Contrary to most, it wasn't the forward line that worried me.

It was the absolute woeful ball movement along the ground.

Same old same old chip, chip wide, hug boundary, kick back 30 metres, switch play to the other boundary, bomb long to the forward 50

Repeat.

Repeat some more

I was mightily concerned when Riley commented during the pre-season that we won't bring the ball down the centre as its very easy to get rebounded against and looking tonight it showed. Way way too defensive.

@#$%&! frustrating :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Go down the @#$%&! centre, its not hard!

Yeah Nab cup blah blah blah, but we've had these same problems for over 2 years now.

I can't believe some of you. Our forward line wasn't the problem tonight, delivery of the footy into the forward line was. How many times did we see the footy miss the forward by being kicked either too wide, over the heads, too short, kicked high into a pack for hope or kicked to the backman's advantage?

obviously not a great game by any standard. Am a little dissapointed to see so many having a crack at fish. Did pretty well early got a bit of the ball and presented well up the ground. Then got injured and subbed off. Really difficult to get a possesion on the pine. My main concern is we have spent the best part of the past 6 years dreafting and trading for mid-fielders and then wonder why we have no forward structure after trading Fev. It will take some time to get things right hopefully we can get 6 out of our 20 midfielders working well together.

Swans/Roos gameplan didnt look much different from ours. It was a scrapfest. They were a tad bit cleaner and nailed some nice goals that got them over the line which didnt seem to bother us much.

Big calls by Synbad and Eddies and the Cruisers after a scrappy first Nab cup game of the year. Up there with those writing off Kreuser and Henda as forwards after that one game.

so sydney without a forward line.. no backline and no midfield... have the same gameplan as us.. only they do it better???

thats what youre saying right????

actually they have their own gameplan.. wee just dont have one... thats why theyre better at it than we are.. ours looks like their organised scrap fest.. just that ours is a disoraganised scrap fest....

tell me what you saw today.. from those closed training sessions???

was it the kick across the full back line to jacobs the quarterback???

you must have noticed that tactic... right???

I have never been to a closed session. They are closed so i dont go.

I saw a scrapfest tonight. Both teams doing whatever it took to hold posession. Looked like both teams were working their way into the year. The swans wanted it more. We didnt want it at all. We even helped them rundown the clock. They are better at scrappy games because thats what they do correct. So we did well to match them??

I did see the ball go across to jacobs. I noticed he was peeved that noone ran passed for the dish off. Quarterback?? dont start me on that phrase in AFL.

Looking for a gameplan tonight once your saw the team and the way it lined up is lol material. Clearly both teams were just out there to get their hands on the leather and lay a few tackles for the first time for the season.

You will be on about Ratten no matter what he does because he played in the horrible 95 GF team. I understand you have an issue with that and accept we are not going to hear the end of it but making big calls after tonight is jumping the gun a bit.

you play as you train.. you train for what u wanna do...

so we have been training for wahat we saw...

sydney arent a great team.... and they have made a few changes....

but theyre good at what they do...

were good at what we do too.... being clueless....!

QFT. Midfield didn't get out of second gear.
If you think this is bad, you should read the comments of the geniuses on facebook. dear god. i didn't know we had supporters from such a shallow gene pool.

Didn't get to watch the game live tonight - but have taped it. Is it worth me setting aside the necessary 2 hours to sit down & press play?

I must admit Megaman, the thought did cross my mind watching some of the delivery into the f50 tonight.

Hate to say it , but I agree with Mr Negative (Synbad)
That was woeful.
And you know, the thing I really hated about the whole match was the fact that no one got my heart pumping. Fev always did cos he could change a game. Apart from Yarran ( who showed a lot but didn't deliver) there was just emptiness- a bit like watching Sydney each week. If we do win some games, I really don't want to win 'ugly'. I'd actually prefer to lose and have some fun. I've always gone to the footy to enjoy. If I want boredom I'll become an accountant.

im not negative... im just a realist...

hey... and remember... Roos had to do without half a forward line.. Hall... OKeefe and Olaughlan... and he found himself a guy we could have done with.., if Ratts cant use his brain to work out how to get through lines of defence.. he should have gone for a guy like Jetta.. who can run through them and put them on the backfoot to cause havoc

Relax Synbad- only called you negative cos of your many priors.
Your points are all valid.
That perfomance tonight reminded me of Carlton circa 2004.
Unacceptable.
All those who wanted Fev out.........leave the room now

Synbad is spot on - Ratten will be exposed this year without Fevola.

Then at some point - it will be a hard decision for the class of 95 to have to make.

Whether this point is at the end of 2010 or 2011 - the end of his contract - is undetermined.

But as hard as it might be for friends and colleagues - it will not be so hard for others who will have endured a pretty average season (or two).

It is the old argument "everyone disgrees with me, but I am realist". There is nothing real about it. You think you apply the truth and so does everyone else therefore everyone is a realist.

I am not having a go at you but everyone on this site believe they are realists so to use that aurgement means nothing.

With Ratts and the game plan....I am happy to judge him at round 5. All games a winnable and should be won. If we are 4 and 1 OR 3 and 2 then pass but if not we are totally screwed. And I am a realist
