macrae? we don't need another one-paced mid.

i'd love to get bailey tho, he'd be my number 1 priority if i was the blues. bailey wants geelong, and i'm sure the cats will move anything around to make that happen.

i heard something that's probs just rumour ... but smith is sponsored by cotton on, and so to the cats. so smith's 600k per year that the cats offer him is just a bit of a base salary and cotton on is picking up the rest - a bit like when judd came here under visy. so that would make the cats a lock, imo

not sure if true, but on the surface maybe it is.

I think one of our problems is that we don't know quite how to utilise the five best 22 mids we already have (Cripps, Walsh, Cerra, Hewett, Kennedy), and we certainly don't know how to play those five blokes *and* give opportunities to the younger mids on the list.

So, whilst I think Macrae is a good footballer, I don't reckon he's right for us.

i think so too. all of our mids excel at a few different things. but all of them are void of an extra gear, and run and bounce.

we need that element. and if we can introduce that for 2025, i like where we're at

Correct - the very last thing we need is another one paced accumulator clogging up the midfield.

Keep Owies.
He's the only half decent small forward Carlton has.

Delist/VFL level or trade Motlop, Durdin and Fantasia.

If you're delisting Martin, Matt Carroll, Sam Durdin, Marchbank and Cunningham surely that leaves at least one spot for Owies.

I’m trying to avoid hyperbole, but I honestly think that the drover’s dog could’ve kicked the goals that Owies has.

He gets his hands on it 8-9 times a game at 70-75% TOG. Yes, he’s the floor spacer & that makes the goals look even better, but I just don’t think that’s enough.

The market is set by the buyer. Schultz, Ginnivan, Billings, Brockman… a wide variety of transactions & he’s kicked more goals than all of them. This year’s buyers are a different bunch.

As far as the match day magnet goes, we’ve got more than we need.

Motlop - specialist
Durdin - specialist
Fantasia - specialist
Fogarty - mid, now fwd/mid
Moir - medium specialist
Williams - occasional medium specialist
Monahan - developing as a medium specialist

Weigh them up against the athletes on the half forward line:

Cincotta - tagger
E. Hollands - half forward
Cottrell - half forward/wing
Binns - wing/half forward

Or the extra tall…

I’ll take my chances with a lowball offer & let his management find a deal.

Are you suggesting we keep all of:

Motlop
Durdin
Fantasia

Rather that re-sign Owies who is our 3rd highest goal scorer, I think averages close to 2 goals per game?

I think you are way off if tha's the case.

My understanding is (and this is scuttlebutt media sources), the club is holding out a little to see what transpires leading up to the trade period, before offering a new contract to Owies.

Makes sense to me.

Also, not sure any there is any realistic reason why you would not offer a new contract to him over the 3 players I have mentioned above. IMO, he is far better than all of them and his results stand up to that, as well as his ability to remain on the park consistently as opposed to the others.

I’ve stated my piece over the last few pages. For all of the weights & measures, at the end of the day the other three are contracted. Owies is not.

I’d see them all off, such is my disdain for the position. It’s the 400m hurdles of footy; the middle seats in an eight. You can succeed just by showing up.

I just can’t see us finishing 30-odd goals short of this season’s total if there’s no Matt Owies in the team.

As ugly as it sounds, is Stringer a better option than Owies?

The thought of this makes me feel sick.

The fact that it's probably true makes me throw up

Everyone has their own standards - and I don’t ordinarily go looking for social gossip… but, I’d like to think that any bloke who cheats on their pregnant fiancé is going to fail the ‘no d-head’ test.

I would trade Cerra for the right deal. He is injury prone and hasn’t lived up to his lofty expectations.

Only for the right deal though. Ie for a better hand to nab a stronger midfielder or KPP. I think Lord can do the job that Cerra has done these last few years and end up better. Call me stupid, but i would rather a tough nut who puts his head over the ball, and he has clean hands. Than a big name.

Cerra has been playing overrated.

I would hold Cerra and trade Saad.
Saad is 30. Richmond loosing heaps of experience from it's backline. Could do with Saad who is starting to miss plenty of football through soft tissue injuries.

Don't disagree with the comment on Lord. Thought he should have retained his spot in the team last week ahead of Cerra.
