Very pleased to win but honestly think we were lucky on a couple of fronts.....

1. Voss is shit, Bradshaw would have destroyed us in tandem with Brown, what a fool for putting him on Fev initially.

2. Umpires were pretty kind to us, doesn't happen often so I'm not exactly complaining

Very happy with Browne though, thought him and AJ were great. In time Garlett will learn what the best option is (I hope).

Kreuzer handballing to a running Hampson was great.

I think he always had to put Bradshaw there - but I'll agree with your interpretation for how long he left him there. That was akin to Ratts leaving Fev in the back for all of the Adelaide game.....
Bradshaw had a terrible night, and Brown wasn't much better, but his actual goal stats will look impressive tomorrow....

Brennan is the one that they should all be thankful Matthews' nursed - because at least two of his goals were things we only expect from the Motlops and Betts' of the world.... - the one he kicked where Jamo spoiled him, but he got up and snapped truly was phenomenal!

Especially that bit of play in the last quarter with only a few minutes to go. The ball was in our forward pocket and Garlett kicked the ball in mid air either trying to center it or kick a miraculous goal. Would have been better to let the ball go out of bounds and chew up a few more precious seconds.

That bit of play nearly gave me a heart attack! :yikes:

Are you kidding?? He nearly kicked it!

Would have had to play the percentage at that point. The risk was too great for the reward given the time remaining. If the ball went out on the full it would have given the Lions clean possession. With only a few minutes left, we had to hold the ball and hold it as far away from the Lions' F50 as possible.

Not blaming Garlett (his forward pressure was fantastic), it's just a matter of learning as you go along.

But...HE NEARLY KICKED IT! We'd be going absolutely ape-faeces had he kicked it a foot to the left and young Jeffrey would have a GOTY award to take away from his rookie season. We want our kids to have a go, and I couldn't be happier that he didn't stop trying and take the safe option.

I had a long walk around the ground from one wing to the other, and the song was going non-stop the entire walk just about.

The thing is that Fevola was obviously towelling Bradshaw up even in the first, but definitely by early into the second. There was no point leaving him on Fev after about 10mins into the second because he was getting beaten anyway.... McDonald didn't get beaten by that much worse and it cost them too much up forward

though having said that Brennan's goals in the second kept them in it and they all came from giving him space up forward.

"This is where it comes back to your parenting when your mum says, 'If you can’t say anything nice don’t say anything at all' and I fall into that category right now," Voss said.

"For me ... I know it’s pretty glaring, pretty obvious, people make their own opinions of it [and] obviously I’ve got to make sure I respect the system and go through the right channels."

I'd say there were a few "pretty glaring, pretty obvious" ones that Ratts may be calling the same people about, too.....
SHOULD have overrun us early in the 4th, and late in the 4th - and it wouldn't have mattered if the umpires were on each others' shoulders between the sticks when Fev was shooting for goal - we were the better team on the night and we always had enough to hold them out. When you're playing well enough to rope a dope them back into our forward 50 from the edge of their forward 50, they're going to lose.

Amazing that you see 'journalists' write rubbish like this:

Quote:
Looking agitated at being on the receiving end of a 16-8 free kick count, Voss bit his tongue when quizzed on the officiating.

Why should the free kick count be used to determine the quality of the umpiring? Are we meant to get an even free kick count every week?

Are the umpires just meant to pluck free kicks out of thin air to make the free kick count even?

If one team gets caught a lot and gets pinged for holding the ball then obviously they will have more frees against.

It isn't a very difficult concept to understand, yet we see highly paid people in the media (not just this article) referring to the free kick count.

Yes the umpiring was atrocious but for once was mainly on our side. I would prefer we not talk about it and detract from an excellent performance from our boys.

That said, started a thread about the poor treatment Fev received from the maggots last week ... a couple of them must have read it ... he finally seemed to get his due tonight. Looking forwrd to seeing the replay.

FEV, JUDD, AJ, BROWNE and the SMURF were awesome tonight, from my understanding no passengers tonight ... looking forward to the saints now ... I know that no one is crazy to bet against them ... BUT .... they r due .. so fingers crossed ... GO BLUES

PS Voss was such a girl in his press conference, sending him an apron in the mail

So rapt we won, worth staying up till 1:30am for  .
However, you'd think that when Channel 10 don't show the Sat arvo game and then delay the night game to a 10:45pm start, they could show some of the pre and post match stuff??!! I mean show the song at least!! They cut the telecast straight after the siren to put those @#$%&! infomercials on - it's not like I haven't seen them a billion times before, and no, I still do not want to buy any of the products

But still, GO BLUES!

We controlled the game for the first 3 quarters. We should have been 50 points up at 3 quarter time.

Still a much better effort.Best win of the season.
Great to see
Browne
Hampson
Armfield
Joseph
They have added something to the side

Ratten should role the dice this week and play Austin up forward
Put O'Hailpin down back

We had nobody at chf
Fisher is not up to it but it doesnt help havingonly one forward target
Austin could be the answer.
Cant believe he was dropped
I reckon Jam needs a rest.
His shoulder is stuffed

Best win for the season.

Not too fussed about the last quarter fade-out. You roll the dice a bit when you pick guys who have had the injury interruptions that Scotland, Carrazzo, and Grigg have had. Next week they will all run the game out better.

Joseph is absolutely awesome.

Hammer coming along very nicely too.

I was impressed with Hampson's run down the wing and also his contested mark in the forward line.

His marks have quality written all over them. If he was taking those marks regularly it would deflate the confidence of the opposition. He has the endurance to be a machine as well.

Maybe Hampson and Kreuzer can spend a bit more time on the ground (instead of alternating on bench)

They could stretch the opposition's less athletic ruck combos and also block the spaces at chb 5-10 minutes, as well as alternating 5-10 minute spells at full forward instead of going to the bench.
