Agree with your comment about Metricon. Great place to watch the game, and the whole place has an excellent atmosphere. The amount of young kids at the game indicates to me that the Suns are going to be a success off the field as well as on.

A nice touch was how they have a supporter raise the club's flag just before the start of the game. They're building some traditions that bind supporters together.

I was also surprised the players didn't go to the crowd, as there was a large number of Carlton supporters there.

A great day, although it did mean not being able to check the Essendon** thread, which took the gloss off the occasion.

There's also a good spirit amongst the GC supporters, which I'd imagine is a different story to other interstate supporters. They're not yet at the stage where they're invested in rivalries and hatred of other clubs and players, and are just enjoying themselves. As the team begins to play for bigger stakes, this will probably change.

As for our boys, Acknowledging the supporters should be a given for any win, let alone interstate. Shows appreciation for the distance most will have travelled to see them (not to mention those who went up for last year's debacle). It's just another one of those little extra efforts our club seems to struggle with unless it's spelled out for them.

Nothing great about this performance other than getting the four points.

I can see why MM wants us to play wide ... we can't kick ... too many of our plays hang the ball too high and also very few can kick to advantage ... our short kicking is poor.

Too many of our players fall over in marking contest.

Could lip read MM when he gave Mitch a spray ... told him to get to the ball first.

I thought it was good to see Murph at least get a bit more of the ball today. Slowly he will find his mojo.

If you are happy to just make the eight then you will be thrilled by today.

Some of you just don't understand that if our foot and hand skills, decision making and tackling is off against teams like this, then you can forget getting those areas right against the top four teams.

We saw the premiers last night. Some of that was breathtaking, and really showed where we are at, and how far we need to improve. Need to trade smart in the next two years but also trade agressively and be prepared to give up a good player to get a better one (or two).

Those same "premiers" that we led for much of the night and arguably would have beaten had Murphy not broken his cheekbone before half-time...

Not saying we are better than them, I just don't see why we can't enjoy a decent interstate win without thinking that we have to place it into some sort of wider context.

Get Real everyone.
This was a great win against a good up and coming side who last week beat collingwood. The biggest negative was the shocking conversion rate. if we had have got value for all of our domination, we would have been up by 60+ at half time and the game would have been over.
The only other poor thing about the game was giving up 4 50m penalties in the first half.
I was very pleased with the win - our third in a row. looking forward to next week.
to the people who are all doom and gloom after coming away from a 7 goal interstate win - go and barrack for richmond! you are bringing me down.

I was happy with the win, but I identify with the overall mood that we are still decidedly average.

Thing is we now know it and aren't deluding ourselves any longer, and until we see something out of the ordinary, everything will seem fairly meh.

How long have the players been telling the cameraman he's not welcome to film from the middle of the song? Noticed it the last two weeks.

Couldn't believe how many marks were dropped inside 50.
Still many players who show something in a week or in a half and then don't - this week it was Rowe after 2 encouraging performances.
Still, I keep seeing incremental improvements each game (with two glaring exceptions this year).
Needed the percentage boost too.

Thought Robinson's positives outweighed his negatives today, however often it's the other way around.

Kreuzer dominant in the ruck, as you'd expected against a weakened division.

Curnow good on Ablett - he didn't really chop us up.

Very poor in terms of marking inside 50 - need to prioritise a key forward with our first pick at the draft.

Really don't have the quality of tall forwards required.

It has and will prevent this team from going all the way.

Jamison not bad one on one but once again very poor decision making, very poor awareness.

Are you serious????

If you're expecting the draft to save our KPP soul then youre obviously not expecting a flag for five years

Jamison and Carrazzo as much as gifted GC about 5 of their first 6 goals. Jamison has been downright deplorable of late

A 43 point win when so many 'experienced ' men of the game picked us to lose is massive.

The fact it should have been more with greater accuracy in front of goal is an added silent victory for mind.

This is an away win against a side that beat collingwood last week.

Up the mighties!

Team missing their CHF (Lynch), FB (Thompson), ruck (Smith), lost another ruck early (NIcholls), Prestia (top 5 in the B&F atm), Swallow

Should have won by 9-12 goals but lack of quality key forward and poor conversion hurt us.

Again are you serious?

A quality key fwd??

Hendo bagged 4.

What we lack is a quality second ruck/fwd

We have a quality key fwd mate in fact we have two but ones injured a lot

It's good to get the points but that win was nothing to write home about.

I got the impression that Gibbs was sent back to quell Brown's influence in the second half which I think was a big tick.

Gibbs is deployed down back bec our defense is rubbish , simple as that

..he's currently injured, but i reckon hammer as 2nd ruck/fwd is still a chance, but only if Hendo plays as KPF leader..

WTF??

He was terrible

Gifted GC at least 2 goals in the first half. He and Jamison kept GC in the game in the first half

He is a shadow of the player he was 12-24 months ago and I'm not sure it's all down to injury

Here's a telegram - we have too many unskilled players. Carrazzo, Jamison, Lucas, Robinson, Armfield, Rowe, Hampson, Duigan, the list goes on.

Today proved we cant afford to trade an amigo bec they represent what few skilled players we have

We would have won by 80-100 had Jamison and Carrazzo not given GC 90% of their first half goals on a platter

We are at least two good off seasons from having a top 4 list and that's being optimistic

Hampson is not the answer neither is Rowe nor Cas nor 206 nor Mitch

We're giving it a crack with a middle of the road list.

Enjoy the wins when they come, try to suffer the losses against the best sides, count down the days until ASADA reams Essendon**, enjoy the first week of finals when we finish ninth, and then hang on to your hats during trade and draft time.

That's 2013 from here.

Finally someone who knows what they're talking about

Here's what we need ..

A good second ruck/fwd

A good tall defender who unlike Jamison has skill and can play on gorillas

At least two quality big bodied mids

A quality small defender ...in fact make that 4-5 quality defenders

Then we can talk turkey

Watched game on fox footy and the commentators were shocking. Thought it was the Gary Ablett show apart from that didn't think we would get beat although the umpires tried hard to give the game to GC.
In the end a win is a win.

..i think if hammer need only be a deep fp ruck/fwd, he'd be decent.. .thing is, we've tried using him as a kpf mostly, with 2nd ruck duty.. ..and he's no good as a key fwd.. ..but with a real leader kpf like hendo, he'd be much better..

Yes I wondered what was going on with that, Mitch quite deliberately pushed the cameraman out of the circle just before they started singing....

About a year now. Used to be ridiculous amounts of cameras in there and took away the team sense of joy imo.
