Glad Boekhurst kept his spot. Would like to see him get a decent run on a wing this game.

Dick was the one I thought looked below average in preseason training but he looked a bit better against the Eagles. The follow up match this Sunday will be big in moulding the year for many players. Byrne is the other that I feel the coaches are keen to get senior footy into.

How was his disposal on the run? He seems a clean kick of the footy from the mark, but his ball drop appeared inconsistent during his time at the dogs, and he had two absolute scrubber I50s against WCE.

Sounds like Lucas.

Lucas was actually a better kick under game pressure.

Actually?

I disagree. Lucas has a chip kick to goal and that's his only accurate kick Imo....couldn't hit a target on the run.

Did you see Lucas ' kicking in his first game for WCE? I don't think he got onto any I50... Bomb and hope or OOF.

I've seen plenty of Tutts kicking and tHe display in the blustery conditions was not typical of Tutt. Actually.

That's my opinion so interested if anyone agrees with jimmae. .

Lucas missed that running shot for goal from 15 metres out that would have buried the Dirty cheating drug taking scumbags in that game in 2013.

Vs Port last week, Kane ran into an open goal and sprayed it OOBOTF. Exactly the same as that game, Agro. The memories came flooding back, typical Kane Lucas coach killer.

I've seen nothing to dissuade me from this as yet, but we picked him from Footscray because he was in form for their VFL side, cheap and starved of opportunity despite a misfiring forward line and him being a reasonably high draft pick.

I hope it works out OK for us, but I think he might be equally starved of opportunity here after his first season, he'll just know he has a reasonable crack at senior footy as opposed to the shutout they were putting on him and others at the Dogs.

That said his best position would seem to be that high HF which pushes up the wing and delivers, rather than kicks a bag of goals. I just hope his kicking technique improves and holds up.

Shut out? Why would a coach shut out a player unless he A. refuses to play his role or B. Isn't good enough?
Coaches are in the business of winning. If Tutt deserved a spot in the seniors Jim, he would have got one.

Coaches also have egos and minimum expectations that vary across the league. He might be a good player but if he doesn't do a certain thing the way the coach likes compared to 30 other blokes, he might not get a look in.

If everybody played the same way, everybody would look for the same kinds of players. McCarthy was sacked and his forward line was misfiring. They then lost two forwards after recruiting a new one (and I'd suggest we got straight in their ear once we found out Boyd would be going to the Dogs and not us).

Preview: Northern Blues v Werribee

Northern Blues VFL: 1. Bradley Walsh, 2. Matthew Dick, 3. Billy Gowers, 4. Dillon Viojo-Rainbow, 6. Jake Wild, 7. Dylan Buckley, 8. Brent Bransgrove, 11. Tom Fields, 12. Lachlan Langwell, 19. Matthew Watson, 20. Nick Holman, 27. Cameron Wood, 31. Ciaran Porter, 33. Nick Graham, 34. Blaine Johnson, 37. Dennis Armfield, 42. Ryan Tester, 51. Chris McCabe, 55. Lachlan Boscarini, 57. Fraser Russell, 63. Eamon Gilbert, 66. Dyson Stevens, 78. Damon Aujla

Foster didn't come up for his first VFL hitout it would seem, but notably we've named quite a few from the squad of 29 posted on Thursday.

That gives the following line up:

FB: Jaksch Jamison Tuohy
HB: Yarran Rowe Docherty
CC: Bell Gibbs Simpson
HF: Boekhorst Henderson Tutt
FF: Menzel Jones Casboult

RR: Warnock Cripps Judd

Int: Everitt, Carrazzo, Byrne, Smith, White, Curnow

This is 6/2 bench game, so if that's the VFL team, expect Buckley, Graham, Watson, Dick and Armfield to play 2 and a bit quarters for Northern before making the trip up to Bendigo as the sub & emergency contingent.

Bit of a knock on Watson, Buckley and Graham with this line up, but I'm sure others will make way for them next week. Do we rate Tutt, Boekhorst, Byrne and Smith as reasonable chances for round 1 selection? I would thought Boekhorst was a decent chance, and Tutt and Smith if they impressed, but this squad is a little bit of a surprise.

Buckley and Watto will likely contribute strongly tomorrow morning to put their hand up to play in the afternoon.

Jim would have surely got off if he could have highlighted Ellard's name in the Magoos.

If bolt, hendo and jones work well together and hit the scoreboard, we'll see them play again against Geelong and then into Rnd 1. One of those three would have to get injured or play a shocker for Watto go get another look-in.

I see Smith being picked over Tutt if either were in contention for playing Rnd 1....

Likewise, I see Boekhorst being picked over Graham if either are in contention for Rnd 1. TBQH Graham doesn't know whether he's an inside mid or an outside runner - jack of all trades but not really outstanding at either. At least Boekhorst can run and deliver and he needs to be given a chance to find his feet and play outside our senior mids.

Really looking forward to this arvo.

I agree but would consider the form of Jones and Watson before picking one over the other. That said, Buckley has definitely missed out here.

Watto is currently dominating up forward in the VFL practice match. 2 goals in a low scoring game and probably 5 or so shots at goal.
