Looked completely lethargic and reactive after quarter time. But geez the first quarter was electric.

Saad and stocker will be a big upgrade on Newman and Boyd.

Martin is another level to Owies Durdin and fisher and should have played.

And I think we can upgrade on O’Brien even though he’s improved. Would love some more speed

How is the f...!! Is fisher even playing , one sided player only runs one way and terrible

Owies his gut runnin and being the short release kick is something that’ stood out for me above everyone else , wow he covers territory !!

no to fisher durdin and owies in the same team - pick two, the other out for Martin (and maybe another out for Motlop?)

No to Boyd. Just no.

Stocker for Newman - Hurry.

LOB/Setterfield - so 1 the otjer is Carroll's when he is ready to play.

Hope Kemp has a ripper tonight!

Lewis Young is a keeper. Reads the game incredibly well and his extra height and reach is a huge advantage. There would nice little montage from all his spoils from the game

Plus there was handy no 33 back in the 80”s who won some flags for us ,,, that number is due !!

Great to get the W, it's been a while since we have been 3-0 to start a season. Ugly win in the end but so glad we got the win. I was so happy to have snatched the win from the jaws of defeat. I hope this is case of Carlton being a good team that finds a way to win in the end even after sputtering to the brink of a loss. As they say a good team always finds a way to win.

Always take the win Mick  but could have done much more
Had them at our mercy and let them
Off the hook
Good sides would have steamrollered over us easily
Tempo footy stuff stuck in our backline and stodgy ball movement gave it to the Hawks

Should have mentioned that Kennedy was pretty good again

Saad and McGovern and Oscar out from the week before so half the backline replaced to play today

Gidday Frank .Always love your take on things and lotta truth in your comments , but at the moment i aint gonna get picky . Just gonna roll with it for the moment .Soak it up .

We look like we have gassed out in the last half of the last 2 matches. Maybe we're not used to running so hard....lol.

We finished over Richmond but after being in control they gassed out big time today as the Saints kicked 64pts unanswered. We have at least won those games still.

I’ll have to watch the replay, but at the ground I didn’t think Fisher was bad today. I wouldn’t be in a rush to drop him.

You were clearly. Watching a different game

For us older guys it was great seeing a Silvagni pretty much finally sealing the win for Carlton over Hawthorn.

We'll learn from this ..... been a few lapses in all 3 games so far but we'll learn.

Lucky to win ....... NO WAY

Listened to the call in a swing chair on a balcony at the base of the Cathedral Ranges today so haven’t seen the game, but considering Tiges, Dogs and Hawks are probably our biggest bogey teams of the last decade I don’t really care how we won.

Only that we won.

Oh...

...and @#$%&! you Hawthorn!

Take the 4 points. 3-0. Great start to the year when considered holistically. All about banking wins early to set up the season and we are doing that.
Doc and Weiters great, especially late repelling everything
Midfield certainly did their job but maybe not as damaging as the first two weeks.
Thought Young was more than solid on debut.
A lot to work on given the what happened after 1.5 quarters in but good grit to win when all the momentum was against us late.
As Frank said, need to learn to bury teams when ahead
Take the win and onto GC next week

We need to learn to not play like millionaires and to stand on the throats of these bastards, as they would us.

A few players stepped up at the end and said 'No, whatever else's happened today, we're winning. This is the standard'.

It won't happen every week, but it has started happening and we can only improve from here.

I was thinking this during the 3rd qtr, we were 4 to 5 goals up. They were coming, we should have played better tempo footy, control the game. We didn't have to kick goals, they did. We should not have given them a sniff, we kicked to 50/50 contests, made wrong decisions and played too attacking which opened the game for them. No doubt we are learning to control the game however we still have away to go. Cripps twice in the last qtr moved the ball on to quickly. Let them come to us and give them nothing.

Regardless we won a game we would have lost last year, plenty to learn but on the up.

Just watched Sam Mitchell after the game.

Just like the old days, Cyril didn’t even kick a goal and he’s still the subject of 60% of the presser.

If you're as old as me, you will remember in 1995 we had many close wins.

Just saying.

I remember 95 and I was 8 years old at the time. We lost both our games to bottom half teams St Kilda and Sydney. Great times after the disappointment of 93.

Hope to god they review that game hard. Plenty of learnings.

Same. The forward line needs a bit of a kick in the ass IMO. Our smalls just seemed to completely go missing after qtr time.

The whole team just looked stationary as the game wore on; Hawthorn ran & spread hard, but when our player had the ball it just looked like noone up field was presenting. Looked like we were coming off a 5 day break, not a 10.

Loved Jack's goalsquare mark in the first, reminded me very much of his dad

Really need Saad back in that squad, thought we missed him big time today.

Zac Williams did some nice things but I noticed he hurt himself in a marking contest late, but played on.

Took my 9 y.o. & we were both relieved to not lose after a 40 point lead, but didn't feel great either. Just didn't think we played that well. The game reminded me a bit of a match against Melb in 96 I think it was. They got out to a big lead early & we slowly pegged them back, only for them to finally goal & pip us narrowly.

Stagnant in that second half, fumbled marks, fumbled ground balls, it was how we started the first 10mins of the game too.

Great to win, we dominated the game, just couldn’t capitalise on the scoreboard.

My son took me to see Hamilton today so I missed the whole game.
Saw the quarter time score and then when the game had finished.
I think it was probably a good thing I didn't go, sounded like it was a pretty tense final quarter.
I am watching the replay now.
Here we are with a 3-0 start, who would have thought.

P.S
Hamilton was fantastic.
