Betts was gone before Malthouse even arrived. The Adelaide prez virtually announced ater the 2014 pre-season they had Eddie at the end of 2012. He played the entire 2013 season with us knowing he was going to Adelaide at the end of the year.

If you don't understand the concept of free agency, you should read up about it.

Bang your head against that.

Match Adelaide's offer and Betts stays and we don't get Dale Thomas, bang your head against that.

Betts was never going to be our saviour

when are people going to realise that the only way to rebuild is through the draft

should have kept the compo pick and invested in youth, pretty obvious I would have thought

paying half a million dollars to a player who struggles against the better teams would have been ludicrous, just like the Thomas deal

We have a good coach
Poor president
Dysfunctional board with only 3 or 4 worthy of their position
Poor recruiting department
Poor CEO

It is 5 years to build a base that might deliver sustained success

The whole Thomas argument suits the malthouse scapegoaters to a tee.

ok do we have a rubbish board but a good board/???

He was sacked by Collingwood

  ROFLMFAO. HE WAS SACKED????

You guys! He was sacked in 2009. What a great move. In the next 3 years after being sacked, he took them to a Preliminary Final, and 2 grand finals in a row, winning one.

That sacking was probably the single biggest blooper / face palm in AFL history. I'm amazed that Eddy survived that flower.

Whatever your argument about MM now, don't be using that ridiculous "decision" to back you up. It makes you look like dills.

I have no faith we know how to rebuild through the draft or any manner. I agree that once Betts was gone we should have taken the pick instead of getting Daisy and handing The Pies another 1st round pick. We would have gotten better value out of Bernie Vince.

Our time has past, we got Judd and thought everything would just happen, we let go Jacobs, use pick 12 on McLean, god it gets depressing...... The recruiting killed us, Wayne Hughes was such a spud, then we get Mick, who gets Daisy and here we are again.... Shit!!

It's all MM's fault.
He's the one who is lazy
He's the one who can't stick tackles
He's the one who misses targets constantly
He's the one who has refuses to work hard for 4 qtrs week in week out
He's the one who assembled this list of shit stains over a 5 year period
He's the one who knew he was leaving the Club all of last year, and said nothing despite players, supporters and The Coach wanting him to stay.

The way some people are carrying on, you'd think we had a super list of talented, ultra skilled guns that MM took and turned into the duds a lot if them are.
It's his fault for everything!!!

yep sacked for winning a flag and then playing off in a GF.
they havent repeated since mind u....

our problems have more to do with what we have been doing than mm.

mick might not be the best coach we could have got under the circumstaces... but alan richardson wasnt either

we were in nowhere land...

no matter who our coach was.. with this list and this management were doomed and so would hve that coach been

How many points did Franklin kick?

Nice pick up if you've got the salary cap space for it.

How many more ways do you think you can say this?

Tonight is more about us than Sydney.

We lost to Melbourne and GWS this year and you want to blame the COLA?

I just love the way people use those little laughing faces in lieu of logic. They mean so much to the sender and so little to the intended target. Because they were created for people who need them.
Sorry, I thought this was a Sydney/Carlton post game thread.
I commented at the tome on the Melbourne and GS threads. If you can be bothered looking you'd see that.
If you want to exclude Sydney from the Carlton vs Sydney post game thread, perhaps you should go to the Carlton shit recruiting thread or the carlton shit coaching thread or the Carlton shit committee thread.
Don't pretend Sydney doesn't exist.
Don't pretend they aren't one game clear on top.
Don't pretend they picked up Franklin for a million a year when they already had Tippett on $900k and even the FL had to conduct an investigation into their TPP, which resulted in their changing the cola under pressure from the other clubs..
Don't pretend the AFL isn't artificially controlling this market to make sure Sydney TVs are turned on.
Don't pretend the other clubs haven't screamed blue murder and finally had the cola scrapped despite the AFL kicking and screaming and saying they will keep it but in another form and administered by them
Don't pretend that the cost of living isn't higher in Perth than in Sydney and yet the two WA based clubs get no assistance at all. NOT ONE CENT!

OK, we have recruited badly.
We haven't had any gun father/sons of late
We have had a shit boys club committee
Malthouse is a has been and we should have kept ratten or found someone else. Richardson was being bandied about a lot but he looks like being a good assistant coach and nothing more.
I concede all that but you can't just take money out of the equation.
Our glory years were before the cap when money wasn't an issue. So we won and we won. Then Brisbane, now Sydney and soon GWS and the Suns will be dong it. Winning, that is.
Hawthorn is the only club to buck this trend. Why? because they had good recruiting and behind the scenes staff from kennett down and because players who want to change clubs want to play there. But even Hawthorn with all its might and culture won't beat Sydney.
Why?
Because Sydney was able to just go out and buy the best player in the competition from them. That was after going out the year before and buying the second best forward in the competition on massive money. Hawthorn would have kept Franklin had they been able to match the offer but they couldn't.

The COLA was never intended to be an addendum to the TPP. So why is it? Because Sydney has allowed it to be and so has the AFL. Until 2016. The Swans just put 9 on to every player's salar and call it a COLA adjustment. So Buddy gets a cool 100k extra. Tippett gets a cool 90k extra. Why does someone on 900k a year need a cost of living leg up? There are people iving in Sydney who earn less than that aren't there?
It's a joke.
The other clubs think it's a joke and have finally pressured the AFL into doing something.
You, however, don't think it is an issue.

The only one marching in step.

So what exactly are you trying to say...?

There is only one club individual that has been deflecting and scapegoating in the media recently - can you guess who it is?

What a sad shadow of a once great club we are. Can't see much hope for the near future. So many wrong decisions over the last decade. Would we be a better team with Betts, Sauce and Laidler instead of Daisy, Warnock and...ummm....just pick anyone else. Have been watching my Blues for 35 years, i'm just about over it. Not just because we are useless on and off the field and a laughing stock of the AFL, i can't see any light at the end of the tunnel.....oh....and the way the game is played now....don't get me started....under 10s footy played by adults....sooooooo boring. And i'm sure we are all really looking forward to a GWS v Gold Coast grand final in the next few years, well done AFL, a massive conflict of interest to the detriment of the other clubs.....thanks for f&*%ing up football. Take a look at the decline in crowds. Rant over...thanks for reading.

I dont buy all this bs about the vic clubs being gone forever. The tpp system will see the same salary cap pressures for sydney, gc, gws rear its head again, making their superstars looking for other homes. Homes that are close to friends and family, homes that give them much more adulation than in sydney and brusbane. Just wait and see. The afl aimed to get the expansion sides up to speed asap and then will rely on the tpp system as well as free agency kick in. Mark my words.
