Doing a search I found that on 5/2/09, we had 25,011.

We appear to be down 1,473 on last year.

Well as I say, a club cannot have that much bad publicity over the off-season and not expect to take a cut in regard to membership numbers. I think given the off-field incidents, 1400 less isn't as bad as it could be. We're still in the ball park from our record breaking year last year.

Yet, with all the bad and ongoing negative press, and cheap shots from News Ltd diabetes cases masquerading as journalists, our club did little to nothing to counter that and instill a sense of pride in supporters and hope in prospectivemembers, unlike some clubs, who get the red carpet laid down for them around each corner.

It could have been so easy......

Gonna ring up the AFL membership department to have a slice in the morning. Haven't sent me out my membership yet and I renewed nearly 4 weeks ago. The reason I renewed so early was so I could have it before the NAB Cup starts and before Family Day so I gain entry for nothing. They also owe me a cheque for 160 bucks too.

Not much point, they'll just say you should have it this week. Even for people who have automatic renewals everyone is meant to get their cards this week

The thing is nck, just yesterday I got an email saying that it had been processed and I should wait up to 15 working days for delivery. This is the second email of the kind that I have got. On the 29th of January I got one but it said it had been processed but to allow 10 working days for delivery. Even processing it on the 29th was pushing it because I'd renewed much earlier than that and even forked out extra money that I need to ensure everything could be done early. This is bullshit, I'll still ring up to enquire about that second email I got.

Try ringing up to renew your membership...

options on the phone, then finally 'hold the line to speak to an operator'. Goes straight to voicemail then no one calls you back.

Pox.

The Pies’ membership figure has spiked by 15,000 compared to this time last year, with more than 43,000 people signed up for 2010.

The Hawks opened renewals for category one members three weeks earlier this year and have also enjoyed a surge in the number of supporters buying memberships.

The club has signed 41,686 members, which already exceeds the total number of members recorded in the premiership year of 2008.

don't shoot me down, but a certain trade may have a little bit to do with the figures. this time last year we were the next BIG thing. This year (if you read the press) we're sinking faster than the Titanic. Last year we were sexy. This year we're poison.

I renewed mid december and got my card about 4 weeks ago and got my membership pack today.

As I said, it could be much, much worse in terms of our membership numbers suffering. We're still around the mark which is great news, and yes, the Fevola trade contributes to it, along with the off-field misterbeaners to have taken place. Given the turmoil from October-December, the club should expect a little bit of shortfall in membership numbers. Proud to say that I renewed my membership for a 13th straight year, even after what has happened in the last few months. Pity that some people don't sign up because of off-field incidents, although there could be other reasons like they can't afford it, and so on. I still think we'll be around the 40k mark come closing time.

After the NAB game against the Swans in Sydney...after we have demolished them...watch the change in tone when the media refer to Carlton.

I truly believe the players are champing at the bit, and they will more than match the Swans' desire to win the game. We have Judd and Warnock playing. The return of Jamison and Bower fit again. etc etc :fight:

Why would Carlton end 9-10? Oh ah because Essendon* are a betta team....yeah right. :garthp:

The membership will spike even with Judd suspended because everyone will find out how good our bottom 6 are even with Judd missing and Fev and Stevo gone and maybe Waite and Murphy rested or preserved.

I reckon we'd have 50,000 members if we too had 1 game memberships like the Hawks do...or maybe Collingwood, or was it both.

Saw in the window of the gift shop today that membership numbers are now over 25,000. I can't confirm an exact figure, but I saw we've broken the 25k mark. The website hasn't published it yet.

Hawthorn currently has 42k members while we only have 25k, despite us having a significantly larger supporter base.
I believe this is primarily due to the excessive cost of a Carlton membership. A Hawthorn 11 game reserved seat membership costs $248. The Carlton equivalent costs $349. How can such a large discrepancy be justified?

Check out the Hawthorn membership website, it's much clearer and better designed than ours http://membership.hawthornfc.com.au/
Our marketing department needs to get its act together.

UPDATE: 25,534 is where we currently sit. No complaints from me.

You just have to look at the AFL membership numbers to get a fair idea of how some of the Victorian clubs are travelling. Hawthorn can't screw around with these numbers.

Collingwood- 9415
Carlton- 5729
Essendon- 5434
Richmond- 3718

Hawthorn- 2745

We need to decide whether we want to go down a route where we have lower tiers of membership available than we do now, and possibly lower prices to attract a larger number of members.

I guess the important question is whether the revenue or membership number is more important. It's probably not as cut and dried as it seems
