We are where we should be given we have no genuine ruckman in the side, a CHF who can mark consistently, and a backline that even though it tries hard lacks height and a certain amount of aggression. Structure, discipline, and faith in each others ability in respect to the game plan takes time I guess. We are a long way away from being a cohesive well drilled unit but hopefully the nucleus of this side can stay fit and develop together in the seasons ahead.

Basically the same issues that we've been talking about for the past couple of years. We've invested in a ruckman, he's still injured and Sam Jacobs who was doing OK'isk is also injured. CHF has been a problem since Big Red's earlier years. Wouldn't you love a pack busting CHF like Earl Spalding? As for the backline ..... well that's been a work in progress since Ratts stopped playing.

Not every team has everything to be a superside.

A good side is one well coached to overcome defficiencies.

Not everyone can claim Judd and our midfield either..

Thats what happens with a salary cap and a draft.... plus a weak competition ...

Not too many complete sides.

BUT.. you can dtill drill so players know how to go about playing as best they can... and in a pattern that works.

Thats where we fail!!!

Yes, we fail and you have been telling us about it for years and nothings changed. However; you are only ever smug about it and rarely impassioned. Could a couple more mobile talls who can take a few contested marks hurt?

Same old Story.......

Fev injuries himself in the first 30 seconds and says " Sorry boys, i am out, Someone has to step up"

Cloke replies" Oh plz not me.... i can't do it "

Wiggins says " oh Jeez, i don't like to be in the spotlight... Wake me up when its half time"

Betts replies " Bugger it, i am not going to outmark two guys who are twice as tall as me "

Yarran says " well its my first game, i am just goona watch and see how it feels to be out there "

Waite says " you bastards, its always me who have to teach u how to play Forward, .. i can't do it all "

On reflection, I am not as angry or even disappointed like so many. I am just a bit sad. Sad that we are not quite "there" yet. Sad we have not enough depth up forward.

Funny how small things make a big difference when a team is not "quite there". Was just thinking if just we had 203 available from the start of the season and Walker - could have made all the difference in those 3 games we lost under 10 points.

Oh, well look at the Saints - they looked terrible not so long ago - dont think we need to turn the whole list - we just need to give it a wee bit more time.

So, we are 3-4 after Round 7. Worse than teams like Essendon*, Port and Brisbane who we would have expected to be comfortably ahead of and equal with Fremantle.

We were 3-4 after Round 7 last year.

Have we improved at all? If yes, how much?

This is truly deplorable and nowhere near good enough.

I am fuming.

Lets be very clear where we are and where we have come from.

Last few years we have won 4, 3, 4 and 10 games. Guys like Kruezer, Gibbs, Murphy, Yarran, Hampson, Bower, Jamison, Judd, Austin, Robinson are the nucleous of a side that we will build our team around.

Until we can get more contributors into the game we will struggle for consistent performances.

All in all it is frustrating but it is reality!

Build a side around Hampson? :screwy:

Gee I better restrain myself here cause Im pretty angry, but what the hell does everyone see in Hampson? He is SHITE

Can someone post the details of Ratten's press conference? Link not working for me.

threw out some stats trying to say we should have done better with that stat count - mostly inside 50s

said kruezer was excellent , praised armfield as well

kicked 3.11 in second half not good enough

gold coast no excuse - take the stats to any other ground and we probably would have lost too

got caught out a few times with kicks over the top of us for easy goals to freo

if we want to be a better or maturing side we have to win these games and we didnt

was asked about fev and needing him to dominate to win - said he kicked 8 last week and we lost and has kicked small amounts in our wins

said we handballed too much

So we should have won the game according to Ratts cos Fev didnt kick too many???

And also... did he say if we will be handballing as much next week???

once again it is the performance of Fevola that decides wether we win or lose ,
we have failed to recruit or develop another half decent forward target and until we do we are going to have disappointments like this

we cant keep relying on mr tempremental we have to get to the stage where Fevolas good perfomances are just the cream on the cake

still think we should try thornton forward - he gives us nothing down back

I really hope the media start putting the spotlight on Ratten as a coach this week, can't believe we extended his contract for another 2 years. What was the rush for to sign him up?

Ratts game plan is simple kick it to Fev and hope he kicks enough for us to win.

I think he should snap out of it and begin to get us to play a much more positive style of game.
Individually our defence plays ok.. as a group its struggles yeah???

Going forward its all on Fev... All roads lead to Fev.

Failing that...

....the ball gets bombed to noone.....

The crumbers are in the wrong spot, cos they dont know where the ball is coming.... its amazing to see this for 2 years running...

We go wide....wayyyyyy too much..... so then how do u straighten up from the boundary???

We overpossess too much especially in the back half of the ground...

We are way too static...

We have a CHF lead up player who is too slow for that role...

We seem to pick players on 'favourites' not form....

You can go on and on....

And just on the forward line.. of all the blokes who might be qualified for the forward coach role.. we have Lappin yeah???

... and that was based on what exactly??

Considering its been a massive defficiency... what was seen in Lappin as the man to fix a 'GAPE' in our structure???

We have had how many top 5 picks ? and yet we still seem unlikely to play finals.

Compare that to St Kilda who (dare i say it) have had less top 5 picks than us, don't have Judd and yet still make the finals. Even Essendon* seem destined to play finals and they have lost their ruckman for the season and fullback for a big chunk of it and one of their key midfielders has been out. Where did it all go wrong?

Unless we start playing quickly through the corridor and get rid of some of the chaff in the team this type of performance will continue...

Could some one please enlighten me to Cloke's role?
He is 3/quarters of a ruckman (leaves young Kreuzer to do main rucking role) and 3/4s of a forward (without speed and presence to have a true impact).

Maybe I have got something wrong and Cloke deserves more game time... please englighten me... please !!!

There goes the season.....time to play for draft picks!!!!

Apalling display, made me ashamed to be a member. Glad I didnt stump up the $$ to fly to the gold coast.

I hope they are putting in some water tanks as part of this stadium redevelopment because we have a team of blokes that like to drink their own bathwater.
