judging from the messages I have been getting on our side, barnesy, your blokes could be anywhere from eastern europe to western australia... :banghead:

annual holidays and cheap airfares are the enemies of forum footy...

I have spoken to the guys, one (goal umpire from last time) is unlikely, but will confirm with me over the next couple of weeks if needed.
The tall guy Pete is keen but will check his work diary and confirm it next week.

I have also recruited a new player who is a gun, and we may be lucky enough to get an ex Carlton player lining up with us. If that is allowed? Let me know asap if not.

Cheers,

FF.

the levels of players acceptable is not a question that has ever, to my knowledge, come up before...

our dees best player plays amateurs and our least player plays rec rugby and last played footy in the under 9s...

one of our past players started training with a VFL club, and they refused to let him continue to turn out in these forum games, fearing injury...

we have only ever talked about players and past players in a coaching or helping role, although we haven't had one turn up yet...

I will email what we laughingly call our leadership group about this matter and get back to you guys as soon as I can...

rollo

Any mate is ok... the main goal is a carlton passion.

In the games conducted there has been enough of a mix to breed a healthy game. Naturally we want to keep that mix ensuring that all forum users have the opportunity to play in a fair and friendly (competitive) game.

It is important that if you have a mate who has committed to playing that we get their name so the list can be updated....

As long as there is that Carlton passion I think any level we just accept. It is unlikely that any outstanding player would play (as you described with that VFL player) fearing injury. If we have someone (or players) head and shoulders above the rest then I think that situation just needs to be managed appropriately.

We want the integrity of the game kept in tact, and that is a competitive game, played in a fair manner, inclusive of all levels of age and skill and never taking advantage of someone in a vulnerable situation.

Hope that is something we are all happy to work with....

Cheers

Barnesy

dunno, barnesy...

where would you draw the line ??

or should it be allowed to draw itself ??

I also wonder if an ex-AFL player would not be embarassed turning out in this sort of company ??

no official response from our side yet, just thinking aloud...

rollo

I wouldn't worry about an official response as such.

It is not something that we need to get bogged down with. We have played enough games to never see a player that far above anyone else, if it does arrive then we need to deal with it then.

I dare say even I may not know who it is until the day, lets just play it by ear.

If it turns out to be someone that good, then they can play down back or forward, and spend half the game on the bench.

We need to be reasonable no matter who it is, even leave it to umpires discretion on length of time on ground etc, would be happy with that.

I hear what you say, barnesy...

we do have the example of the saintsaitonal casey scorpion player, illsy...

he still plays, but seemingly with one eye on avoiding injury and the other on not shining too bright...

the line, as I said before, may draw itself...

and it's not an issue that can't be addressed, as you say, with goodwill and fair play on both sides...

I am just hoping for a game this time as good a spectacle as the first one...

Barnesy, Rollinson - have you both considered helping to resolve the Middle East conflict?

...very diplomatic you both are!

I had to postpone that until after the game on the 8th.

I fly out on Monday the 9th.

Then there's the global financial crisis, global warming.

They both wait until I secure the Blues their next flag.

If the ex AFL player does play I doubt he will go out on a mission to destroy (even if he was renowned for being a hard nut), he will more than likely take it easy, have a laugh with us, and sign a few autographs as it is a social match.

So lets all relaxe, and hope that we are lucky enough to have an experiance that we can one day share with our kids...etc.

I don't think PJ will be able to make it, he left me a msg saying he might be in Phillip Island for that weekend.

"If the ex AFL player does play..."

plan "A" will be to tag him with our (last played under 9s) hero...

plan "B" will be to get all our dees players in turn to approach him for autographs, so he will be busy signing when the ball comes his way... :sly:

plan "C" is cassified and I am prohibited from sharing it with you bluebuggers...

as for the middle east, the sooner that barnesy is dispatched there, the better IMO...

the duke wants to stay with his original club...

you guys can't have him, not ever...

sorry,

rollo

it's too quiet on here for my liking, only 2 an half weeks away and we only have 17 players if everyone (and there mates) who say they are in can actually make it (which seems a little doubful).

come on people!

we need more numbers, i don't want to have dees supporters playing for us and im sure they dont either.

hey guys,

can anyone tell me, what condition the ground was in when you played back in November?

i'm thinking i might ware some running shoes when i play rather than traditional footy boots.
