almost as scary as Gibbs.

When you get the ball over 20 times in a game and dispose at 100% efficiency with no support, it is elite. He is in the top 3 for his position in the comp.

Maybe we just have a different definition of elite.

When you support Carlton and have had to put up with the off an on field tripe for the past 15 years, you'd call anything elite.

Nicholls, elite, Jesaulenko elite, Doull elite, Johnston elite, Silvagni elite, Williams elite, Koutafides elite, Judd elite.

If Simpson is elite, then ...... Flowered if I know.

Well said.

I listened to people today saying oh well it's okay he's a good player etc. I thought I was watching absolute crap. It's all perspective I suppose

Nothing to do with a soft free or 2 on the day. Happens all the time. We just don't like him.

Why?
He is not a dirty player who runs around sniping.
Funny that the booing only started after he received a free kick. Must have been a coincidence and they suddenly remembered that they didnt like Murph.

I don't know, but Murphy is looking a bit more sun tanned than usual.

Clearly the best player on ground.

Already elite at 20 (besides his goalkicking efforts0.
Seriously, if he doesn't win the Rising Star award, there's something wrong.

The Ox is already leading the charge to have Hogan win it.
I dont know if anyone heard him on radio last week but it made my blood boil.

Why does it make your blood boil though?

That he is on a campaign to push for Hogan.
He was going on about Cripps only being a midfielder who are a dime a dozen.
We all know Cripps wont win it, he plays for the wrong club.

it took awhile on the broadcast,
but they did start acknowledging him,
and were gushing by the end.

how can ya not love Cripps.

or Simmo for that matter.
I hate hearing anything less than praise for Simmo.
We owe Simmo a huge debt of gratitude I reckon.
thanks Simmo.
I love your heart and courage, consistency and constant effort.
You are magnificent.

I agree with all that, but when the "elite" word gets thrown around, it's about as accurate as the majority of our disposal.

Those players are champions. Simmos performance today was elite. Name the better back flanker/pockets in the comp. Yes birchall is one. There are not too many. He would not be out of place in an All Australian Team

Oh, spare me. I know you go to all the games. Don't pretend this is the first time you've heard an opposition crowd boo Marc. I certainly know it wasn't mine.

Personally for me, I think he's soft. That's basically it. Captaincy is an honour that only 18 blokes at any given time get. It's something that should be earned and valued. And people don't like when it's handed to weak people who don't deserve it. Like Marc. And I've read enough on this board to know lots of Carlton supporters don't agree with the nod to him either.

Maybe search the words "Nick" and "Maxwell" on this board and you'll find many of your supporters felt the same way about him. To be honest, so did I. For a long time. But over the years I was made to eat humble pie. None more so than when he became a premiership captain. That didn't change the attitude for many outside the club. But who cares?

Really, the question is, why do you care so much if opposition supporters don't like your captain?

The only people cheering for Hogan are Melb fans and ex forwards in the media like Ox and Mooney.
And Mandy is right, Murph has a rep for being a softcock, and a couple of things he did today did nothing to change that rep.

Don't let Schwarz make your blood boil

a) Because it's Schwarz
b) Because it's the rising star

Neither really matter.

Reasonable showing today, disposal was terrible at times but the effort was OK.

We just have a way of making everything look so damn hard.

Kezza who carss who gets the RS. Sure i'd like it to be Cripps but if i was selecting i would probably go for Hogan. Gun chf are very rare. Cripps is a terrific player for us and will get better and the RS rarely turns out to be the best player over their career.

Murph may have had a reputation for being a bit soft but he has led magnificently this year. I only heard booing because of the free and it died down quickly. It is disappointing that people don't understand the difference between booing for a football matter - soft free, dirty player, show pony etc, and booing someone who has risen from a dreadfully disadvantaged group and makes clear intelligent statements that challenge cosy white australia who want their minorities to be obsequious uncle toms.

M. Ali is the greatest ever sportsman not just because of his sporting performance but because he didn't accept being patted on the head and told that he needed to be seen and not heard. He changed race relations in the US in a way that few have and didn't accept being treated as second class. Not saying goodes is ali but i think minorities who stand up ag the status quo should be applauded and not booed.

Anyway a few boos for a soft free are the least of our worries. I'd like oppo fans to boo one of our players because they are nasty belligerent players with a bit of uncompromising savagery. Not sure whether we have anyone on our list like that.

PS is elite the most overused, ill defined most misunderstood word used in sport?

YES!
I can't belive the crap on here about it. Trying to "prove" he's not worthy of being called elite because Jezza, Kouta, Judd, etc. were better. What a nonsensical pointless conversation. Just praise him for a great game and move on. What drives supporters to try to decrease another supporters love and admiration in one of our players just in the name of being "right" in their own eyes / small world. Instead of talking about his great contribution today it morphs into picking on his defficiencies.
