How do we know that? What has changed? Has it been driven by him?
I don't know what has happened but a couple of points.
1. We haven't beaten much or have beaten teams I would expect we would beat.
2. We have been able to play the brand of football that we know suits us.
3. Kids have been played against belief
4. Ratten looks to have realised his fate and as such has released the "brakes" on the players. They are playing with freedom and flare.
I am always amazed by comments of a coach is coaching better or worse based on a few weeks of football.
How do you know, he's been given a fate? Let alone accepted one?! Sounds like more typical Ratten witch hunting going on here.
Not one person in football gave us a chance with the team we trotted out against the dogs, Richmond & Essendon*. Every expert & analysts, said we'd get drilled by 5-7 goals. So while
you thought we should win those games, you were on an island there.
Richmond at no stage let us down hill ski, which is a popular myth as to the only way we win games among the ratten bashers here.

Unless you are there how do we know?
Obviously I'm not there. Interviews with the players, reading media which I somewhat trust fills in some more of the picture. Most importantly, RIchardson noted that since the Port game Ratten has taken a hard line approach to the line coachs and players that mediocrity will not be tolerated. imo, this is the single most change in the way we approach the games. Intensity is up, players are playing for ratten ... all key indicators for a pro ratten finishing his contract argument.
Even in the game we lost Vs the Swans, we weren't blown off the park, we kept the top side on the ladder honest for most of the day, and even mateched them in some critical stats. imo, he we had Waite & walker playing, our inside 50 efficiency would have no doubt improved and we might have won.

Whether Ratten is there next year, I just hope his performance is judged on results and improvements in a number of areas over the past 5 years not 5 weeks.
I completely agree. I also want -- but don't feel like it will be possible with our current board -- that if it's decided ratten will be marched, that we go through a process to find his successor. Not just a handshake deal with malthouse.
I still can't divert away from the fact that if Eddie Maguire was championing MM for the job at the club he hates the most, it's because he knows & believes something we don't. ie malthouse is washed up?!!
