That comes into play. But so does lack of work-rate, goal-kicking, field-kicking, overhead ability. There's a bit more to being an elite midfielder than there was a decade ago.

..overhead marking ability, gotcha.. ..murphy isn't much chop for that, Gibbs actually is (very good in fact).. ..work rate, Gibbs would coast, Murphy one way runner, for the majority of both of their careers to date.. ..kicking ability is average, not as good as either of them unfortunately.. ....goal kicking fits in with average overall kicking.. .... ..what about urgency?, ability to withstand a tackle?, willingness to strongly run out every game?, contested ball winning ability?, clearance ability?, ground ball winning ability?..

..i agree that when you say kicking is average, very limited overhead marking ability,, that it does seem like he'd not have been the star he was, since those have always been the knock on him.. ..work rate though i think is more a recent thing, possibly tied in with playing hampered.. ..and also the very attacking shoot out style that was coached.. ..the will to push himself was monumental so if he can regain that, and full fitness, his dynamic ballistic playing style does elevate him above the sum of average skills..

Primary list only

Certain
Duigan

Shaky ground
Bootsma (despite contract)
Watson (despite contract)
Lucas
McLean
Temay
Mciness (that 2011 draft gets better and better by the day)
Maybe robbo.

My sense is that Rowe and White are safe if they keep up current form. Ellard seems to be best 22 also.

Scotland and Cachia from rookie list.

There's the problem - people actually think he's the best midfielder at Carlton. The board probably think it too. Shit - Ruffy Germinder probably only heard of him for the first time during last years' elimination final.

I'm sorry but that's total shit. I have it on good authority that Ruffy had his chef ask for Judd's chicken wing recipe a couple of years ago. He knew of him in 2012.

right now hes a great clearance machine.. or was.. we dont even know what hes going to be like now
but he certainly lacks versatility.... what type of role model is he for menzel if hes playing in the forward line.. he doesnt lead and then double and triple lead.. he wont chase his man up the field.. its rather pathetic

yeah he has that attitude that he doesnt need to do those things.. because hes so good at what HE does..
terrible kick for goal.. and yeah cant mark...
not really the modern day type... ablett and others are pretty deadly with their disposal and goal kicking
watch bartel when he has to go forward and kick a goal or two.. then u can swing him across half back where he WILL stand in the hole... and he will create.. and yeah if you need him for a clearance hes there too.

same draft

Both Temay and Graham have been told to impoverish their offensive side to their game.

Cameron Giles is impressing plenty and could play a game or two the back end of the season.

I'd get rid of
Cachia
McLean
Mcinnes

Retire
Scotland
Carrazzo

Bootsma has had his papers stamped and will never don the navy blue jumper again because of his outburst towards Mick.

GAWN:

Scotland
Duigan
Ellard
Cachia
Temay
Bootsma
McInnes

Lucas and Watson on shaky ground.

Thought their offensive side was impoverished enough already.

Remarkably accurate methinks. Don't be surprised if a few of these are given games just in case they have some currency. Odds are they don't.

Who'd have thought two players would be too defensive to get a game for us when the rest of our seniors are one way down hill skiers.

Great news about Gilesy. Loved him since I saw his highlights before the draft.

What's Andy Mac done wrong to be on the chopping block?

Always thought once he got his confidence back post ACL he would be back to the player we saw in the beginning.

With Graham, it's more about where he gets his disposals.
He spends too much time behind the ball getting cheapies. It slows play down and allows the opposition to set their zone.
Its good to see players are getting feedback on their deficiencies.

No wonder Nick Stevens is such a big wrap.

hahaha yes ppw

and he cant fly too high

he has the basic skillset required but again totally unathletic in my opinion...
lazy footballers.. and hes not i dont think
and
unathletic footballers try to cut corners to stay in the game.. unfortunately the game is becoming cuch u cant do that anymore...

I noticed the contract status post is out of date.

Any ideas on the status of Lucas?
Cachia?
I would think they are both on shaky ground if they don't have a 2015 contract.

Rowe and White will be safe.

Not sure about Graham.... might depend on Mick's opinion.

Temay?
If he doesn't get a game I'd assume he's gone.

Robinson will be shopped around I think.
If they can't find a buyer he might be a tough call to cut.

Any chance of trading Garlett for a fair price?
