Potential names are littered throughout this thread. Andy Penn (CFO Telstra), Ian Herman (Managing Partner, Grant Thornton), Stephen Kerr (Vice President, State Library of Victoria; Owner/CEO, Public Relations Exchange), Mark Kerr (Director, Berkeley Consultants) to name a few. All life-long Carlton people. All attend Carlton games. All sit on a board. All talented businessmen. None have been approached. Time for succession planning. Why wouldn't you have some of these guys meet quarterly on an advisory board to the board and/or sub-committees with the view to them becoming board members?

On the proviso Agnetha Fältskog returns the guernsey to Rod Galt, then I have no qualm with her nomination for 2014.

Swann just demonstrated that the club does not understand the underlying issues. Was asked why we are not a 50K membership club and could not answer. Thought it might be the fluctuation in team performance...... really silly when a club like Richmond has been in front of us membership wise for the last few years.

Tom Elliott and Ahmed, daylight the rest.

Tom is da man for me - media player (will get Hinchy's 3AW drive gig soon  ) and media savvy, very bright, very passionate and well connected. He's his own man, big Jack won't suddenly "run the joint" as I'm sure a few here will want to argue.

I'd be very surprised if Tom had the time. He was close a few years back, but small things in his personal life have changed considerably since then. Would be a good get for the advisory group, and could then hit the ground running should the right time present itself. Had a bit to do with him in the mid-late 90's, great guy. Very switched on.

Doc I agree....what I was hinting at was that the current board may be monopolised....

While I agree he didn't offer much in the way of an answer, let's wait for official statistics before we say who we're ahead and behind of, though West Coast, Hawthorn and Collingwood definitely fit in the latter category.

Tom Elliott would be brilliant if he could devote the time. Savvy businessman, honest, and knows his football.

When was the last time we had one of those?

His father? Well 2 out of 3 aint bad.

There's one common denominator to each of these boards. One person who was a key part of each of them. Football director. Vice President.

And now President.

As has been pointed out so often by so many, he's been at the heart of every failed board since Elliott.

The thing I've never understood is what it is Kernahan's meant to bring to the board other than some mystical Carlton-ness.

So it's Sticks fault these blokes were so bad.?

Interesting.

Malty is in the bag, Sticks is standing down soon, so new Prez, apparently the board will be reduced to 9 shortly thereafter and debt is scheduled to be gone in 3 years.

I don't understand your anger. But carry on.

My frustration (not anger) is with a President who over 15 years has done nothing to suggest he knows what he is doing. Without going into the detail that has been covered already, we are a middle of the road club in how we operate, and are miles behind the power clubs like Collingwood, West Coast, Adelaide, Geelong, Sydney, Hawthorn etc. Kernahan has been involved with board after board that has failed to elevate us back to where we can consider ourselves to be one of the power clubs, which is where we all want us to be.

There is no doubt we are a middle of the road club, but it's unfair (IMO) to lay the blame of all our ills at the feet of the current Prez. Its also unfair not to give credit to improvements the club has made in his time. The position the club finds itself in is significantly better than it has been for a decade, it's far from perfect, but there seem's a plan to get to a better postition.

It's also a fact, a fact that many like to ridicule, that he is president because the board elects him. He doesn't own the position the board, a collection of people with variety of skills and qualities (not all of them useful in running a club) choose him.

I think he is fully aware of his shortcomings and he's making way for a better (hopefully) qualified person. A person who may be able to juggle the competing personalities of the people who make up the board more skillfully. A person who makes hard decisions with much less angst and makes good decisions more confidently.

He said it on radio the other day. To paraphrase " we are getting the board down to a manageable level and another year to 18 months tops will see me done" .
He may have even made reference to getting in some "new blood" with "fresh ideas". Can't recall it exactly.

So the reluctant president only has 18 months to go???
Thats not soon... soon is before Christmas.

18 months is 2 seasons.

The guy is hoping for a premiership... The guy being Sticks....
Signed
He has Juddy for a couple more years
Gibbs a couple more years
Murph for 2 more
Gibbs for 2 more
Yarran for 2 more
Kreuzer for 2 more
Robbo for 2 more...

and Cloke for 5 more.

After those 2 seasons are done...... we arent sure what state our list will be in salary cap wise....
But yeah.... hes hoping for a MM flag inside 2 years..... isnt he??

Then the reluctant president will go.....

But the board is being reduced by a nett loss of one...

The problem is Sticks... he stinks!!!
