I AM CARLTON Apron (Adult Members Only).
I AM CARLTON Lunch Box (Junior Members only).
and still have to pay the ticket price to go to carlton games here in WA (if lucky enough to be actually able to secure one)
and being in WA or even other states far away from melbourne - how many people that these memberships are so called designed for - get to 5 games in melbourne?
Same in Adelaide which is why I just take out the $90 3 game membership as I get the exact same value for $40 less, sans apron. My main reason for the membership is priority access to finals for Wk 1-3. I have more scarves than my wife has pairs of shoes, and the hats I just give to the old man.
For my son we just take the Captain Carlton membership. He loves it, until he gets letters inviting him to go to junior football clinics in Melbourne.
I really cant be bothered ranting about how the club has missed/is missing an opportunity to make this club the biggest Australia wide due to it's National appeal. Liam started the charge back in around 2002, and at least then I had more time to make the effort.
John DeRango who was the membership manager at the time at least took the time to ring me after I expressed my disappointment that a membership think group that was put together by the club included no interstate input, but at times I felt like I knew more about the membership packages for interstate supporters than he did.
If you drive around Adelaide you see more Carlton paraphernalia then any of the other clubs combined (bar Port, AFC), yet how many are members I wonder? At Power games we almost outnumber the other mob.
I worry that once the pre 1990 Blues fans in Adelaide start fading out that the next generation here wont follow.
The club does a great job in holding an open training session when they play here giving the fans access to players for photos/autographs, but I'd love for them to say do a junior clinic for all kids to attend. Bring boxes of stickers, hats, pencil cases, badges, lanyards, aprons and just bombard every kid with them no matter what team he supports. Kids are easily bribed!
The only other thing they do here is the pre-game function, but I've never attended as it's hardly attractive for my family of 4 at around $80 a head.
I must admit I haven't looked into other Melbourne clubs recently to see if they do things any better, just think we have the opportunity to lead the way in this area. I do know a mate of mine who is an SA based Bombers member and he tells me that he does have a) voting rights, and b) a RESERVED seat to any game here so I guess we are already behind based on that....
