One thing for sure is that we have plenty of depth these days with Carazzo, Robinson, Grigg and Warnock (when fit) all worthy additions to the side above.
Fingers crossed Austin and Browne can step up this year as well.

Good team Cazz.

Mine's better

Humpers has his fingers crossed that a few individuals step up this year.
I believe everyone, including Wiggins, Fisher 7 Johnson to step up this year.

The aura around the club, from reports is such that we have stepped up...that means everyone.

We've reached the finals.
We've been exposed to finals.
We have the taste for and desire to go deeper into the finals.
We have recruited 3 first rounders (Hendo, McLean & Lucas).
All the recruits are thrilling.
The list has turned over a few of the borderline players and the calibre of the list has improved.
Intensity for this time of the year is fever pitch.
There's competition for spots.
No player came back in less than peak fitness.
Everyone is pushing each other along...through the pain barrier.
No carrying on and wining about the hot weather now that Fev's gone.

We are focussed...every one of them.
That's why everyone's best team for 2010 looks good.

Bring on 2010, and may your best 22 team win the 2010 flag. Good luck.

[quote="Carltn70"]Anderson in for one of Houlihan, Russell or Scotland.........take your pick.
quote]
None of them will give way to Ando based on last year's form.
Houlihan is better skilled and is far more versatile.
Scotland is a better gut runner and carries the footy better
Russell is a lot quicker, bigger bodied and is just now coming into his own.
IMO, Ando will have to improve a fair bit to survive the cut this year as he is one of a growing group of potential HBF types we have, only he doesn't seem to fit anywhere else ATM.
Even if he does improve, he will have to push one of the above plus Armfield and maybe Browne out of his way. Half this year's draft selections will also be looking for his spot within a year or so, if not before.
He is a fringe player like Wiggo but will struggle to get to Wiggo's game tally, even if it is only based on the fact we have a better list than when Wiggo played most his footy.
I like Ando (I love Wiggo) but I think the writing is on the wall for them both.

Ok, so my best 22 is set in my mind, with Browne or Lucas to come into the mix for Judd's spot while he's suspended. Search for it if you're curious.

Was a bit bored this morning, so decided to construct my best reserve 22. It's an interesting exercise for those who are unsure of what our list deficiencies are, and highlights who our key first-team players are in terms of the structure of the side.

Without further ado:

FB: Anderson White(r) Dare(r)
HB: Wiggins Austin Davies
CC: Johnson Browne Grigg
HF: Robinson O'hAilpin Lucas
FF: Tiller Fisher Kerr

RR: Warnock Hadley Ellard(r)

Int: Jacobs O'Keeffe Cachia(r) Tuohy(r)

Unlucky: Casboult(r), Donaldson(r)

Some notes:

- No true small defender
- Only one small forward
- Two full back prospects (checked it out: Dare & White are genuine talls)
- Perhaps lacking a genuine FF option, but two missed out
- Surprisingly good skill level on paper
- While not choc full of genuine talls, it's a very tall team

Give it 12 months, and that side would function without Fisher, Wiggins & Johnson. Still needs an injection of smaller types, while looking to develop tall options. Anderson is in real trouble if he can't man smaller types, because there's a litany of blokes who can play his medium defender role at least his level.

Plenty of players who could develop into inside mids as well.

Now for the hit list:

Crunch year
---------------------

Wiggins
Fisher
Anderson
Johnson
Ellard (r)
Grigg

Elevation prospects
---------------------

White
Dare
Cachia
Garlett

Trade bait
---------------------

Jacobs
Grigg

Sounds like it will be a four-man race for the second nominated rookie slot, unless Garlett completely falls off the wagon. He has a starting 22 slot stitched up at this point, so it seems unlikely.

Cachia is reportedly thriving in a professional environment; Dare needs polish, but can play medium/tall defender, has closing speed and a good head on his shoulders. White seems to be a more physically mature version of Dare.

Ellard has worked hard, but is too small and skinny to be a genuine inside mid proposition, which seems to be where he plays his best football. I would prefer him to be an injury elevation, as we have more pressing needs for depth at FB, medium defender and inside mid. If he morphed back into a small forward and could crack it at AFL level, look out.

I like that reserves side, but it raises a big concern...............We have to remove a few of those players so that the bullants can field some of their own players too..

No is when we need to have our own reseved side once again.

I just think they need to relax the 10/12 rule. There seems to be plenty of talent at VFL level, it's just giving the unaffiliated sides an advantage.

..nah, i reckon we ought to have our own proper ressies side.. ....drill them in proper afl tactics, vs chasing vfl wins week in, week out.. ..play players in their proper positions, or developing positions.. ..get them used to proper rotations etc etc.. ..more-so, play them out from visy park [least for home games], play them in proper blues jumpers with legit numbers.. ..get them used to playing with eachother all the time, vs some players dropping in and out, plus straight bullies players coming and going..

That's exactly what I'm talking about.....

How long before this becomes a reality though????

I understand that our finances have hindered us from doing this in the last few years, but surely our finances are in good order with well layed out plans that would allow for us to invest in our developement.....

Just like to say that I'd like to see Austin's game time increase this season and Waite to swing forward too.

Also in round two how about O'hAilpin to play on Fev? Has leg speed, height, strength and aggression to match. Would love to see this match up for a bit just for the fireworks I'd predict.

dane,
would not sack walker or betts, but i would sack houlihan.
yes we have fantastic depth now which is why betts, walker and houlihan should spend some time with the ants.
none of the boys will get sacked, just a little upset like all of us.
take away the emotions my best 22 would be something like this mate,

armfield jamison thornton
bower austin russell
simpson gibbs mclean
yarran waite walker
kreuzer henderson betts

warnock judd murphy

hampson carrazzo joseph lucas

but if hadley, o'hailpin, robinson, scotland, grigg and gartlett played i would not be fussed because they all can play good footy.

Still , wouldn't be disappointed to see your side line up .
