He tried his arse off today and does most games but its still was way below standard. If we are accepting of this we may as well pack up shop now

rubbish

more than half the players in the league would have been satisfied with a performance like JRs today

Exactly Grrro...

into the 2nd quarter (i think it was) the radio was saying Judd had 11 possessions with 8 inneffective...

So numbers are not always the be-all...

JR had a decent game today...there were many in the line behind him IMHO.

You cant question his effort today, he always gives it his everything.

His decision making needs to be addressed. He can run, find the ball, has pace is a good size but his thought process is a major concern. He gets this right and he could be a solid contributor. Its a confidence thing with JR, he is a genuine grump though and once he starts loving his football he'll be fine..... i hope!

Maybe a fair point Melgs..but I think this part of his game is improving...it was only a couple of times today that his decision was the wrong one to make.

Can still improve on execution...but who can't? Juddy even had a bad day in this regard.

No doubt JR has shown some improvement.

No doubt he couldn't have gone much lower.

Keep improving JR.

He has close to the best attitude in the entire team, and for that reason I can't be angry. But I can be frustrated! Like he said, when he has confidence and believes he belongs, he will be a handy contributor.

I hope it all comes together for both he and Hartts.

REALLY impressed with his game today, close to his best. Good day for this article to come out, as I think it sums things up pretty well.

Russell, 22, took a stand the previous week after finding himself playing for Northern Bullants in a curtain-raiser before the Geelong-Port Adelaide game at Skilled Stadium, starting at 9.40am.

"I just thought to myself, 'This is not where I want to be'," he said.

"When I got back the next week, I thought, 'I've got my chance, I'm not going to let go. Just give it a crack'. As Ratts would say, pull out the one wood and have a crack.

I think the run in the 2's did him a world of good, especially now knowing that his place in the team is not a foregone conclusion. Now let's hope that certain other players in the same boat make the same realisation, and that JR can present these sorts of results against the better teams.

Here here my thoughts exactly .... needs to happen to a couple of other passengers .. hopefully they too can come back with the same sort of realisation Russle had ...

Finally Ratts seems to be making the tough calls instead of prancing around hoping people take the opportunity afforded to them and come good.

Did not see yesterdays game just listened on the radio ... but saw highlights of the first goal .. loved Russles moves to dish off to Fisher for the first of the afternoon.

If anyone uses stats figures to validate how good they think a player played, they've got rocks in their head.

I couldn't give a rats arse if a player racks up possessions, as A it's what they do to get them, B where they get them & C what becomes of them.

Everyone goes on about Yablett & his sequence of 40+ possies. Who cares. Half of 'em where cheapies in the back half.

No point getting 30 plus if you turn most of them over. Better getting 15 possies and having a 95% effectiveness rating....

Continues to improve - anyone think his excellent tackle and goal last week was the turning point against Freo ?

Realises his goal kicking wasnt good last year and has obviously worked on it - was good yesterday and kept presenting - lead up player from second kick out of defence - good pace and evasive skills - need to work on decision making but easily in our best 22 for his versatility

qft

we all remember Carrazzo's 40-odd last year where he didn't even have close to a good game

Agree and even the 15 at 95% could mean nothing if they were all soft sideway options that lacked penetration and slowed the team up.

Russell has been playing well though. Good on him too. He could become a very handy weapon for us in the not to distant future.

Talk about a prime example of what goes on between the ears counting for 90% of what actually happens. Russell is that type of footballer

I think I deserve a big thanks for creating this thread - and spurring the boy to put in a decent performance.

Shouldn't this quote be in hundreds of other threads?! Get to work, KK...

...oh, and - keeping in mind that I created this topic just because (first thread I've ever created that could be remotely considered shitcanning) - isn't it funny how a player throws in two decent performances in a row, and the TC chorus jumps up and cries 'Ha! We were right! Ha! Extend his contract! (etc.)'...

Sure credit where it is due, but two good games in a row doe not a champion make. If he continues playing this brand of football until the end of the year - I'll get off the fence and jump on the bandwagon.

Still - interesting how I've created so many different threads, about so many different topics... the only one that posters have really responded to is the one about JR.

Just remember that it took a lot of 'mere critics' to 'do' a job on Smorgon on that fateful FRIDAY! which paved the way for change.

JR's not there yet, but thelast few weeks give hope.
