that’s his edge over the other “small forwards”. that and his defensive game. uncompromising. not flash, “blue collar” and proud.

a bit of western bulldogs/libba about him. was terrible last year but has become mr reliable as an extra mid up the ground.

Don't think we played well at all from a team/gameplan perspective but we had enough individual quality to get us over the line. I think/hope it was nerves. The expectation of playing our first final in 10 years, being 5th playing 8th in a home game and starting favourites, I think that pressure got to them a bit. And I hope this is what led to our incessant bombing down the line.

It really is inexplicable how we have gone away from the style of play that got us back into form over the past 3-4 weeks. For a little while we were controlling possession, looking for the short 20m passes, switching the ball in D50 then looking for the 45 degree kick back into the middle and breaking lines. Now we are back to just loading up on wing and kicking long down the line to a contest. So many times we could have switched the ball to the fat side but there just seemed no intention to do so. No one leading or calling for it. Just a general acceptance that the ball was going long down the line. Is this the gameplan? Are we trying to maximise stoppages? I really hope not, and it was just nerves and pressure that led them to taking the safe option.

Anyway, hopefully getting the win will have the monkey off the back and we can go into the Melbourne game without the same weight of expectation and play with a bit more freedom. Losing Martin will hurt big time and Harry potentially as well but a smaller forward line might force us to use a different method of ball movement which could benefit us, especially if JSOS gets up. I'd honestly be tempted to bring Fisher back in. He's one player who always wants to create from half back, not just go with the safe option.

His kicking stinks though. Pie floaters with zero penetration. There was one F50 entry when we were on that was so bad. Easy pickings for the defender

You've inspired me CarltonClem!
with permission some extra re-wording of the BeeGees "Stayin' Alive", folks get the tune in your head and here goes....

Well, you can tell by the way I use my walk
I'm a Carlton fan, now hear me talk
Crowd is loud, just see us swarm, we've been Navy Blue
Since we were born
And now it's alright, it's okay
And you may look the other way
But you should try and understand
The navy Blues are right on plan

Every Carlton brother or Carlton mother
We're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin'
And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive

Well now, I get low and I get high
And if I can't get either, I really try
Got the wings of Heaven on my shoes
We're coming now and just can't lose
You know it's alright, it's okay
We're alive to see Grand Final day
You should try to understand
This win's effect on every fan

Every Carlton brother or Carlton mother
We're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Feel the city breakin' and everybody shakin'
And we're stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive, stayin' alive
Ah, ha, ha, ha, stayin' alive

You bastard that is stuck in my head now :-)

I have just finished watching the replay.
Walsh was fantastic, of his 29 possessions 14 of them were contested.
We will miss Martin next week unfortunately.
Did anyone notice Harry in the rooms?
He looked like he had no idea where he was.

Not sure Harry ever knows where he is.

Yes I noticed Harry during the song, he wasn’t even singing and looked totally out of it, I suspect he had no idea why he was part of the circle.

Interesting to hear Cerra in the post game interview describe the calmness he felt in the last 25 seconds, he said they’ve been though this before (last year) and they now know exactly what to do in this circumstance and how to win. And that he was certain they would win if they followed the plan.

Good to hear they were calm, I know those of us in the crowd weren't.

Tell me about it. Was far from calm. Good to hear Cerea was and hope he gets recognition he deserves. He is elite. Not sure all his teammates were calm though.

Very noticeable and made for uneasy viewing. I half expected him to fall over when his neighbours unlinked arms.

My immediate reaction is the opposite, I think our gameplan was designed to reduce Swans' opportunity to hit us on the turnover, and was largely effective but for five glaring individual errors (Hx2, Newman/Gov kick ins, Kemp's fear of the deliberate behind) that produced a30- point swing making an otherwise comfortable win into a bum clencher. You could be harsh and throw in Weiters's dropped mark and nutmeg of Martin that made it a one kick game with 30 seconds left. Aside from that the system held up nicely under the final quarter siege.

I did have that thought. Perhaps it was the game plan to load up the wing, kick long to contest, and create more stoppages. Not pretty but I guess it plays to our strengths

The Princes Park Whistler ? what an absolute gentleman . Pass on my regards . Hey Vintage , tell him to get back on the site will you . His contributions were always appreciated . Especially around that recruiting area where he and Cazz and the likes excelled .

Will pass on your regards. PPW said he reads talking carlton but doesn't post much anymore.

For those on Facebook.

Designated biased footy calls are always the best...haha. This one has Andy Maher, Sellers and the Dominator.

Yeah, that's my take. Unsatisfying to watch, but maybe the right plan for the opponent/occasion/conditions. It's notable that Sydney never really got a run on except after H's deflater.
