I can't believe the level of WOWSERism relating to pokies.

It became crazy because people read it and completely misinterpreted it. I'm not anti-pokies...the thread wasn't designed to be about that if you read my first post. I've said all I have to say - if you can't understand where i'm coming from, that's not my problem... the only thing I'd change is the thread title which was wrong. Sad that this site can no longer handle an intelligent level of debate and that dane has decided every post from me is negative. The club is not immune to criticism from its supporters. Never has been, never will be.

Neither can I.

What about all the fat !@#$%& that eat Mars Bars?

Or the lazy shits that drive Hyundais instead of walking or catching public transport?

If you looked at all our sponsors you could find enough reasons to condemn them as the poisoned chalice....

Both of those examples are more dramatically addressed by both government and private industry.

Well in reality it was just another thinly veiled attack on the Club by your fine self.

You're wrong dane....that's just how you've interpreted it. But because I have disagreed with the club on certain issues before, you think everything I post is an 'attack'. And you have made it known before that you are against anyone openly criticizing the club...I hate to tell you this dane - but that's the way entities with membership work. Thinly veiled personal attacks on me.

That I won't remember.

Just a note the NRL would not exist in its current format if not for pokie revenue
But the Leagues clubs have gone beyond propping up the footy side to doing heaps for communities and junior development

If carlton could create a penrith panthers like club they would be well on their way (mind you they expanded so much they are in big financial trouble at the moment)

What percentage of pokie money goes into funding junior sport and community development?

And isn't Panthers in a world of hurt at the moment?

Kk there is no doubt the clubs put a lot back into the community
Big clubs have huge junior leagues as well soccer
Most clubs have various social groups like fishing bowling and golf or even darts
They are not all bad

And i did mention the panthers were going bad but it has been mainly due to them buying non profitable country clubs thinking that getting their pokie license would be benefical
They were booming until they went on this buying spree they have a new management team now that are turing things around

I wasn't attacking the clubs per se, they were genuine questions. I have no doubt that the clubs do put back into the community. But how best to do that without creating an unpleasant bond between the community clubs and junior sport which then enlists the next generation to be the next lot of cash cows is the big question.

Unbelievable. I feel for the men running our club sometimes. They just can't win.

I'm recalling a recent thread relating to whether people "felt a part of the club": if you believe you are then you have a right (or responsibility?) to have some input or opinion into the decisions, brand and actions of the club, because in some way you share that representation. If "I Am Carlton" I want to know what Carlton is really about.
In this context people have a right to raise this for discussion.
And we all have a responsibility to play the ball, not the poster.
