I am from the old days.

Now is not the time to be nervous.

Grand Final day is.

So, where are TCers all sitting?

Section Q here, will need an oxygen mask.

N29, row J - hopefully a bit of cover if the weather turns a bit feral.

2 rucks won despite Gawn probably playing the best game by a ruckman all year.
And with all due respect to TDK and Pitto they are not Gawn.
Pies had plenty of run but they were all shit.
Daicos Pendle Elliot Mcclerry all rubbish
You can throw in Degoey as well.
There talls kicked 4 of their 9 goals .Mcstay staying forward and clunking a couple and Cameron and if Miochek had of kicked straight could have been more.

Van Royen who was relief ruck didn't hit the scoreboard

i’ve only looked at the stats, missed the first half of the game but Gawn was massacred in the hit outs by Cox and break even with Pies 2nd ruck D. Cameron.

Q1 HO 10 v 3 v 6 respectively. (Gawn, Cox, Cameron)
Q2 HO 6 v 8 v 2
Q3 HO 10 v 8 v 6
Q4 HO 12 v 8 v 0 (subbed out)

Gawn finally found an edge in ruck as his team lifted.

of course Gawn’s immense value is from more than tap work at stoppages. reflected in his AF and metres gained scores.

Q1 AF 24 v 23 v 27 v 7 (cox, gawn, cameron, mcdonald)
Q2 AF 11 v 37 v 8 v 3
Q3 AF 16 v 30 v 22 v 6
Q4 AF 11 v 36 v 0 (subbed out) v 16

All AF Gawn 126 (2nd placed to oliver)
Cox 62 — 19th so middle ranked.
Cameron 57 — similar
McDonald 32 — 5th from the bottom.

Metres Gained:
Q1 MG 0 v 0 v 0 v 0 (cox, gawn, cameron, mcdonald)
Q2 MG 16 v 121 v -12 v 0
Q3 MG 0 v 0 v 0 v 0
Q4 MG 0 v 0 v 0 v 0

MG all game (this doesn’t add up at all, stats from offical AFL app)
Gawn 489m
Cox 56m
Cameron 45m (subbed out)
McDonald 46m

so it’s apples and oranges really but overall McDonald emerges as the weakest link in that group of four talls who ruck and can play up forward or drop back as a defensive marking/spoiling extra to slow opposition momentum.

Great work diesel

Gawn hates playing against Mumford, I mean Pitto

Not sure what all the worrying is about this morning.
We're in the finals, if we lose then we will be better for it next year.
I trust Voss and co know exactly what they are doing and the respective match ups.
It will be a very very tough game.
If Acres is good to go I reckon the sub will be Dow, he has speed and has been good in the contested game.
I'd like to see Motlop play but can't see who he'd replace, maybe Cunners?
If we have to play Hollands or Fisher it'll be to our detriment, both too light and Sydney will come out hard.
If Acres is still sore, I'd prefer if they gave him an injection and put him on, he'd still have more impact, even if he kicked 3 OOB.

next year isn't a given - to have our whole list healthy right now is a boom. our last 10 years without finals is proof how hard finals are to make. and to come into these finals with no real clear favourite to win it all.

this might be the best chance we ever have with cripps as captain to grab number 17,

(motlop needs to replace marchbank. we don't need another tall defender)

I get the fear, but our team is young, Voss is a really good coach and our football department is good also and we have stability at the club for the first time in decades.
Plus the fact we are in the finals at 5th, we will have more talent wanting to come to the club furthering our chances.
For me this is the start, not like last time with Band-aid solutions and sacking coaches at a whim.
Different times, different club.
We've finally caught up to modern football and its management.

The biggest thing for me tonight is Sydney were grand finalists last year and they know what to expect, they'll be prepared and tough.
And we are poor in our scoring from turnovers and they are really good at it but poor in their scoring from contests and we are number 1.
That's why I think Dow will be the sub.
Either way it should be a great game.

As for Marchbank, you can't replace the 7th defender on the bench with a forward.
And Doc needs to be on the wing.

Great post.

There’s another thing to factor and that’s the versatility of the players. Pity some haven’t played much this year to test their flexibility but I’m sure if Vossy sees something he would have talked to the player concerned and bounced ideas

I suspect there is a bit too much weight given to Champion Data stats re our scores from turnover.
Yes, we are a contested team but at our best we win the contest and keep the ball moving forward at great speed with overlap run. We might not start that with a direct turnover but we do stop other teams in their tracks, cause a stoppage and then brutalise it from there.

Voss knows what he’s doing. Just like McRae did last night too - despite all the complaints from Collingwood supporters before the game about Cox and dropping Noble.

It’s not like we don’t have any small forwards, we do.
It’s not like Marchbank can only play as a tall defender - he can run all day.
Heeney ‘beat’ Cripps last time when Cripps was clearly out of form or injured and even then, they actually broke even. Yes, he kept him to 19 possessions but Heeney played out of his skin and Crippa was at his lowest. I wish they put Heeney on Cripps tonight - Crippa will be best on ground.

After the last 3 months, and having the opportunity to test every player on the list and see them at their best, and given Voss’ finals credentials, I’m gonna back his choices over anyone on this site (and most commentators too).

We may not win but one thing I believe - there is no more formidable finals leadership combination than Voss and Cripps right now. I have confidence they will give us our best shot from team selection, to game plan, to execution on the field.

Champion data is only a small part of the picture.
If you think it’s the be all to end all when the things which don’t get measured aren’t considered. Then there’s coaches instructions. Game tactics. Conditions. So much to consider.

I really hope Marchbank reminds everyone why if all the players GWS lost to other teams Leon Cameron was spewing he lost Marchbank most.

He’s been marking well and kicking well but been a bit dumbly 2 weeks ago.

He’s a beauty if he can show his best version of himself.

So glad other forgotten/ written off “injury prone “ players Martin Cuningham and Gov have returned to our best 22 which really is only missing Williams.

It’s our time
The ducks are lined up

Baggers

A few Carlton fans here at Sydney airport.

Heaps of Swans as expected in a Final.

Confident and unconfident fans on both sides.

I haven’t been so calm since Kouta did his knee.
