yep, of all the guys we lost, Jeff was easily the most "keep-able" ... and right now his burst and creativity in the forward line is really missed.

Are we being somewhat (or very) revisionist here? Jeffy and Robbo left because the others players didn't want them around any more. At least that was the accepted version of events at the time last year, with many an approving head being nodded at the maturity this call displayed by the playing group.

There's plenty to pin on Mick without making stuff up.

He's just so likeable too. I can't help but cheer him when I watch melbourne games. That goal he kicked on the weekend from the boundary.....I miss him.

He has too many of my good footy memories attached to him.

One presser from Barker and there's already a better vibe around us. Mick drained any enthusiasm for members and supporters.

So true.

Well I dont know if I believe the rumours around players leaving anymore.
Everyone said Laids was done for good too.
I trust my own instincts more these days.
Notice MM only mentioned Eddie..not
the others removed.
Waite:
I know we have poster who knew the inside story on his back so that was fine.
The others?
Ww dont really know do we but ww do know MM loved soldier drones who did what he wanted kicked and marked ling and hugged the boundary.
Jiffy was zippy and down the gutses.
I miss him and Eddie so much.

Who doesn't, bg.

I think some are now starting to enter the realm of just making stuff up because it makes us feel better about things and there's a handy scapegoat.

Fair enough if that floats your boat I guess.

Yeah, whatever their off-field faults, Eddie and Jeff gave us a lot on field, and I miss them too.

They're exciting and right now a few flashes of brilliance on field would make us smile every now and then.

Cmon, snap out of it people.

The reality was that Jeff was massively underperforming and lazy at the end, particularly after Eddie left.

Whether that was because he missed Eddie and was too sad to peform,

or whether it was because he was much better at playing the 2nd amigo role,

or whether it was because his partner and he were fighting,

or whether he hated playing for Mick.

whatever.

His head was not in the game, and he wanted a fresh start.
You can't force someone to suck it up and turn their form around.
Letting him go was best for the club, and best for Jeff.
Sometimes people need a change.

Compare Jeff's response to Yazz's - sure, Yazz had his bad moments with Mick, but his attitude was much more positive and professional, his effort and behaviour was much better than Jeff's. Yazz was known to have a strong relationship with Eddie, but after Eddie left he just got on with it. Yazz is the type of guy I want at Carlton over people like Jeff and Robbo.

I will be much more pissed off if we lose Yazz.
Good luck to Jeff, but don't lose too much sleep over him.

Well that's a bit sweeping!

We really don't know for sure why Jiffy and Eddie left.
We think maybe Eddie would have stayed if we'd offered him more, but we don't know.
Maybe some players didn't want Jiffy, but maybe that's a load of cr@p.
Who knows!
We know both MM & the board will say many things to cover their own ar$es.

this times one hundred thousand million.

man, he sucked the life out of the place. half the members never embraced him thanks to his collingwood roots, and over time he wore out the other half with his pig-headedness and general crap demeanour.

A positive media presence wont outshine continual 70 pt+ uncompetitive beltings, similarly a grumpy old fart that keeps winning would be tolerable and potentially endearing in a 'stick it up the press' kind of way!

Agree we don't need to be picking fights with the press in our parlous state but I also dont think a positive media presence will paper over the cracks. The cracks are 'San Andreas' wide and have been exposed already, there isnt enough wallpaper in town to hide them.

we don't really know for sure, but despite numerous posts and references in articles on both players (Eddie for his dad's health, Jeffy lost trust of the playing group), we'll just blame the people we don't like anyway. Because we don't like them. Is that how it works?

Like I said, fair enough if that keeps you happy.

If you want to get angry about Jeffy leaving, I'd suggest this should be your ranking of annoyance/disgust;

1) Jeffy

2) Lots and lots of daylight

3) Senior Players

4) List Management Committee

His name is Stuart.

He won a flag with Port.

He ate all the pies.

He won a flag with the Hawks.

He ate all the pies.

He got a job with the Swans.

He wanted a job at Melbourne.

But the Swans wouldn't let him go.

He married a newsreader.

No, the reality is Eddie would have stayed had we matched Adelaides offer. That's not based on unsubstantiated rumour like most of your post, that's a fact.
It's Carlton that made the decision to let him go. If you think the senior coach didn't have a significant say in that decision, you're having an Uncle Doug.

Were Carlton in a position to match the offer though?

If we had the capacity to pay Dale Thomas, I'd suggest yes.
It just came down to priority.

I'm not really..
I miss him and eddie..
feels like I'm being roped in, cos I reckon MM ikely had a hand in it.
:-)
iirc..we were told Jiffy simply had to go home to err...adelaide was it?
a lot of mis information,
and respectfully punter, we don't actually know do we?

why are we arguing this anyway?
I'm out.
cheers.

That's fair enough.
For the record I agreed with the club's decision to not match Adelaide's offer, it's a shame they chose to piss the cap space up against the wall by picking up a broken down Thomas.
