the number but not the signed name. Well the Secretary just looks it up in the Blueseum.

So there you go the Blueseum is also making life easier for staff at the footy club and helping fans who ring the club.

Well done contributors another success story!

I use it everyday - but my boss doesn't have the same high opinion of its usefulness.
