Play players to their strengths and recruit for what we need whether through the draft or smart trading as last year.

Agree with that. Gets a lot of touches when he plays and has no impact. Pretty sure most of the clubs will be aware of this. He is not useless but is vastly overrated.

Won the Rising Star on the back of stat watchers in a weak year.

Players always look better when playing with good sides. And worse when playing with crap sides. Taylor's got some real weapons. However, I do agree with you about the Rising Star. No way he should have won that year ahead of Bontempelli. We can blame Dwayne (and his spruiking) for that. It's voted on by media figures. Most of whom don't actually watch all that many games. And who tend to lack the ability to make independent judgments, and follow each others' opinions like sheep.

It was the same when Leon Davis made all-Australian. And Krakouer got mark of the year. Basically they were media campaigns orchestrated by Brian Taylor (who just so happens to have a strong connection with Collingwood and Richmond).

Unfortunately to win (media decided) AFL awards, you need to have strong club affiliations in the media.

Andy Mc should be sakced for contracting Jamo, Walker and Jones to 2017. Ridiculous. Could cost a young fringe player a spot on the list

At least one and maybe two of those will retire. One will go straight into coaching. But Jones - what a competitive beast.

Dick, Smith, Tutt and Wood will certainly or almost certainly be gone, yep. Jamison I think will retire; not too sure about Walker. The others are question marks. Buckley I would look at trading or keep for one more year. Graham likewise. One of Jones or Foster will be delisted. Viojo-Rainbow is another question mark, Armfield too. I would trade Everitt as well.
I would go with these names not being at Carlton in 2017:
Wood (rookie)
Buckley (trade)
Jamison (retire)
Dick
Smith
Foster
Tutt
Viojo-Rainbow
Everitt (trade)
Maybe another 1 or 2 more.

What is it with the desire to get rid of Armfield? Gets injured a fair bit, but they are accidents not his body failing eg soft tissue injuries. But when fit he never seems to let us down, can play multiple roles and has pace. His disposal is better than many admit and he can hit the scoreboard regularly. I get it that he is towards the end of his career, but really how do people not value him?

Ian I think it's more a case of him being on the fringes of the list from a management point of view for the rest of his career.

He's great to have until a kid can do what he does, but he's not indispensible, because he doesn't win a lot of the footy.

Missed this post as it was misquoted. He nearly got axed last year (he was our final player signed up). Then you must also bear in mind we may have 3-4 players from GWS to bring in to our list, Byrne promotion to the seniors and possibly a delisted player from elsewhere. Multiple roles? That's a slight overstatement; he doesn't get too many midfield minutes despite our problems with depth there. So his name must be mentioned. One year he will get at best. Since when has he ever been a certainty to be retained?

I'm pretty sure Dick, Smith went under a couple of months ago.

I am not sure why we would keep Graham. He has been given a number of opportunities and has shown he is simply too slow and therefoe a liability when we don't have the ball and he doesn't have sufficient impact when we do have the ball. Seen enough to know his strengths and weaknesses and that he won't help us improve as a team. Definitely delist IMO.

After watching the next big thing GWS who we will be competing against over the next 10 years we have a need for speed and Army has this plus he's a much better footballer nowadays I can't see us dropping him.

We need midfielders with speed plus class. 4-5 of them. Just look at what we are up

Then we need a couple ruck men to develop. IF we can get a ready made ruckman on the brink of making it ala Jacobs when at Carlton that will be good too, because when Kreuzer finishes his contract in 2017 we only have Philips and he may not be much better. against GWS. Rucks who are dangerous forward.

I think we will be OK in backline with Weitering, Plowman, Glass-Mac.
I think we will be OK in forward line with McKay, Casboult, SOJ.
Jaksch should make it IMO. He has the weapons and can play either end
We maybe looking at Marchbank or Tomlison to add height and mobility.

We need midfielders to compete against GWS and a couple of them ready made.

Once Thomas contract ends we have a great offer on the table for the next Judd to support Cripps and C.Curnow in the middle.

That's a fair start.

Add Graham, Kreuzer (post 2017 contract), Foster.

I don't think Sumner Lamb Wright Kerridge White Gorringe are long term prospects especially against GWS over the next 5-10 years.

Wright's on a one year contract, correct? He's played well this year; I think he'll get a 1-2 year deal. Sumner's problem is more his body than ability, I still have hopes for him. The rest are on 2-years or are not in the queue to be delisted yet imo.
