What's you being a financial member got to do with anything? You pay a couple of hundred dollars a year. This is a guy's life and livelihood - a guy that has represented the club we love with distinction. Why don't we be patient and let the club make an informed decision and not rush into anything. I've never seen so many Carlton supporters eat their own. Yes Lance is getting close to the end, but as supporters, i think we can handle it with some more respect and class. Let's not forget, all we are are supporters and members. The players are the ones that do all the hard work and deserve our respect.

A guy thats made heaps more money than your average 28 year old and shuld be able to be smart enough to build a career outside of football.

Yup and he has two destroyed knees to show for it. The money these guys make for putting their bodies through the pain they go through isn't that much. How much would you accept to have a hip replacement before your 40th birthday? I know plenty of office workers that have much more money than these guys with very little in give up in return. A football career is short. They need to make their money while they can, because after football most are starting fresh. The money argument is so lame. If you could do what they are doing you would want to extend your career as long as possible also. Especially when you honestly believe you can still offer something to the club you love like I'm sure Lance does. I'm not saying he should and will stay on, but the low blows are unnecessary. It's so lame. These guys owe you and me nothing.

If LAnce didnt have his ten years of good earning he would have been on the life scrapheap...
Alot of people do their backs in jobs that pay 35 k a year...

So what???
Nah whats lame is the mentality that Lance cant look after himself in life so we have to hold his hand through the rest of it....

The real world isnt like that... Lance is about to experience the real world.

If he has bad knees from football he can contest it in court.. worplace injury...

This is not about that.. this is about a list of 38 ... a salary cap and an elite sporting competition...

Well it was the last time i had a think about it...... (Fancy saying Lance is worse off because of football)

If Lance hasnt saved anything from his mega contracts for a rainy day... .. he couldnt be that smart could he???

I'd prefer that the club have the courage to be honest with Lance and their members and quickly end this sorry saga which sees all but a few agree that Lances time has passed and we should all move on.
Lance is 27yo. He has a lifetime of opportunity in front of him. Footy aint everything!

Could he still play for the bullants next year? He could be a pretty handy mentor-type ala Teague this year.

Mentoring the kids on what?
How to keep your body in shape during the pre season and home and away season?

Well with Judd announcing his desire to move eastwards, the door has closed somewhat more for Lance.......

Other than where to find the nearest Maccas, I was hoping some his experience and much-vaunted 'footy smarts' would be useful for the kids to see first-hand.

He's got years and years of fighting with his brother if he wants, without the distraction of footy disturbing that

I think the years Whitnall just took the easy way of not being 100% will cost him now as he probably done more damage to his knees plus his speed, being unfit but i think he deserve a bit better.

I don't mean we should give him a contract, but we should stop calling him a bogan, fatso or whatever, he did play good footy for us when he was fit but took short cuts not staying fit and if it costs him it's his fault but he gave us great service at least from his first year-2000 and a couple years more.

It would be good if he knows he can't give 100% all the time he would call it a day but if he can't someone needs to tell him. If he still thinks he can play, someone might pick him up ,but they would demand the lowest pay rate and if he loves football he wouldn't care to much about the money just the chance to show he can still be serviceable.

Spot on Rambo. I don't think he will or should go on, but we don't have to lose all class and taunt our own players just because they're nearing the end of their careers. It's so pathetic. We love them while they're young and have potential and then bag them when they're getting on. People were doing the same with Kouta and Lappo. It's so tasteless.

And then we can give Chris the #8 and the captaincy!

Dude if we pick 3 and Kennedy or Bower, then chances are he'll be on our list next year you'd think.

"Oh Carlton, why don't you come to your senses...Now it seems to me, some fine things Have been laid upon your table But you only want the ones that you can't get..."

We'll end up with Judd, lose our pick and a player, and end up keeping Whitnall...whhhhhyyyyyy!!!!!! :(

before the all australian presentations started, on sen they said that whitnall was limping. they didn't say anything else about the matter but if he's just had surgery i'm guessing that's quite normal.

A decision on whether Lance Whitnall remains at Carlton will be made next week at the earliest.

The Blues may opt to give their captain as long as possible to recover from knee surgery before deciding whether he deserves to be awarded what is expected to be a one-year, incentive-based deal.

I hope all financial members aren't insulted by that.

What does the club owe Lance Whitnall by signing him up for another season??
Lance proved in all his games this season that he is not up to standard with the way the game is played. His first half against North Melbourne bordered on embarrassment. All we are doing by keeping Lance on the list is denying a young kid an opportunity. For FFS look at Port Adelaide they gave a kid at pick 79 a chance and he has blossomed. Instead we intend to hold on to a player who presents himself like a pig, can't kick, doesn't chase and literally can't move...go figure

It's what I was afraid of. Ratten. Unable to make the tough decision to get rid of him out of friendship.

If another coach came into the club fresh out of Carlton, this would not be a discussion at the moment, I reckon.

Reward for the 5 points he kicked against Melbourne. What a difference that game has made, thanks Lance.

....this is going to hurt....

Being the B&F winner of 2006, when he played some excellent footy... being a TrueBlue throughout... I actually think it's great that the club gives Lance some more time to show them what he's worth (granted: if he's still worth anything)...

For all the guys that have been talking about the lack of respect from Hamill and Campo leaving without thinking about the Club, I think it should go both ways... the Club paying some respect to Club greats as is (or at least has been) Lance...

Yes, we need to think about the future and at times make ruthless decisions, but to give the guy some extra time to prove whether he's capable of returning as a valuable member of the group (if only to help the young guns)... that's not so bad....
