He's just towing the line.

I don't think it's a good look for an assistant at a club with up and down form to say "hell yeah, I'd love to get the job and will be working on my presentation tonight!!"

You could be spot on there.

Just in general though - hope anyone who rules themselves out of the race does so because they don't want to be a senior coach in general for the time being, not because they don't want to coach Carlton. That would be quite deflating.

What would be deflating is if the board felt nervous or twitchy because people are ruling themselves out. There will be a candidate out there who wants the job and for the right reasons.

If anything, the board and executive have a job to do to prove they have the stability and more importantly the ABILITY to lead the club through this process of change with the new coach as an integral part of that change.

I guess no one wanted the Port job & Hinkley was the 'last man standing' - worked out ok.

Is the most relevant part of that article. In that the Hawks list that is admired today began in earnest with the 2004 AFL draft, so what input, if any did he have in that?

So Bomber Thompson and Matthew Nicks have said no to Carlton. Did they think they werte going to be asked?

On the same basis I, NTBlue, will categorically say no to marrying Halli Berry or being the next President of America.

In what role - Senior Coach or Development? We need quality appointments in both roles.

Carlton's dysfunction at senior levels (ie the board, Mathieson chirping fromgthe GC etc) are obviously well known.

It's influencing the approach player managers take to the club with their clients, put it that way. Some of the more high profile 'dramas' we have had with players re-signing recently were more to do with the player managers trying to jolt the club into action rather than players being unsure whether they wanted to stay (what that says about the players is open to interpretation i suppose).

I'd be shocked if managers for some of these coaches aren't warning them off Carlton, and if you are looking for a good summary of the environment, re-listen to Bomber's comments on the club last week on 360.

My point is, Bomber's view would be representative of a high proportion of folk in the industry.

No different from any other industry. There are companies in my industry that I wouldn't work for, mostly because of personalities or key people at the top that i wouldn't want to work for, why should footy be any different. Also, why do we assume that anybody we are interested in would drop everything and uproot their family/kids etc just for the honour. How many on here would drag their kids out of school and relocate interstate for a few extra $. (that said, every man probably has their price). Other side of the coin is that somebody hungry and prepared to take on a challenge might get an opportunity otherwise lost.

Aker rating himself quite highly on AFL site. Claims he is ready to go.

An outspoken douchebag who has made as many valid points as he has a fool of himself.

If nothing else, hearing what he has to say would provide an amazing perspective.

A discussion on sen this afternoon about our next coach...

They recommend we go the young untried coach path.

AFL history apparently says we'll sakc him before our next premiership :sly:

If we sakc him just before our next premiership, he may get to break Malthouse's record.

I was wondering about Simon Lloyd. He's the one out of the nine that are doing the Level 4 coaching accreditation that we know little about. I hope he is in the frame near the end. I like the fact that he has done a lot of work with younger players because hopefully we will be drafting a lot of them.

If Darren Crocker does well with North over the next 4 weeks he could well come into contention. I'd certainly be interviewing him at least.
