Basic inescapable facts of the matter are :

1. We have a pretty average list needing an injection of talent from at least a couple of top level footballers if we are to move forward.

2. The only way you can get that talent is to get high draft picks by finishing low on the ladder or by trading.

3. We havent got a lot of trading currency right now.

As far as I am concerned, as much as I dislike finishing in the bottom 4 (not wooden spoon) it is the only way that we are going to get the players we need.

That is it in a nutshell I reckon.

At this stage of the journey if we dont finish in the bottom 3 we are going to miss out on at least 1 of the best 6 players in the National Draft - and ouir first pick will be around 7 or 8.

Russell might turn into a superstar (and I hope he does) and there might be other superstars in Round 2 and Round 3 of the draft (and we may get them).

But hell - I want another shot at a player like Cooney, Walker, Deledio, Franklin, Tambling etc.

Just finishing in the bottom four so we are able to get our hands on two quality youngsters.

How would that get us two quality youngsters?

If you finish in the bottom four, 9/10 you'll get a priority pick which will occur in the first 6 picks of the draft.

Would have to win no more than 2 more games to do that. Do you really think we'll do that?

At the moment, it could very well happen.

No need to be that pessimistic PJ. Surely we can beat Collingwood, Essendon* & Hawthorn.

I think we could beat Collingwood.
Possibly Essendon*.
Could be a different story next time we play Hawthorn.
