Pies once had about 15% (best guess) more fans than us, now it's more like 20% plus. Membership has gone the same way.

Even the Tigers have 50,000 members and how long since they've played finals?

All teams play home games @ the G and 1 even playing lower ranking interstate teams in Tassie.....hmmmmm

Should have taken the G when it was offered to us before all those teams.
Once they locked themselves into contracts..... u cant break an egg and make it all good again now can you??

Some people thought the future was Princes Park...

Great post, Doc.
Agree 150%.
How do we get in touch with Harold?
This board has taken this club to where we are now, and in many ways have done a good job from where we were to where we are. However, they have failed in their duty in 2 areas. 1. we haven't built a sustainable business model. Mathieson's donation of a pub network is not a sustainable business model. It's a donation and a revenue stream that is diminishing like cigarettes. :smoking: 2. failed to groom a successor to the President. Any good business needs to have talent in the ranks (board level) to ensure fresh blood, ideas, and leadership is given the opportunity to enable the club keep innovating and growing.

Having Sticks as president is quite embarrassing and on par with Brayshaw at the Kangas. Not sure what he offers the club in his capacity as President. Cant recall one thing he has achieved apart from internal stability.

If you have had the opportunity to read Mitchell's articles in "The Age" you would be very impressed with his intellect and vision. Hope we target him because he will bring more to the table than just his wealth. Would go as far as to rate the acquisition of his services more important to the clubs fortunes than landing a big name coach.

Conundrum

I'm sure Mitchell has much to offer but I wouldn't use his Age articles as evidence of his intellect.

"Louise says..."

Truly awful.

Anyhow - Sticks has done nothing wrong so far. All he has to do is get us out of hell and he's ticked another box.
Can't agree with all the resentment towards him currently.

Geelong is another city surrey... you might as well bring up West Coast and their ground.

Carlton is a suburb of melbourne surry not another city..... i know its hard for you to get your head around that.. but its true.. i speak the truth.....

You should try to imagine why a labour govt would give millions to a regional city for their footy team.... and not to us surrey.

you know that debt we have????

alot has to do with us trying to stay at a ground which was surplus in the afl's plans.. but we thought it was a good idea...

plus it looks like shit.. so alone surrey.. we would have to find another 40 or 60 mill.. to re do it...just for 35,000 people surrey..

and the contract with the afl had expired surrey.. which in fact meant we wouldnt have been fixtured to any of those games at home in our brand spanking $60 million min in debt 35.000 capacity with no parking stadium.

so for me i always get a giggle at the workings of a mind that doesnt get this...

Geelong is one city and the state govt has a responsibility it has some events.... car lton is a suburb in melbourne.....

no money

must find its own money to develop

plus must ignore afl fixturing and create its own fixtures away from the afl to play gaes there

i know its complicated.......

I really shouldn't bite ..... but flower me I can't help myself!
Richard Pratt was better than a PREMIER. The only problem was that we had Elliott out the door, Smorgen incharge and then Collo directing us to HELL. Like I said not worth it because next will be heading down the "tanking & drafting no.1" picks road for "premiership glory" ..... :gift:

Nobody here was talking about this stuff in round 3.

Get a better candidate who actually wants the gig and make a swap. Its simple. If the better candidate is 'that good' Sticks will no doubt step aside. If its not conclusive that the better candidate is actually better then he/she will have to prove it by taking on Sticks. If this guy/gal isn't good enough to manage that then he/she is not the right person for the role.

Simple scenario really.

Harold and I work on the same street in Sth Melbourne...but I'm never in the office before 8.30...I suspect Harold is there from 7 at the latest. But I presume when you said 'we' you meant the club. To be honest, it's a tall order. Sticks would have to announce that he's stepping down. I don't see how Gleeson is still there. I understand the argument of continuity, but there's a few on that board who have continued for a little too long.

As long as there is no heavy weight interested in taking over, this discussion, while interesting, is futile.

Reminds me that TC was really interesting when the Club was in deep poo and we had a Board that leaked more than a sieve. There was a lot of good "mail" on this site. One thing the club is good at atm is to keep things in-house. Really difficult gauge whats going on and we are often just guessing.
