Have to say the Hawthorn supporters that have posted in this thread so far have been pretty measured.

I also reckon there's a lot of crying over spilt milk. So they double/triple teamed Fev, big deal. Fair dinkum, this is senior AFL football, not a mickey mouse exhibition game. I can't believe how many people wanted Fev to be "given" his 100th goal! The fact he kicked 7 goals in a half is pretty amazing. Had he nailed one of the three or four shots he had in the first quarter this thread may never have existed.

Our blokes would have done exactly the same thing if Buddy was still on 99 going into he last quarter. And you know what, if we did that, and we did stop him from kicking his 100th goal, there would have been a thread started on here proclaiming what good play that was.

Besides, who else, other than Fev would end a year on 99 goals. It suits the legend (and I use that term loosely) perfectly.

Chin up everyone, we've got 2009 to look forward to. :-D

I was with a Hawthorn mate at a pub on Saturday night. Before the game we both agreed it would awesome to see two great players reach the ton together and hoped that Clarkson would not flood for the entire game to allow him the chance.

My mate left half way through the last, but I reckon he'd be embarrassed by what his coach did.

Noboday owes Fev a thing, but to put 3-4 players on one man to stop him from achieving something so special is a disgrace.

......and for Bateman to be celebrating after the siren  .

I definitely agree having two forwards kicking their 100th in the same game would have been pretty damn cool. But c'mon, it's almost like a few of you didn't know Clarkson was a wanker before this match.

Our time will come. 8)

Yep and we all know what that asswipe of a bloke Clarkson DID DO in a mickey mouse exhibition game.

Effectively ended a player's career with a cheapshot king hit from behind - showing how much of a gutless lowlife coward this little turd is.

been a talking point at work

I love it

if this keeps up Clarko will have plonked 18 blokes on Fev who, while carrying an injury, kicked 'em from everywhere but was denied the last by the mega, mega flood, and by the extraordinary lengths Clarko went to to deny him.

go forth, spread the word

Fev come out of this bigger than ever and Clarko/Hawthorn will be the new dog of the sporting world:lol:

Fev's 99 will be long remembered after Buddy's ton. It could be a trivia question for the next 100 years

He's the old dog, DB. He's been a dog for 20 yeras.

I'm proud of the way Ratts and Fev have handled the wash up. Ratts had to make a point and I'm glad he did. Fev showed Dogson that he's bigger than that pea heart by going straight to Franklin to congratulate him.

Good on ya Fev, well done Ratts. Let's build a side that'll smash their weak-as-piss arses.

All those Carlton supporters who rang talk back radio sulking shame on you.

Your reaction is exactly what the Hawks hoped to achieve and your actions just confirmed it worked as they set out to achieve this ruthless, win at all cost mentality

If Brett Ratten expects this is how things are done then we got the wrong man for the job.

If the roles were reversed would have the John Elliot regime expect Carlton to hand Buddy his hundredth... no way. He would have been on the blower directly after the game rubbing it in

What happened to 'we are Carlton, flower the rest'

We expect no favors and i only hope we develop this ruthless mentality ourselves because it doesn't exist down at VISY park

this says it all really....
http://www.carltonfc.com.au/tabid/4311/ ... wsid=66687

With the game well in Hawthorn's keeping and needing just one more goal to make history on a night when Lance Franklin broke the ton, Fevola found himself surrounded by up to five opposition players late in the game as Alastair Clarkson dropped numbers behind the ball.

Asked if he would have done the same if the shoe was on the other foot Ratten replied: "I won't answer that."

"I suppose we could have maybe done that at the start [to Franklin], but I suppose that's the way he's seen it," a reticent Ratten replied when pressed on the issue.

"They were only 70 points up."

I am hoping Karma gets the present Hawthorn team. Well done Fev this year for all your efforts. Come back bigger and stronger next year - we luv ya!!!

If i were Ratts id shut the hell up. Keep what ever thoughts or anger in house and use it as payback the next time round. Sounds like a younger brother running to mum cause his brothers wont kick the footy to him

Great effort by Fev to get to 99 goals but if he'd removed the brain explosions from his game he would have kicked 125 this year.

No-one to blame but himself.

Oh...and Clarkson's a cauliflower but that's beside the point.

I think the most appropriate analogy is when a cricket player is on 99. Do you see the crowd yelling at the fielding captain, telling him to gather his 10 fieldsmen at fine leg so the bloke can tap a single to get the ton? Flower no. Cricket is a hard game, you have to earn that 100th run by working harder than for any other run.

As others have said in this thread, the anger is misdirected if it's at Clarkson. Roughead went back by his own accord and was moved by Clarkson back to the forward line. Look at the new AFL culture of "team rules" that are agreed upon before the game, if anything, because that's what the Hawthorn players were following, not the coach's direct instruction.

Talking of cricket, can we say that Fev has "done a Bradman"? 99.51 is pretty close to 99.94. :P

Sorry monty but that is a crap analogy - a test 100 comes along to a great test batsman once every 5 or 6 innings or to a superhuman test batsman like Bradman once every 3 innings.

A 100 goal season only comes to good full forward once or twice in a career and great full forwards maybe 4 or 5 times in a career.

Circling a batsman with fieldsman denying the easy single for 100 is one thing - a great batsman will go over the top no problem - surrounding a Full Forward with 4 or 5 defenders is something completely different and only something that a shit bloke and a gutless coward would do - and Alistair Clarkson is a shit bloke and a gutless coward.

And as for Fevola's brain explosions granted he probably would have kicked 100 if it wasnt for those.

But if the Umpires could get past their brain explosions at least once per game that I have seen this past season - Fevola have been sitting on 113 goals come round 22 and not 92.
