How does that sound for an honour board???????????

Sounds great

I also mentioned a long way back, what about John Buchannon (ex Aust cricket coach) as a director of coaching.Thinking outside the square, but he's probably the most successful Australian coach of any sport in recent memory

My thought was to utilise him as a coach of the coaches.

Did you do a PhD in English Lit to decipher that Eric?

Very likely that Voss will be at the Blues in 2008

I hope you're right, Wolfe. Despite Voss' lack of experience, he would bring a fresh outlook and sponsorship by the bucketloads.

We'd get a stack of media attention and he could afford a year or two to hone his skills before we're ready for a full-on tilt at the flag.

I'm not a DP critic by any strectch, but an opportunity like this needs to be snapped up before Melbourne get the chance to cut our lunch.

Fairly well known in cricket circles that Steve Waugh selected Buchanan because he would do what he was told and be the ideal yes man so Waugh and friends could run their own agenda...

I could have coached the Aussie side to the same success. I think Buchanan just needed to make sure they had the right numbers on when they played onedayers, and make sure all the kit was loaded on the bus. The only decent fast bowlers in the world over a decade were all in the Aust side so a mediocre flat track bully like Hayden could get a ridiculous average plundering District level pace attacks, and various other average triers (Langer) could sit back and bask in the glory as the stars won them match after match....but back to footy. No to Voss, sounded like he was reading a prepared statement on Footy Classified. As others have said he can bring his laptop and the notes Thommo has writen out for him and do an exhaustive interview along with other candidates. I just hope our committee and Swann and Icke are a lot smarter than to bring in a name rather than a really good coach. Who knows Mark Riley might be the best option, but maybe we just want someone famous who has a proflie and an outstanding career as a player behind him. Timmy Watson perhaps?

I'm not convinced in Voss as the next coach...not against it and not for it...just don't know...no one does.

But I was thinking that Voss has been a superstar over the last decade; Brownlow mwdallist, triple premership captain and consistenlty voted in the media and in footy circles as one of the top 3 players in the competition over that decade.

He's defenitely got a BIG reputation, and that would be an advantage he could bring to the club. How?

Given we have 20 players under 22 yo, they would have been impressed by Voss as kids (10-12 yo right through to their entry onto AFL lists) when he was at the peak of his powers. I'm sure he wouldn't have to do much to prove anything about his ability, knowledge and status in the game...that would be an advantage for him coaching these youngsters. They know he means business and know what he's talking about, and due to the fact they all want to succeed and be half the player he was, they will listen to learn, and do as he asks.

I believe the kids would walk on broken glass if he asked them to in the name of Flag glory.

Voss is nothing like a previous superstar turned failed coach in Timmy 'the soft communicator' Watson.

Voss might just be the tonic.

I would be happy with any of Voss/Ratten/McKenna if they satisfied our selection panel.

I am warming to the idea of Guy McKenna more and more. Hell his nickname is even Bluey.
I would be confident in Voss stepping up to the plate. He would make mistakes sure but in a year or two he'd have learnt the ropes

I am not pushing up Voss for the job ( SOS if we need to change would be my choice), but Voss does have one ace up his sleeve. That would be in the area of list management. He has played against the majority of our list and has first hand knowledge of the strngths and weaknesses of our players. Who we perservere with at seasons end and who we don't will be debated by all us ''experts'' non stop. But Michael Voss would know who will fold under pressure and who won't. Who will improve and who won't. First hand knowledge gained inside the fence that could be invaluable come Septmber.
