Poor decision, we should have played a near full strength side without Judd and Fev, tested ourselves against the best, had we won we would have had a proper dress rehearsal in the nab final, lose and rest the majority of ommissions in WA next week. This way we are going to get flogged, this is not good for players confidence, membership etc. To top it off we have to go to Bunbury next week to play on a cow paddock and risk injury because of it, with what Ratts has already said will be a full squad/rehearsal prior to R1.

Poor decision from the match committee and it will probably come back to hurt us next week in the beautiful town of Bunbury!

Not happy at all! Will be fuming if we cop an injury to a key player next week due to the poor conditions in the outback!

It's a great decision......this club has been pretty dumb in recent years so good to see that finally some sense is back at the club! Regarding next week.......why would we have to risk any of the stars again anyway? Plus TD is no MCG that's for sure and we have been lucky so far to come out of it without any major injuries.

great decision - will be interesting to see how our forwards do in the absence of our two most dangerous forwards (fev/waite).

If we manage to find 1-2 extra players from the game who are able to step up whilst the heat is on, then we will have done well out of the game.

I can remember in 1994 finals when Geelong had a few of their stars out and we were overwhelming favourites and got smacked.

Us against Essendon*, we had a few stars out and we beat them.

Geelong are $1.12 favourites at the moment and could be thinking just show up and we will win compared to our boys who would want to do their best against last years grand finalist, prime time in front of a big crowd.

If we didn't make these changes then the boys would have had 3 weeks in a row on the Eithad Stadium..

Hahahahahahaha.....Ratts is a son of a gun. Hahaha...I love the guy.

Boys, if you haven't figured out already, this is Ratts' ploy for a little bit of fun for the emergence of the new Navy Blues.

What Ratts is doing is creating a nostalgic feeling of the past few years. Make no mistake, this Saturday will be the LAST TIME the proud Navy Blues will ever be involved in a thrashing. LAST TIME. NEVER EVER.

A game that means nothing and zero premiership points. Live it up boys. We will never, ever, be given a hiding again.

Geelong may win by a mike but it will give them NO indication how we will fare against them with a full list. Nor will it give Richmond anything to study before round 1.
And it will give the fringe dwellers a chance to get selected for round 1.
They will doo their best as a team and we will all see who we have in the wings.
We need to see what life is like with no Fev anyway. Kreuzer should line up at FF with Gartlett
(just kidding) Garlett at his feet.
Who knows? Geelong taking risks with their gun players might backfire.
Bring it on.

Missing KP Mooney CHF
Missing KP Harley CHB
Missing HB Mackie Ball carrier
Missing midfielders , Bartel, Selwood, Enright
Missing ruckman Blake

There a lot of class missing from the Cats.

Tom Hawkins id a big mother flower.

I think we match up evenly. Great to have Kreuzer back.

Armmfield, Joseph and Russell can rotate tag Ablett.

Austin at CHB whilst Mooney is missing. Loneghan is monster size though. He can have a tsate forward (wishful thinking).

These kids have evolved over summer with a sense of purpose, a game plan and a bit of confidence in them selves, I can't see them losing the improvement just because they're playing for the Cats.

Sure we're missing 13 players from our 22, but I tell you, we have depth in class. This game is the game we find out where the next level are at the start of 2009, and regardless of the outcome, they will get better over the year. They wont be scarred from the experience. It's what they live for.

We should win by at least 19 points.

Whilst I am surprised to see Edwards, it would be great to see where he's at and if he's played as a leading FF.

Yarran 3, Garlett 3, Betts 3, Kreuzer 4, Fisher 2. Cloke 2, Wiggins 1, Stevens 1, Hadley 1; that should do the trick.

Good luck Jamo; you've got Tomahawk.

I think that we have got EVERYTHING out of the NAB cup that we wanted ................ Won 2 games meaning that, at worst, we will have to play 1 game on a country field thus minimised risk of injury. We have already tested a heap of kids out, and will see more in the next side. I would say players like Armfield, Anderson and Joseph should be told to follow some of the cat's star midfielders and learn from how they play. How often will these kids be given the chance just to play against star midfielders, with nothing to lose from the match, and take in how they go about their business.

Our core players have each been rested in 1 game. The main exceptions are Thornton, Cloke, Jamison, Stevens, Bower and Grigg. Stevens is out rd 1 so there is no real drama with him playing IMO, Cloke is fighting for a spot up forward and Thornton, Jamison, Bower and Grigg are key cogs in the backline and any time playing together is gold.

And isn't it normal to taper off professional athletes training leading up to the real sporting events ??? Get some match fitness into the players during the preseason (at least 2 games each) then taper off the training in the lead up to the event so fitness is maintained but fatigue is minimised ??? I remember hearing about how swimmers will train hard before a meet then taper off the training say 2 months before the meet to prevent fatigue, and build up intensity a couple of weeks before the meet so they are at peek performance when it counts. Sure AFL is different as its over a 26 (hopefully ........ lol) week period, but you want to at least be in your best possible shape for rd 1.

I reckon if you asked 100 people who won last years NAB Cup, maybe 50 would know the answer. If you asked those people who was runner up, you might get 30.

We are going to expose some our younger players to

1. Decent opposition
2. Playing in front of a crowd and on TV
3. Responsibility
4. and for some - leadership.

Much better to do that now than in Round 6.

And if we lose, we get to practice our travel routine, our fitness people get to practice their away from home recovery programme.

This scenario stretches so many people out of their comfort zone, which should make them better performers, better leaders etc

It's all good.

Scary thing is that 3 years ago that would have been about as good as we could have put on the field (plus Fev).

We've come a long way and still have a long way to go but at least now we have options to rest stars.

I'm loving this pre-season and the season proper is only going to get better.

In the never to be forgotten words of Big Kev.....I'M EXCITED!

Dwayne Russell total knob end.

Not content with bagging Carlton at every opportunity over the past 6 years - we won the mean nothing Pre-Season Cups in 2005 and 2007  and criticizing mercilessly for poor Home and Away performances - gives us a bagging for managing our senior list when we are clearly preparing and gearing up for the PREMIERSHIP POINTS on offer in Round 1.

Many many BOUQUETS to you Russell.

Cant wait to see Yarran play a full game and likewise Hadley.

Will watch with interst our back against some pretty big bodies.

I believe we'll be in it till about half time then the cats should pull away.

I think the cats will win but cant see them exerting themselves if they get out to a comfortable lead.

Cats by 30 points.

Garlett and Yarran to be the talking point with 3 goals each.

I go to every match. And I will go to every match in Melbourne. Have already bought tickets for Adelaide on May 23. Can't afford the rest.
Have been to the last two weeks. Have loved what I have seen.
I understand what we're doing but I fear that this is going to be lambs to the slaughter. Hope I'm wrong.

Good stuff Blues. If we win, great effort by the youngsters

If we lose, we get Kreuzer & Judd!

I don't care for that kind of approach. With the squad we've named, if we win by any less than five goals I will be guttered.

That said, I will be rapted if we get Kreuzer and Judd.

Look we'd all love Carlton to win but cmon...how can any of you honestly say that on paper the teams are 'evenly matched' or that we 'should' win?
Thats just ludicrous.
