I'd like to think it's not a fait accompli.....but would expect them to have at least some idea as to one or two they're leaning towards...rightly or wrongly

I doubt Judd would be a part of that. He comes across as a straight shooter, maybe not at goal though

What are people's thoughts on Blake Caracella? He's one of the nine assistant coaches selected to do the AFL's Senior Coaching course. He's played at Essendon**, Brisbane and Collingwood during their successful years. Dual premiership player as well as having played in a GF loss. Assistant coach at Collingwood 2007-2009 and now Geelong since 2010. I would have thought very worthy of consideration.

Said last week he's ready to put his hand up.

Didnt add much else apart from that whilst some aspects of the job are not particularly enjoyable, he's big on the strategy and development side of things but is ready to embrace the full package.

That would be natural, to have some sort of leaning before receiving applications, the test will be how open the panel is to someone from left field emerging as a genuine and worthy candidate, as it seems Ross Lyon did at St Kilda.

That's not to say the next coach has to be someone not in the current list of expected coaches to make the next step, just a wish that the panel will give all applicants the same clean sheet prior to interview.

I'd like to think the AFL don't own us, but it won't be a coincidence if our next coach is one of the nine coaches in waiting.

I hope it is. New fresh blood with a hungry mindset and the strongest desire to want to be part of the next generation of gun Coaches. I don't have any love for past Coaches that didn't make it.

Let them build us up from the ground up over the next 3, 5, 7 years. it really is the only way.

I'm loving what Simpson is doing at the Eagles.

Our efforts under Barker make Malthouse look like an amateur. Clearly he wasn't but his gameplan just didn't work with our players. Really frustrating that whole experiment.

Kudos to Barker too for instilling hardness at the footy as a non-negotiable.

You might have viewed it as an experiment, but I'm pretty sure that our illustrious Board, viewed it quite differently.

Agree. We need a coach that is modern, innovative and hungry to win. Recycled coaches generally are not hungry enough especially when they have already tasted success (e.g. Pagan and Malthouse). That is why Worsfold would be one of the worst decisions possible. I want one of the nine that are doing the level 4 coaching accreditation.

I like the Fagan possibility - has been at hawthorn for 2 rebuilds and had absolutely every job possible. Coached at tassie and won a flag like Bolton. Footy manager at Hawthorn so good management skills which is paramount for coaching these days.

Don't see any super duper coaches on that list !!!!

Would prefer Sanderson wasn't on it.

Know Chris Fagan personally, great guy, smart, good people skills and very direct. Quality candidate. Not sure he is interested in head coaching role though.

If he's on the shortlist - then I'd guess he's applied for the job.

If that list can be believed.
