I guess Curnow, Fantasia and one of Carroll/Boyd could come in the side.
Lucas Camporeale looks a good prospect however I'm not sure that he's ready yet - do we give him another week?

Must play the kid. Sometimes your teammates let you down by not offering viable options.
Agreed, Lucas is one of the last blokes I'd be dropping. There's too many that have run out of chances.

Haynes, I can see why some are torn on. On the one hand, it was his first game with us. On the other, he's a seasoned veteran, and we need to draw a line in the sand and let the boys know that subpar performances will get you dropped.

For me, Haynes and McGovern both have to be dropped for Young and someone else.

I don't care if Young stinks up the joint, he can be dropped the following week if that's the case. But no more free rides for performances like what we saw against Richmond.

That’s a good way to crush morale.

So where does that leave Weiters who made a couple of monumental blunders ? I'm not dropping Weiters and I'm not dropping Haines .

Carroll, Boyd, Wilson & Charleson are what’s left in the locker across half back. Otherwise, we turn to the midfield group.

Or… maybe don’t turn it over so carelessly. Clean hands. Stay upright. Don’t spoil your teammates uncontested mark.

I think you nailed the real problem right on the head Cruz . We must be the most fumble team in the comp . Clean hands we aint . Continually turned it over with our fumbling . Turnovers slaughter the worlds best game plan .

We will need a faster defence and more effective forward line against the hawks.

Out: Motlop, Evans, McGovern
In: Curnow, Fantasia, Carroll

Edit: forgot about Fantasia, bring him in instead of White.

For starters you don't go in with JSOS, McGovern, Haynes and Weitering in the same backline.
Saad, Carroll, Hollands and Cowan should play a lot on minutes in the back half so there's room for 2 talls and a rotation at the most. The idea of playing McGovern as a small defender is fraught with danger against quick forwards.
Cerra seemed to spend time in the back half again on Thursday when Jack went forward. I just don't get it. He's a midfielder who uses the ball well. It's not like we're overstocked with them at the moment.

Agree BV, I doubt we can go with JSOS, McGovern, Haynes and Weitering in many games.

Not sure Boyd's fitness however he would be handy against the Hawks.

Silvagni to follow Scilly?????

I would like to see Carroll in the side however according to a BF poster Carroll has his ankle iced after Friday's VFL match.

BV said it but our backline this week must be:
Boyd Weitering Cowan
OHollands JSoS Saad
Carroll being the 7th defender, if not available we need Doc or Williams to assist back.

I don’t want to sit here on Wednesday night seeing Haynes or McGovern in the team.

Interesting how many clubs had young players who played well on the weekend. Did we have any playing in our team much less who played well?

We seemed to have Jagga and then daylight. Our young players seem to progress as fast the SRL.

No saying it shouldn't be allowed, but this highlights one of the laws of the game that's all but ignored.

Quote:
Shepherd: the act of a Player using the body to push, bump or block an opposition Player who does not have possession of the football and who is no further than five metres away from the football.

This set play technically begins with an illegal shepherd.

We can't have Cottrell, Fogarty and Evans all playing up forward as we need to somehow kick a winning score. I wish Moir was knocking down the door for selection.
Also there is no need to play a tall defence this week - at least one of McGovern or Haynes to be left out.

Hawks definitely playing a shorter team with both KPFs out injured: Dear and Lewis. Hence the mosquito fleet.
A forward line with Chol (200cm and day (191cm) the main targets with 2 very capable and dangerous small forwards with the rest of themforwardline made up of mids who are also dangerous, team first players.

Can see Sicily playing wing, roaming forward as a marking target. He needs a minder and Acres may be his opponent at times on a wing.

Worpel missing from the midfield group will help, but they stilll have Newcombe, Nash and Amon to challenge. Then there's Moore on the wing, who must not be allowed to run wherever he wants.

Scrimshaw suspension leaves Battle and Barrass as the lone KPFs, and Weddle takes the 3rd tall. Obviously B & B take Harry and Charlie and Weddle takes Kemp.

Its on the floor that worries me most, because the Hawks small defenders are tough and quick: Hardwick, Impey & D'Ambrosio vs Fantasia, Williams and Fogarty

I am hoping Boyd is right to play, but don't think he will be picked with only 3/4's of a VFL game under his belt this summer. If not ,Carroll comes in to add a bit of speed, and, dare I say, poise. Gov can be moved to forward line or the VFL. For me, VFL.

OUT: McGovern, Evans, Motlop
IN: Carroll/ Boyd, Curnow, Fantasia

Doc to come in and take the wing, and Lucas as sub.

Harry to ruck with TDK, because Weddle needs to be held to account by Kemp, who has been rehearsing for this defensive tall role all summer. When Harry goes in the ruck, it will be B&B doubling up on Charlie. I hate that.

We can win this, but need a 4 quarter effort from the midfield group, who should be breathing fire.

Hawks $1.90 at -15.5.

Gamble responsibly.

I've had daydreams of punting my mortgage offset account balance on a Hawks win, feels like an easy shortcut to a mortgage free life. But then the navy counts would go and play a blinder, wouldn't they?

Young Campo played well I thought.
This seems to be an issue at the moment. Our lack of good young players. We have only had a couple of Rising Star nominations since Walsh won it.
Either they are not good enough, not being developed properly or they are simply not getting a go.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but my response to that would be, they need to harden the @#$%&! up.

You play shit, you get dropped. No more coddling, at least for some of these older blokes.

From yesterday's Age

Quote:
After struggling with Richmond’s pace, the Blues will surely struggle with Hawthorn and their team that runs in waves in a style reminiscent of that employed by Alan Jeans, whose Hawks teams of the 1980s borrowed from rugby’s rows of runners.

That said, a win over an in-form opponent is just what the Blues need, if they are to reaffirm themselves as a team able to compete with anyone.

Hawks have incentive

The other element to remember about this Thursday’s game between the Hawks and Blues is the added incentive Hawthorn has to put their old enemy to the sword.

The Hawks already have Carlton’s first round draft pick this year. As part of the Blues plunge to get Jagga Smith at No.3 in last year’s draft – which, notwithstanding his ACL injury, remains a sound strategy – they traded this year’s first round pick to the Hawks.

We can win this.

Pick the best team who can run hard and fast for longer, and rotate as much as we can to keep the intensity up: in the ruck and with the mids. Rotations is the key.

We need more players rotating through the midfield.

Charlie expected to play KPF, with Kemp or Gov the other marking target. Prefer Kemp against Weddle.

Start mids

TDK ... Harry (if not Young)
Cripps ... Hewett/Lord
Hewett ... Lord/ Fogarty/ Doc
Cerra ... Walsh ... Williams /Fantasia

Keep the intensity up for 4 quarters.
Don't need heroes. No room for selfish play. Bring in team mates.

We need everyone sharing the load, and keeping their opponent in check.....and when we have the ball...fkn spread...especially in the forwardline.

Don't think, DO!
