Two extra games will solve our membership problems will they??
Like everyones holding off buying a membership till we play 2 extra games at the G...???
I doubt with the amount of MCC members i know that it will be the case.
Why do you read something and see something completely different. You're worse than Caro!
And what do Carlton supporting MCC members have to do with this?
Listen - I THINK the one thing we CAN agree on is that the demise of suburban AFL grounds and the fact that Etihad only holds 50,000 people means the MCG probably isn't the be-all-and-end-all option post-2025.
What the club needs to do is appoint some sort of steering committee to figure out what the best option is for the club. In my opinion - and perhaps not yours - it's a reversal of home games at Etihad and the MCG to 7-4. Look at Hawthorn and of their 11 home games they play 7 at the MCG, 3 in Tassie and just 1 at Etihad.
Our best option might be to get that 7-4 split going for a decade at the 'G and then negotiate a 'best deal possible' with the new stadium (depending where it is). They'll want tenants and that's likely to involve Essendon* and Carlton as the biggest clubs. I don't really care what the capacity of a new Stadium would be, providing it's on or around the 70,000 and it's within close proximity to the CBD (that doesn't leave a lot of options). The MCC capacity at the MCG is around 23,000, so 70,000 seats is more than enough when you consider you're not putting in a specified area for MCC members.
E-gate Stadium plans were originally drawn up for a boutique AFL stadium. Obviously these plans have been shelved.

HOWEVER... (cue music) the State Government has determined to further progress a proposal to develop the E-Gate site for urban development...OR what equates to 12,000 residents and 200,000 square metres of commercial and associated retail space. So what's the AFL to do? Moorabin? Casey Fields? Oh dear...maybe they just need to build it over the railways off Flinders St.
