Our problems stem from the midfield ... we need players that can run hard and run fast. Murphy had 35 possessions and was ok ... Gibbs 26. I won't criticise either of them. We have an extractor in Crimps . .. but he was down on the night for some reason. What we really really want is line breaking players to add speed in the middle. I think you would find that the performance of our backs and forwards would improve dramatically.

Pretty sad when you have Army in leadership group
Not much for our young player to look up to

Leadership isn't simply being a gun footballer.

He'd be a pretty good example to the young guys I'd have thought.

We're going to get thrashed in a lot of games this year. A lot.

Some decent foundations down back though. And Richmond are the same old Richmond...so it's not all bad!

Couldn't be too unhappy with that, but gee we got killed at the stoppages, plus too slow in defence when ball hit the ground. White and Thomas to go? Would have liked to see a bit more from our experienced players.

We'll win a few, but it's going to be a long, hard season for the kids. I fear they'll fall away badly towards the end of the year. Roll on 2019, all things being equal (and with luck with injuries) we could be a good side by then. A flag in 2020? There, I've said it.

Don't know what to think of the Tiges, I felt that if we kicked the first goal of the last quarter they may well have started to panic. Ninth again? And Rance is a dirty prick.

two incidents and probably nothing will come of it
the thing that pissed me off was that no one especially casboult didn't do anything about it

Agree, and he looks like he's also lost a yard or two from last year.

His disposal kills us at critical times, and he's been doing it for years.

But what Crippa said - Bambi.

Simpson always is rusty for the first 4-5 games of the year, improves as the year goes on.
Happens every year.

Agro made a good point. Jack gets paid that mark. It's 3 goals the difference. Instead, ball goes the other end for a goal and it is 5 goals.

Dusty definitely the difference.

For me, Thomas, Dennis, Levi, White all marking time till others ready to step up.
Rowe was pretty good defensively.

We didn't pick our best 22 to win the game. The result reflects that. But we just have to get games into players.
C Curnow back to Northern for me. Needs to develop some form. Happy with the others atm.

Yes, I got the feeling Simmo won't play past this season.
Then again, I remember that was the general feeling 3 games into last season and then he went a bit nuts...

Maybe he lost his powers when he shaved off his beard?

In time, this is what we're hoping SPS, Poulsen, Pickett, Lebois, Byrne, Fisher and Cunningham will add into the side.

I wouldn't be too excited if I was a Tigers supporter (except re Martin who was awesome and looks in great physical shape & also Prestia who looks like he belongs already).

Saw a few bits and pieces for us but I do worry about Rowe, White and Thomas who obviously will need to be replaced before we can be consistently competitive.
Wright was also a bit dodgy but at least he did some good things to somewhat balance out the bad things.

Good for us:
- Murphy was fantastic
- Kruezer was very good
- Weitering again showed how classy he is (but I still see him as a long term backman)
- Marchbank looks like he will be great (fantastic defensive KP stocks = Weitering, Marchbank, supported by Docherty & Plowman is a solid defensive core)
- SPS - Didn't dominate by any means by geez when he got the ball he looked like C Rioli when he first started in terms of his movements, balance, vision.

Not great:
- Cripps still warming into it. Hope that is the case rather than his back limiting him to this level all year
- White, Rowe - sometimes get the ball well (strong mark, running to good spot) but then stuff it up with a poor decision or terrible execution
- Thomas - not bad once he gets the ball but just doesn't do it often enough or at important contests enough

Twice Thomas was clear with the ball and kicked it directly to a Richmond player. Both times the Richmond player was 20 metres from the nearest Carlton player. One of the occasions it was Rance who was a long way away from any of our players and Daisy kicked it straight to him as if Rance was the leading forward.

Rowe was fixated with punching the ball/spoiling. A number of times he could have marked the ball easily. The stand out was when he jumped and had his head and shoulders about 4 foot above his opponent, but he still punched the ball to the boundary line. if he marked it, it could have been mark of the year contender.

Yes that was clearly an against Melbourne and St Kilda - speed to break away from the contest but also speed to get to the contest and tackle. SPS has it, do Cuningham or Fisher? Murphy and Gibbs do not.

Didn't Martin hip and shoulder Ed Curnow to the head in the first quarter?

:?

If it didn't get highlighted by the commentators and replayed 100 times it never happened.

Yeah, I also was watching Cripps and hoping it was lack of match time rather than on going back issues holding him back.

Thomas? The coach must see something I don't (you would hope so!) but I just don't see any point in playing him. Not worth his place, and at present it's surely about developing the kids.

Kruz looks fit and it really makes a difference excellent
Murph smart, prolific, keeps getting hit and keeps standing up, tough in the real sence and I think he’s great
Weiters looks like the forward to take us forward and now with marchbank in the side I am a converter and believe he should be our ff
Jack is smart and already a handful and if charlie works harder at the loose ball
Pickett will grow into a very good small and if harry comes along will we have the forward line that is hard to match
Rowe was very good as a defender but very sloppy when the ball was on the ground or in dispute
Plowman and marchback read the play well and will grow into very reliable defenders when their disposal is sharpened up
Simmo and doc to be honest I was disappointed in not because of their ability to get the ball but they did butcher the ball and made some unforced errors, hopefully it’s a one off
Sps will be a get there sooner rather than later
Pickett is smart, fast, and an elusive team oriented player
Our negatives we need to work harder at cohesion, ball transfer and our hand is terrible, believe it our !@#$% hand ball
I’m not going to mention white or the flower
Well no more whinging next week we gain a bit more experience and unity within our team collectively and cross our fingers they start cutting some dead wood from the side

He's also getting older every year... never seen anyone rediscover their speed, especially at Simpson's age.

Rather see Palmer or Kerridge in the side than Thomas. Just doesn't get it enough and when he does it's a reminder of what MM has left us.

And as for Griggs's goal celebration ....

I was pretty emotionally uninvested last night ... But Zeus that got me out of my chair. What a cauliflower. Shannon Grant level frontrunning celebration.
